Title: First live game - help!
Post by: pswnio on December 06, 2006, 12:02:09 PM
Heh. I'm a bit bored of playing online so have decided to head off to a poker room tonight (Equal Chance) to try my luck live.

Naturally, I'm shitting it. And have a couple of questions.

(1) Will I get away with a sloppy, nebie shuffle, or will I be expected to riffle shuffle or some other such cleverness? Because I HAVEN'T LEARNT.

(2) Is it player to left of dealer shuffles and player to right cuts?

(3) Does one burn a card before the flop, one before the turn and one before the river?

Thanks in advance, my lovelies.

Heh. I've already got that sorted, mate. I've a room full of bloody guitars. That's why I'm going out to play poker, I need to stop practising.

Cheers. I actually chose Equal Chance on the strength of one of your posts. It's Beginners' Night tonight, it transpires, so I should be fine. £5 rebuy, ha. I wonder how many will play? Does it tend to get busy on a weeknight?

uh oh £5 rebuy! yes it will be busy, yes you'll need £ for some rebuys

If you fancy popping half an hour north one weekday night to Grosvenor Luton a few of us can show you the ropes in the  £15/20£25 rebuy comps  which you might find a bit less mad/more sensible poker

First drink's on me.

the rest are on Snatiramas

I might just do that, mate. As for tonight, I'll be trying to keep pots small. I abhor giving people the right pot odds, but I'm sure plenty will chase regardless of odds at this level.

odds won't matter in a £5 rebuy period

the good news is if you get thru the rebuy period assault course, they won't matter to some players in the freezeout period either

Having only 3-4 months ago started playing live i would say the most important thing it to get comfortable with the environment. Only then can you play your game and not get caught up with everything else playing thats going on.

Like others have said sit back and just take it in for a bit. It's sure beats tint'ernet play.

I played like a turd. Rebuy hour pure bingo. Finished 10th out of 30. Great cardroom though, and dealers on all tables, which I wasn't expecting.

The question is did you enjoy it or not
