Title: Default Gateway? Post by: Poppet7 on November 08, 2006, 03:19:05 PM I'm having problems with my computer, its connects to the internet but won't let me onto any websites or msn messenger, when I troubleshoot it says its the default gateway and then I click repair and nothing happens so everytime I want to go on the internet now I have to do a system restore and then it's fine for a day or so then I get the same problem...
Anyone have any ideas on how to sort this out? Title: Re: Default Gateway? Post by: RED-DOG on November 08, 2006, 03:30:09 PM Oil the hinges?

Title: Re: Default Gateway? Post by: Suited_Jock on November 08, 2006, 03:51:16 PM How do you know you are connected to the internet do poker sites work?
Is it just websites and MSN messenger that dont work? Title: Re: Default Gateway? Post by: Poppet7 on November 08, 2006, 03:53:29 PM Well it says I'm connected and shows me the speed and time I've been connected... tbh I didn't try poker sites.
MSN Messenger says the thing about Default Gateway Websites just say cannot connect to server Title: Re: Default Gateway? Post by: Suited_Jock on November 08, 2006, 04:05:15 PM Could be like 100 different things...
Do this while connected to the internet. First thing is to try and get a new IP address. Goto the start menu then to run and type cmd then hit ok. A new window pops up in this type ipconfig/release then hit Enter A message should say adapter succesfully released ... After this type in ipconfig/renew this may take a couple of mins. ---------------- Also check that Internet Explorer is set to automatically detect settings. Goto Tools->Internet Options-> Connections Tab -> Lan Settings and ensure the "Automatically detect settings" box is ticked ... ------------------------------- When you say a system restore makes it work How far back do you go? Also do you remember installing any software after that date prior to this problem happening? Title: Re: Default Gateway? Title: Re: Default Gateway? Post by: Poppet7 on November 08, 2006, 05:05:44 PM It was working fine (this connection has only been set up for a week or so) but one day I switched on the computer and it didn't work. I will try all the things I've been advised to do when I get back later on. Thanks for the help guys.

Programs - Accessories - System Tools Or if you goto your control panel - internet connections. and selct repair it should reset and find your default gateway.. |
