Title: signs to quit smoking??
Post by: Claw75 on December 07, 2006, 12:27:56 PM
The recent posts about quitting smoking have prompted me to post this - it's a bit of a weird one, but I'm wondering if I'm being sent 'signs' that I should give up smoking.....(pure coincidence of course, but weird nonetheless).

I don't smoke in my flat, I smoke out on the balcony.  I have a little table and chairs out there with a large heavy glass ashtray on the table.  Sunday afternoon I went out to have a cigarette, and put the ciggie out in the ashtray which was now VERY full.  Went out to the shops for a few hours, then popped out for another ciggie when I got home.  The ashtray was smashed.  What was weird was the way it was smashed.  In about five large segments (like a sliced pizza) with a smaller segment in the middle.  One ofthe pieces was on the floor, three more were still on the table pretty much as they were and one was missing.  also, there were only two or three cigarette butts left on the table, no sign of the others anywhere.  This really threw me, because I couldn't for the life of me work out what had happened to cause the ashtray to break in this manner.  I asked hubby and he had no clue either.

Anyway, to the back of my mind that went.  That evening some of you may have seen my post about my PC dying on me heads up in a MTT with a nice chip lead, seeing me only take 2nd place.  What I didn't explain was exactly what happend.  I play on a laptop plugged into power supply, but occasionally unplug it and drag it outside to have a ciggie.  Never caused me any grief before.  On this occasion I had just been out for a cigarette, and it was at the point that I plugged the power supply back into the laptop that the thing gave out.

Very odd.  If anyone's got any explanations about the ashtray though I'd be interested to hear them as it's still puzzling me.

Claw,

I expect what happened here is that a burgler climbed over your balcony, knocked the ashtray onto the floor, it smashed in a wierd manner, and it scared him off. If you hadn't have been a smoker, he could well have still been in the house when you returned from the shop, and heaven forbid what tragedy might have occured then. You should thank smoking for saving your life.
