Title: APAT NEWCASTLE Post by: KingPoker on November 28, 2006, 12:19:40 AM hi everyone.
Probably wont interest a lot of people but was wondering if there are any blondes heading up to newcy for the next APAT live tourney on the weekend. Me and the missus are as it just happens to be our 2 year anniversary and fair do's to her-she is still letting me come up to play in the tourney. But she is doing ok -the hotel has cost me a fortune! Hope it is as much fun as the last one in brum. Superbly organised by Mel, Tony and Des. But anyway back to the original query of are there any ppl heading up? Ks Gareth aka KingPoker Ks Title: Re: APAT NEWCASTLE Post by: TightEnd on November 28, 2006, 12:22:52 AM Superbly organised by Mel, Tony and Des. cough. There was someone else there organising the teas and coffees! ::) about 30 blondes will be there at the weekend out of the 210 strong field Title: Re: APAT NEWCASTLE Post by: Ironside on November 28, 2006, 12:30:59 AM i will not be traveling up to newcastle as i cant afford to travel round the globe bu i will be DOWN there

I may do, but there are competing attractions.... yeah i fancy playing it enjoying a few bacardi breezers and relaxing, really don't fancy the cattle market of the toon Title: Re: APAT NEWCASTLE Post by: turny on November 28, 2006, 12:44:42 PM who you guys fancy to take it down?
unfortunatly i wont b there so u all got a chance lol. rookie will be there though and is hitting form at the right time online and locally offline so am hoping with a little bit of good fortune (unlike broadway lol) he can do well. ITB are double represented with tomtom who is a very steady play who i expect to go deep into the tourni. then again they going up friday and going out into town so both probably be in no fit state at all to play ! rotflmfao Title: Re: APAT NEWCASTLE Post by: Pilf on November 28, 2006, 01:27:02 PM I shall be there Gareth,
Like you it's my 2 year anniversary this week (not married mind) however Hannah wont be accompanying me to Newcastle. Going with a mate instead as he'll appreciate the lap dancers more than she will. rookie will be there though and is hitting form at the right time online and locally offline so am hoping with a little bit of good fortune (unlike broadway lol) he can do well. Rookie will be fine if he's on my left again. With 210 playing though I imagine it'll be a reasonably tough field to negotiate.Good luck all who'll be up there, I'll prob see some of you Friday night when I'll be hitting the roulette tables and then the toon. So anyone welcome to come up and have a pre tourney stategy talk. Title: Re: APAT NEWCASTLE Post by: Rookie (Rodney) on December 03, 2006, 02:24:26 AM Just back at hotel now. No luck for myself, in the 3 levels i was in i had AK once, which i folded preflop for my oppo to show AA.. I never managed to hit one single pair on a flop - of which i probably saw 15-20. Then i finally have AK on a King high flop and walk into AA ..LOL. Not one pocket pair either lol.
Good News though, TOM TOM IS GOING TO TAKE IT DOWN. 24 players return tomorrow, and tom is on 100k with blinds soon to go 6k/12k. 21 pay. Only other blonde ive seen in is Suited Jock. Just saw M3 on the cash game as i was leaving lol, a massive £5 down :P Nothing considering he took £1300 last night. I managed to make £360 which pays for the weekend and tomorrows £100 fo at aspers. Title: Re: APAT NEWCASTLE Post by: charmaine on December 03, 2006, 09:31:11 AM Goodluck TomTom :)up

Will do a proper write up tomorrow (although I suspect it will be very brief!) I think you were at my table, did you lose to AK? I went out with a set of fives against MattyMilnes nut flush, he better bloody win the whole thing now! Possibly. Although I held AK and lost two thirds of my stack when I called an all-in bet, running into pocket queens. The 10 6 hand that finally got me eliminated happened after the flop. It was almost a family pot pre-flop. On the flop there was nothing higher than an eight showing, and I had a possible straight draw. Small blind made a smallish raise, and I pushed all-in for about 2500 chips. Everyone folded to the small blind who made a very quick call with 10 9 offsuit, which I thought was very strange. Didn't got a pair or draw or anything really. Anyway his kicker was bigger than mine, and I didn't improve. Went up to the Grosvenor after that and entered the £10 re-buy tournament, but my heart wasn't really into it by that time, so I just chilled out afterwards and had a few pints. Managed to introduce myself and have a brief chat to Ironside and Tikay during my visit, amongst other people. Had a great time, despite the poor result. Think overall I played too tight, kept on turning down those coinflips. From 4pm till 10pm I never had more than 10*bb, so just treading water waiting for the rush that never happened. Spent the first few hours at table 12 and was mostly impressed (and gutted) with the quality of player. Two players were even tighter than me mind, so they were obviously too tight / card dead. Finally got the monster K9 off in the sb, limp by the cutoff, I dwelled up a little, basically deciding whether to go allin there or do the old "stop n go". Chose the latter and when I saw a flop of 35Q it looked like the choice I made was looking good...allin...cutoff had Q10 and turned another Q. Hindsight showing the first choice would probably have took it down. Still, going out day one meant sunday could be spent with my family before returning to the midlands....think that is a silver lining ;-) Title: Re: APAT NEWCASTLE Post by: TightEnd on December 04, 2006, 12:44:53 AM Here is the official result, I will be writing a full tournament report tomorrow which will be all over the web!!

