Title: Goodbye Dessie Post by: BrumBilly on November 13, 2006, 07:05:01 PM Just heard that the great Desert Orchid has died. A wonderful horse in so many ways. Gave me some great memories back in the day when I used to do my b****cks on the gee gees as was the case in 88 when Dessie pipped the mudlark I'd backed (Yahoo) on the way to Gold Cup glory.

The way he jumped the fences, his bold front running displays, his tremendous courage and fight & how the public loved him said it all. 4 King Georges, a Gold Cup, Whitbread & the Irish National - an outstanding record. Thanks for the memories Dessie, a true great, rest in peace.

Boxing Day at Kempton watching him decimate the field A true great, and a rare iconic horse. Title: Re: Goodbye Dessie Post by: BrumBilly on November 13, 2006, 11:15:28 PM I stand corrected on the year. Remember the race vividly, took a pocket radio into work while on YTS so I could listen to the race while filing A1 drawings away. Couldn't wait to get home and watch the highlights on the telly despite having lost (should have been on each-way). Awesome race and a memorable comentary as Dessie dug deep to snatch victory.
