Intelligent questions & intelligent answers = great reading, well done both.

One of my "Moments of 2006" was watching when Max had KK & the flop came AAK........his "poker face" momentarily dropped & he nearly shot out of his seat!

Dang - here was me expecting to read an interview with phrases like:

"Nobody "snuggles" with Max Power. You strap yourself in and feel the G's!"

and

"Kids, there's three ways to do things. The right way, the wrong way, and the Max Power way!"

and it turns out his name is actually Max Ward!! :'( must grumble

ahh well another victory notched up for the NW of England :)up

just read the interview

you claimed our first table was tight ????

didnt you see any of my plays? i thought my play of the 76o on the AJ9 flop was one of the best plays in history

and your calling a 3k rereraise on the first level with Aced Kd wasnt the tightest play in the world

mind you well done on winning the event

just sorry it went quicker than i execpted so i was unable to watch the whole of the final table

BTW when you get to vegas tell em i taught you it will scare the bejesus out of them

but you never raised even on river what you have a missed draw?

That was due to the 'bet the fish has got a 7' thought that was racing in my mind.

Big Ace, naturally.

Bear in mind that the raise with QQ in the previous hand didn't get you off your T-7 or whatever it was you lost with!

I sat next to Max for several hours at Newcastle and never realised we were from the same town, Stockport. Small world.

you forgot to raise it preflop

i joined inthe many limpers with T9 from sb and caught top pair with a flush draw check raised the flop bet the turn and checked down the river standard play didnt realise you had slow played the queens with a better flush draw

I thought the pot had been raised pre-flop, perhaps not by me but by an EP raiser.

If I'd flat called pre-flop then there must've already been a number of limpers and no real prospect of thinning the field.

Its a dim and distant memory by now, as I won that hand.  Its the one's I lose that tend to stick in the mind, which is bloody typical!

wow you must have a very good memory if you remember all the hands you lose

i can actually remember every hand when i am sober

there was 2 limpers before you and 2 after you

WP Max.

I did fall off my chair reading this though

TE: Heads up was a long see-saw battle. First you must talk us through the KK hand when you flopped KAA and checked three times!

MW: It was simple really I had intended to raise my kings minimum on the button but forget to announce my raise as I piled my chips in. This resulted in me flat calling and my opponent checking.  When the flop dropped I thought I had played it super cool and looked like I had no interest. After the event I was told I nearly took off out my seat, which is embarrassing but its easier said than done sitting still when you flop a monster full house.

That said, although I had flopped the monster I was aware that the one occasion I had seen my opponent trap and slow play (in the whole tournament) was when he played Kings a few hands prior. Maybe I was too prudent but considering such cuteness I was concerned by concealed AK (AA was unlikey but ultimately the same eng game). To that end I checked down the board actually hoping he had hit an ace but that he could bet first and to which I would have raised 1/3 my stack. If he had reraised or put me in I would have folded as there was too much ambiguity to risk the title on that one hand.  If I had bet out first and faced a reraise I would have to have folded and lost a lot of chips. As it turned out he didn’t hit Ace or King and despite catching an 8 on the turn I think, I don’t feel any bet would have induced a call. The only hand playing that call in his position facing my chip stack and preflop play would only ever be a hand that had me beat.

I don’t think anyone understood how I played that hand, people were surprised I hadn’t just pushed in. Maybe I could have value bet the river, that is a strong call. But what chance would I have of beating a hand that would call that bet?

How else would u have played the hand?

I dont pretend it was my greatest play but I was marginally behind at this point.

The fact he was checking down on the button meant that if I bet I dont think I would have a caller and the end result would have been the same anyway. If he was prepared to bet the river (or the turn) as I had hoped (maye with a small ace) then I could raise and see where I stood. Betting into this just commited too many chips with limited value in the play - if i was raised, I was in a big decison for the title or hed fold and the outcome would be the same.

Thanks for the support all!!

I am soo looking forward to Vegas - id actually like to do a diary or a blog for the APAT whilst im out there but well see what transpires!

I dont think many would argue the table was tight - one or two limped plays or (more likely) your 'on-tilt' moves does not determine a loose table.  Dont forget for at least the first round we had 11 players at the table all with deepstacks, thats big!

You get your raising hand wrong also, I made a move on the flop, hoping you hadnt hit and you reraised me to £2k (not £3k), pot odds were inside 2.5:1 - so there was value to the call (10 outs inside straight draw and two overcards), it was a fair play. The bet was well intended, I had value to call and with the turn not hitting me and the pot growing I was best to cut and walk away, being out of position I had little choice and maybe it was better reserved for a time in position but first event nerves do get the better of you!!

dont worry max, i was joking at the table how tight it was i tried my best to loosen it up but the boy band wouldnt play

not sure which hand you were on about but i wasnt involved in it i dont think

the one i was on about when the lead singer from the boy bands made it 200 preflop you made it 500 to play from button i made it 3k hoping to take down the pot there and then the boy band folded you thought about it and called when the ace flopped i had to check fold my kings face up you showed the AKd (the only hand you could call the reraise with)

Apologies Max - didn't mean for me and Iron to temporarily hijack your thread.

Congrats on a great result.  I don't think I tangled very much with you on the start table but you obviously got through it safely enough, and you did have to overcome close proximity to Ironside's singing!

At least he didn't class you as part of the 'boyband' though!

Sheriff

I shouldnt worry about committing yourself to this pot flopping a house with KK. I cant believe you actually checked it down worried that he had a bigger house. At this stage of the tournament, why when the blinds are big relative to the stacks are you worried about getting your chips in with a house? Also what hand are you waiting to get your chips in with?

No offence, your strategyworked fine, you won the tournament! But in future if you play big tournaments you must not be overly worried of people beating your hand all the time or you will get eaten up!

Best of luck for the future and congratulations :)
