A moustachioed man sitting next to me says "Good luck, speak later" and disappears off into the throng. Time for a quick trip to the gents before the first hand, and just as I am entering the gents a young thin beagle bounds up to me, tongue lolling in excitement "Tighty Tighty, RED DOG has just gone into the Ladies!" I am a little non-plussed but sure enough friend of Beagle confirms what I have just been told. "What, on purpose?" I ask, slightly unneccesarily, checking the signs on each of the two doors "No idea" says Beagle, giggling Well then, the camera phone just has to come out. At that point the Beagle suggests to me that it is perhaps not the best idea in the world to stand outside a Ladies toilet with my camera phone pointing at the door. People have been banned from Grosvenors for less. So we silently wait. RED DOG is making us wait, the room is emptying towards the poker tables and still he has not emerged. Then the door swings open, the offending gentleman is snapped and we let him know of his faux pas. "Bloody hell" he says "I looked at the sign to make sure before I went in too" Possibly the only man in the universe to get away with this, at least he had the good grace to look sheepish for some time afterwards... Thinking back, I did become a bit suspicious when I noticed that the hand basins were particularly clean, but I was lulled onto a false sense of security when someone in the cubicle behind me let rip two enormous farts. One was a prolonged purr, like a flock of sparrows taking off, the other was more of a bang, reminiscent of someone discharging a shotgun at close quarters.

It's not so embarrassing when you're not aware of your mistake til afterwards. On an occasion in Prague a few years back the toilets had words instead of boy/girl pics. Down in some basement Jazz club, I couldn't even guess which door to take. I chose one, sat down for my business (in the only cubicle, which had no lock) and tried to hurry as best I could. About 30 seconds in, the main door opens followed by the cubicle door. ;booboo; 2 gorgeous Czech ladies start to piss themselves (not literally because I was on the only lady loo) and I have to escape the club pretty soon afterwards.
