Title: Push and take the pot? Post by: Newmanseye on November 07, 2006, 09:35:28 AM When you have an unopened pot with 4 limpers and the blinds left to act, you see you have Ks Ahrt or Aspades Qc, is it better to push and take the chips on offer or would you prefere to play a flop?
I was always a fan of taking the chips there an then with a push, but i changed that within the last 6 montsh to playing flops, ;goodvevil; So whats the better play in a tourney?, particularly in the early stages. I was always a fan of taking the chips there an then with a push, but i changed that within the last 6 montsh to playing flops, ;goodvevil; So whats the better play in a tourney?, particularly in the early stages. in the early stages i limp..because I want to trap people. I have started seeing a bigger nr of flops in the early stages. simply because you can..and hitting 2 pair when holding 36 sooted always does very nicely as the one with the Ace will pay you off. The problem you find yourself with when holding AK, AQ etc is that when you limp...I also limp with 36...and if the flop comes A 3 6. I own you...and it will be biblical..something like "and thou shalt payeth the bold one". When there are 6 people in the pot in the early stages there's someone like me in there..not all of them have a hand they will call a raise with. (or atleast ussually don't have or should call a raise with). Get them out in the early stages. In the middle/late stages of a tourney you can limp..but don't feck about in the early ones as it shall be costly. PS..I am talking freeze out tourneys... Title: Re: Push and take the pot? Post by: The_Diamond on November 07, 2006, 07:04:44 PM Whether or not pushing is right is totally dependent on your stack. Obviously you'd be craszy to stick the lot in with a 50K stack and the blinds 100-200 if the limpers have decent stacks also.
If you had say 20BBs and 4 players limp in pushing from the BB wouldn't be an overbet at all because you'd be increasing your stack by 25% every time you take it down preflop, the only problem with straight shoving when you're deeper than 15BBs is you make it look exactly like AK/AQ and can get looked up by a middle pair. Post by: boldie on November 08, 2006, 09:16:58 AM Good example of pissing about with this was me yesterday in the 50$ freezeout on Hollywood. 334 players, we're down to the final 13 I'm 2nd in chips (7 at my table) and I find AQ on the SB. 1 Limper, one person min raises (which he has done consistenly with any 2 cards) and the BB (CL at the time..who will call this one as well as he always has).
I decide to flat call and the flop comes Q, 7, 3. I check, BB checks...matey boy doesn't raise (As i would have expected him to...was waiting for the raise from him so I could stick him all in..he's been folding to that a lot) turn comes..8. I bet for 10k (15k pot) BB calls, mateboy folds. I push for the last 25k on the river (another rag) and BB calls with 2 pair and knocks me out. I played it like a donk..If I'd raised preflop I would have taken the pot there and then...now I'm out in 13th for a few hundred (which admittedly is still a profit..but not a few grand for a top finish which I should have had) |