Title: Re: APAT NEWCASTLE Post by: TightEnd on December 04, 2006, 01:30:55 AM Still a sick payout structure. It was publicised widely before the event with few dissenting voices. It was flattened significantly after Event 1 due to feedback received then It was universally popular at the event The package can't be split and goes to the winner, the 23.9% of the pool to the winner of the entry monies is way flatter than any festival. 15.9% to 2nd and 9.5% to third. 10% of the total field was paid and the top ten each received ten times their buy in If there is negative feedback, we'll of course refine further for Event 3. Shame I got my rush too early but I guess it wasnt called the table of death for nothing.
APAT Newcastle Trip Report After playing in the Birmingham event I had told myself I was going to play every APAT event I had permission to go to. Whilst I had some difficulties buying my seat (the payment site couldnt cope with the demand) I made it in and was off to Newcastle on the 2/3rd Dec. Drove down Saturday morning couldn't check into the hotel so dumped the bags and headed to the casino done the whole registration thing and chilled in the bar til start time. First thoughts on Aspers casino its a bit on the bright side... they look like they copied the Atlantis Orbs in their casino and decided to recreate it with 100w coloured lightbulbs.. but anyway im not there to look at the interior design and the card room itself was excellent and away from all the faux vegas of the main casino. The tournament itself was on from the word go 10k in chips I was table 3 seat 1 and the very first hand goes like this... UTG+1 makes it 200 all fold to the CO who raises to 600... back round to UTG+1 who makes it 1200.. CO flat calls. Flop Q high all clubs... UTG+1 bets 2500... CO shoves UTG+1 calls... 20075 pot on the first hand!!!!!!!!!!! black Aces for UTG+1 , Red A King of clubs for the CO... no help for the big slick and he gets knocked out of a deepstack event on his birthday. It started off frustratingly for me.. my first pot was against a fellow scot sat in the 10 seat. My BB blinds 25/50 two limpers and the small blind completes I look down at 8h 4h and rap the felt. Flop 8s 8c 6d Limper 1 bets 150 , SB calls I bump it up to 600.. limper gets out the way SB calls. Turn Ts I bet 1200 and it gets called... river 2s completing the flush draw.. SB leads for 2400... I think I outhought myself in this one.. I can't put him on the flush draw and I hadn't seen him play enough to have any sort of read... I make the crying call and sure enough he has me outkickered with J8 .. It all gets a bit frustrating after that having to lay down JJ on a Q high board and find myself at a tournie low of 3300.. Raises 99 with the full intention of going all the way with it with the 150/300 blinds. Pilf from the first event flat calls and we see the flop of K9K I shove and he calls with AK and doubles me up pretty cold deck that one. Double up with KK v QQ and KK v QQ lol and am sitting on a healthy 30k ish for the remainder of the day until the dinner break.. Return from dinner (after nipping out to the burger van because the buffet queue was out the door and up the stairs and then they ran out of food oops) and play one hand in 2 blind levels.. that was raising A2 in late position and taking the blinds. Tournie supervisor takes the BB and thankfully its me and I move to a new table... this is where the rush begins!!! I go on a mad rush with AA / KK / AK / KQ / AK / AA busting 5 players in quick succession and amassing a juicy 170k in chips at its high point. Then things started going wrong.. I was raising and being shoved in by short stacks... getting decent enough odds to call i did so and both times had dominated Aces this took me right back down to 120ish this didnt seem to stop people pushing over my raises and found myself having to laydown hands after raising first in and facing allin bets from the aggressive players on my left. As quickly as I had all my chips with 30 players remaining i was on the 90k mark and with 2000-4000 blinds whilst not in trouble I was going to have to accumulate chips to get to the final table... unfortunately for the last two levels the cards didnt come and with all the big stacks at my table I was unable to getadecent enough hands to try to win big pots enough times to be profitable.. thus at the end of day 1 i had 75k in chips returning the next day with blinds of 5 and 10k meaning my M was about 5 with 24 players and the money starting at 21. I was absoultely shattered and had no trouble sleeping through my pre-paid for breakfast (doh) however I was feeling refreshed and good about trying to go deep into day 2. It started off well I took a 40k or so pot in a SB/BB battle with K9 against A3 on a 7AK2K board I shoved the river but my opponent was having none of it.. He knew me better than to pay me off there. I coast into the money at that point but still having nothing playable and the 15k a round really taking its toll. We get broken up down to 2 tables and ive got a little less than 90k for the final 20 players. I find 55 in MP and make it 25k MP3 flat calls and the BB shoves for like 200k ... i go into the tank and ham it up but theres noway i can call here and i pass and MP3 passes. Great bet from the BB no matter what she had but I reckon it was a monster. so with like 50k left after posting my now 12,000 (6k/12k) BB with 8s 4s I get to see a flop as only the sb completes. It went something like K25 rainbow. Check Check. The turn brought a 3s and the SB min bet 12,000 into the 24,000 pot with about 100k behind. I shoved for the following reasons... a)I have no read on the guy but a half pot bet on a non threatening board does not seem to be strong at all.. even if he has a K i thought he might let me do the betting first. b) ive got an open ended straight draw and a little bit of folding equity ( i represent just over half his stack inc the BB already in here) and my allin bet can win it in two ways... he folds or I hit one of my remaining outs on the river. Sadly he had K9 and the 5 on the river was meaningless. I definitely had to make a move and it was only after Claret1 / Tallpaul who busted out in 21st tells me "Oh yer he min bets a lot with a strong hand he did it to me a couple of times" probably meant I coulda passed but hindsight as they say is a wonderful thing. Another great weekend and another cash which will probably be spent on wallpaper or paint or something wonderful like that smile See you in wales boyos! Title: Re: APAT NEWCASTLE Post by: DaMatrix on December 04, 2006, 12:27:55 PM Thanks to everyone involved with organising this APAT event. I had a great time but messed up slightly at the final table.
Part of the problem regarding the payout structure is that places 4-10 all paid the same hence the play during that prize level wasn't great. I know it was set out to encourage players to go for first, but when that involves playing like a donk then I'm not sure it's a good thing. There is more chance for the best player to win if an escalating FT prize structure is used. I'm not complaining though, just giving some feedback on an overall excellent tournament. Title: Re: APAT NEWCASTLE Post by: Foggy on December 04, 2006, 12:47:31 PM Sherrif,

He called someone Greg Raymer on the table I was playing (table 2, he'll have been about seat 9) but he may have done this to several people after a few double Baileys! We all know how hard it must be to pull off events like that ;applause; ;topman; I had a great time and cant wait for Wales....... Title: Re: APAT NEWCASTLE Post by: Foggy on December 04, 2006, 01:31:58 PM The Baileys over ice not ice over Baileys had definately taken effect as Ironside appologised for calling someone else Foggy, then called me Greg Raymer.
There are massive differences between us and $5.7 million Title: Re: APAT NEWCASTLE Post by: Ironside on December 04, 2006, 09:19:04 PM sherriff you played those queens terrible imagine calling my reraise on the flop and raise on the turn
mind you i out played you the very next hand to make a little profit cant beleive the way you went out though was horrible i didnt last much longer only fault with the comp was there was no nurse in place to give me baileys on a drip and i kept losing concentration as i was looking for valet drink finally arrived and i sent valet back for another double straight away Title: Re: APAT NEWCASTLE Post by: daveymck on December 05, 2006, 10:45:52 AM I enjoyed the event just wish I had got some cards and lasted a bit longer, ended up bluffing all my chips off and feeling embarressed with the whole room looking and clapping.
Spent an enjoyable 4 hours sat next to Bainn, even though I dont talk much at the table enjoyed his company and the fact he was even tighter than me (I think he played 2 hands in that time). Need to learn in future to have a bit more patience in these slower live events. I was downstairs on table 20 right in front of the big screen so was great for watching the matches and keeping up with the live scores. I still tend to be on 2+2 more with a bit of The mob forum may hang round here a bit as see theres a lot of Mob and Gutshot regulars on here. |
