Title: LaDainian Tomlinson
Post by: The Baron on November 20, 2006, 04:06:03 AM
Averaging over 3 touchdowns in his last 4 consecutive games, the quickest player in NFL history to reach 100 touchdowns, tonight's stats 85 yards rushing 75 yards receiving and 3 touchdowns.

Potentially the best running back ever in the NFL?

Make that 4 touchdowns. 102 total.

Barry Sanders was by far the best running back IMO. Just had the best moves ever.
If he had been in a decent team, then im sure his stats would have been that much better.

I was able to watch Sanders live at the old Pontiac Silverdome, he was deceptively fast, seemed to have amazing quickness and power for his height.

I was even luckier to see to see Marcus Allen play in 1990 when the raiders beat the broncos. Allen was near the end of his career but still had a fantastic turn of speed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcus_Allen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcus_Allen)).

Tomlinson has what Sanders/Allen etc did not have, the ability to receive just as well as he runs. He can even play QB at a pinch too.

Possibly the best all purpose back in the NFL ever.

As a pure runner, Jim Brown, Walter Payton, Sanders then Alllen and Emmit Smith are who is aiming to be up there with by the time he retires.

Exactly - he can throw the ball too.

Being able to throw a ball well does not make you a great running back IMO.
Its all about strength, speed and dexterity and being extremely tough. Last year it was Shawn Alexander, 2 years ago, everyone was raving about Priest Holmes being the best.  before that it was Marshall Faulk.  You can only judge at the end of their career how well they have done.

Over the last 5 seasons no-one has scored more touchdowns than Tomlinson. So he's no one season wonder.

Im not disputing that he's at the very top of the current bunch of RB's.  I just dont put him (at the moment) in the same category as Sanders, Payton, Brown etc.
