Im just about to move into a new apartment which doesnt have internet access, is it possible to simply purchase a wireless router and connect to the internet,as I have wireless enable laptop? excuse my innocence..thnx in advance..

You need to have Internet access before you can extend it using a wireless network. 

Think of it in the same way as having cordless phones in the house.  You need to have a telephone line and signal coming into the house first, before you can use the phones.

The only way round that is if your apartment is in a free wi-fi zone.  But that's not going to be a solid long-term solution, especially for playing poker online (if that's your intention).

You'll need to get Broadband from anyone of the established providers such as BT, AOL etc and then pretty well yes ... plug the router into your line and follow instructions to set up

There is a way to get wireless internet without having a phone line etc.

I am pretty sure there will be other wireless users in apartments close. If you were that way inclinded you could just detect them with your wireless lappy and connect to an unprotected one untill u get internet.
