Title: Push or Fold?
Post by: GlasgowBandit on November 18, 2006, 11:53:16 PM
My  pre flop raise is definately not the best play, however I was intent on playing my aces strongly and hoping to take down the pot there and then.  The player to my right pulsar seemed to be raising every hand so there wasn't much action from me, I think that ifI raise I keep him in he can't seem to pass pre flop.

Girlsbottom, I don't have any info on this guy although in the 20 or so hands i have played he calls and folds to a raise.

When he calls the initial raise I think he may have woken up with a decent hand.

I like the flop, it doesn't seem to be drawing to a great deal apart from the flush and I got the nut draw.

When I bet it and he pushes, I'm stuck in a quandry.  My thought process changes and I start thining along the lines of he's hit a set or his holding was something like T J 7 8.

Tick tock the timer goes do i push my lot in or fold and wait for another opportunity?

Fold. He will have 78 or a flopped set here 95% of the time. It is unquestionably -EV to continue with your hand.

difficult one but its possible that hes pushing with bottom set, so in theory better to fold
aces in omaha not great, even if you're sat with the nut flush draw

This is a close one.

You're only calling 27$ ( your remaining stack) so you only need to be about 31% here to make this profitable with the overlay from the pot.

Against the straight with no flush draw, you're about 36%, if he has a flush draw as well you drop to 28 or 25% if he has the str8 flush draw.

Against a set? roughly 32%, with fd 26%.

As Nicky says these will be the hands you run into most often and you are rarely good to call and when you are, it's very marginal....

....If the player is very very loose/ very aggressive, then he will have a mix of other hands in here, such as top two, top pair and gutshot, overpair and flush draw and some others.

If you have suspicions that these hands are also in his likely range then you can profitably call here as you have many of these in bad shape.

I called and the mug had 2 pair.

He called my raise with 9 5 J K I know your always going to get callers at this level but you at least expect them to have a half decent hand.

Needless to say I never hit the flush.

I really considered folding but I was convinced i was in front.  Ooops!
