Title: O/T Strike It Lucky
Post by: thetank on December 07, 2006, 03:43:44 PM
Michael Barrymore is in Aberdeen at the moment, performing in some doo-dah at the newly refurbished Her Majesty's Theatre there.

Got a call from my wee brother this morning. Apparently Barrymore was in his nightclub at the weekend (the one he works in, not his nightclub) After their drink licence ended, he stayed back and was having a bite to eat.

A very sociable person apparently, chatting to everyone, including a great deal to my little brother. While enjoying his after hours tucker, he apologised "I'm not keeping you up am I"

"Oh no, don't worry about it." My little brother replied politely, "I'm usually up for a fair bit anyway after work.

"I'm the same" agrees Barrymore

He asks for my little brothers number, saying they could exchange texts if he's still awake. My brother declined initially, but then changed his mind, just as he was leaving. His thinking was, ooh, it'd be cool to get Michael Barrymore's number.

So he slips a piece of paper into the celebs hand as he was donning his coat. Sure enough, an hour or so later he gets a text, asking him if he's still awake. My bro gave an affirmitive response, and the next text he recieved was of an unambigous propositional nature.

The reply that followed from my little brother had the word girlfriend in it about five times. A polite no was around about the jist of it.

They have exchanged more text messages since, my brother setting Barrymore up with an interested third party.

Anyway, I'm not sure what to make of all this. Sounds a little unlikely, but my little brother isn't usually the kind who makes things up, and his story felt genuine when he was telling me it.

Usually I'm a live and let be kind of person but...........

Maybe a 50 something who goes preying on 20 year old boys, trading on his celebrity status, is asking for a bit of a wind up. I phoned my wee bro up, and convinced him to give me Michael Barrymore's phone number for the purposes of "fair game"

After consulting with a mod, I'm not allowed to post the actual number here, (fair enough) but I am allowed to ask for suggestions as to what form any wind up should take.

Would any of the machivallian minds on here care to take a swing?

Leave the poor man alone....

I don't think he will see the funny side.

yep..leave the man alone.

would you have the same problem with a guy getting the phonenumber from a girl? I really don't see the problem with a barrymore being interested in your brother. and if your brother set him up with an interested 3rd party..good for him.

I honestly don't give a crap who gives his phonenumber to whom if they are looking for a date (or just to get laid) fair play to him.

Sounds like your brother led him up the garden path.

Can I at least ring his doorbell then run away?

I'm feeling 5 years old today.

are you feeling "told off" 5 years old or want to misbehave 5 years old?

I hate to put sensible head on, but, while I wouldn't go to a party, or a swimming pool with the guy,all he's done is chatted someone up and got the signals wrong. It doesn't make any difference that he's got them wrong with a young guy instead of a young girl. Wee bro seems to have taken handled dealt with it well, so picking on Barrymore's a bit unfair.

I guess that I'm just a little pissed off.

Although what ACE2M says is right, people over 18 can do what they like, I don't really think of my little brother as an adult, capable of making his own, wordly wise, desicions.

I don't think my brother did lead him up the garden path. He gave him his phone number because he got asked for it. Initially he didn't want to, but he did because "he was a celebrity"
It just got me thinking that someone else's little brother may have gone through the next step, "because he was a celebrity" and did something they initially didn't want to, and later go on to regret.

Who knows, maybe I'm just jealous because I won't be able to pull 20 year olds when I'm 50+. By all accounts he is a rather lonely man though, maybe a cruel wind-up is a bridge too far.

Top, middle or bottom?

I've got to read threads earlier, otherwise people will continue to post crappy jokes before I get the chance.

Anyway Tank, I don't see what the problem is. A grown man asks another grown man if he'd be interested in, you know. He is declined. Things move on. There's nothing illegal here. Unless Barrymore chased after your brother with a broken chair leg I'd leave him alone.

reminds me of a story i heard years ago about a mate of a mate, who lived in a posh house in the street where mr b lived with his wife at that time. his parents had some kind of party and invited mr and mrs b. the next morning mrs b was knocking at the door with a bunch of flowers and an apology for the parents and 2K for the son if he would be so kind as not to go to the newspapers.
