Title: Installing an alarm system
Post by: TightPaulFolds on December 08, 2006, 11:39:06 PM
I have been trying to develop some kind of alarm system so that I can make some kind of attempt to fold even great-looking second best hands. I don't think I'll ever mind losing with set over set, but I'd love to be doing some kind of decent attempt at dropping second best flushes and 2 pair to trips. For a while if I was on the wrong side of it I put it down to bad luck and supposed that next time I'd be on the right side of it. My own personal horror stories have been cash games with Top 2 pair or a good set on the flop against someone's made straight. Looking back, all the information I needed was there. Is it possible to develop consistent disciplined folds?
It was (just) being on the right side of this train wreck that really got me thinking. Could you have folded your 4-s full here?

This is a bit of an unfortunate hand - if you had played it stronger on the flop you would probably have got all the money in on the turn and then the river suckout would have made you eligible for a 50p donation to the bad beat fund.

As far as your river bet is concerned - does it get called by a worse hand?  Maybe it does get called by a bare 3 kings - it depends on your opponent.  If you bet 1000, does a hand you beat raise?  Once again maybe sometimes.  I don't think a good player calls the allin or raises a bet of 1000 with a hand you beat.
