Title: Goals for December
Post by: moritzey on November 23, 2006, 12:18:46 AM
As most people seem to have achieved their goals for November on the last thread, I figured we might as well start up a new one for December. So here we go:

My goals for December:

1) Play 10,000 hands on stars limit hold'em
2) Average > 2BB/100 doing that
3) Get a bankroll big enough to comfortably move up one limit by January

Goals for December

1. Maintain Silver on Stars - this should be a bit easier as I now get 1.5 points per old point so only 1000 needed.
2. Try and win some money.  My November attempt has left me down a bit but I now have found places to read about NLHE cash games so I hope to improve.
3. Learn PokerTracker to analyse my NLHE cash game
4. Use my winnings to play a better level of mtt rather than my crapshoot levels and cash in some more mtt's.
5. Win some more W$.  Did pretty good in November on this, I'm over halfway to the level of a cheap WSOP buy in!  I'm just collecting them at the moment.   This is only a small goal, if it doesn't happen, it doesn't matter.

That's it.

Its only your FPP's (the points you use to buy stuff) that are accelerated.  VPP's still accrue at the same rate so it will take the same amount of effort as before, I'm afraid.

Doh, I thought I was in for an easy ride next month!

Oh well, I'll still give it a go.  Perhaps if I learn how to play better, I can maybe 2 or 3 table a bit more often and it will make things a bit easier.

This made me laugh, Moritzey the last time I spoke to you you told me you were giving poker a rest to focus on your study, nice to see you're sticking to it ;)

My goals are not poker related:

1. Get a Job (which I'm in the process of)
2. Get a Flat (putting deposit down at the weekend if the flat I like is still available)
3. Have a Happy Xmas with Leon and my family.
4. Sort out which course I am going to study in 2007 - I need to decide whether or not to be a primary school teacher, a nurse, a midwife or a prison officer... wide variety there, I just have to decide which I would prefer.

1; Try to motivate myself to give live poker a shot again.

2; start playing on stars and get a decent MTT win under my belt on there.

3; Win a WPT package.

4; Just generally have a fun month.

Can i ask why people set a goal of playing a certain number of hands?

If you can reach your $1k goal by only playing 100 hands then surely you can find other things to do instead of playing the other 14900?

At the end of the year, it's likely the more hands you play, the more profit you make.

Setting a target reduces the temptation to quit after logging a small win for the day.

It also helps you emotionally detach yourself from short term results, and any deteriation in your performance that may result.

You sit down, aim to play x hands, you win every time.

Aim to win £200, (or as much as possible) you may run into problems. Playing beyond the point which is optimal is easier. Your results are more likely to affect how long you play. I'd prefer to decide that at a sessions start, how long I play is independant of how many flushes I'm hitting,.

i only ask because i've never set myself any goals with "figures" in.

My aim is to make profit but i wont try to limit how much. I will play when i feel like playing and will continue until i feel i am not playing my "a-game", who knows that may be 1 tourney of 3 hands or 4 tourneys of 1000's of hands. I wont set myself a target of making $xxx profit but i will tell myself that once my bankroll hits $xxx then i can move onto the next level of tourneys then when my bankroll increases to $xxx i move up another level.

It may take me a month, it may take me 10 years but i'll get there in the end :)

I imagine it would be less applicable to the player of MTTs.

You probably already have a clear idea of what comps you're going to enter on any given eve. The cards are always going to choose when they end.

The cash game manny has to choose when to sit and when to quit.

Well, I have holidays in three weeks and right now lots of essays to write. Figured that taking short breaks with 40 minutes of poker in between a long essay writing day helps keep me focused for the rest of the time ...

Sure - playing 15,000 hands is important whether I win or lose. I have an expectation per hand - if I make $1000 in 200 hands then amazing, but it doesnt affect my expectation for the rest of the hands.

Really its a "play this much" goal, not a "win this much" - focusing on playing well is more important than focusing on your winning amount ( or losing amount ).

Yeah, good plan :)

Good luck with the rest of the essay writing!

My diary is packed out for December so don't see much poker happening for me.

My main aim in December is to remember what happens to me when i get drunk, before I get drunk, or what happens to me when I get drunk will happen.

November was my first month as a full time poker player, so it's been a matter of adjusting my body clock from getting up at 6am to going to bed at that time - well not quite but almost.

I am finding it difficult to discipline myself to playing whether I feel like it or not and getting ahead early in a session makes it more difficult.  Probably looks like I'll play about 15k hands - I really need to be playing 30k.

My main goal is to get a bit of a routine in place - something like 30k cash hands, 100 HU stts and a few higher value mtts.

I also need to fit in some live poker, so might go to Paris.
