Title: Getting Sponsorship Post by: maccer on December 13, 2006, 06:04:28 PM Hi Guys,
I have been playing poker online for the last year or so. I play mainly NL Holdem cash games. I have been quite successful and a winner over time. Obviously I go through bad patches but the trend is definitely profitable. I would like to start playing fulltime but would need a much larger bankroll to allow me handle the swings of higher level of cash play ... ie. $5/$10 and upwards. Are there any opportunities for sponsorship or support to do this for players at my level $1/$2 and $2/$4. From what I see only the very successful pros have these sort of opportunities. Just wondering whether anyone has any thoughts on this? Any advice or direction here would be appreciated. Title: Re: Getting Sponsorship Post by: Ironside on December 13, 2006, 06:09:56 PM SPAM?????
Title: Re: Getting Sponsorship Post by: TightEnd on December 13, 2006, 06:12:05 PM I think its ok
welcome to blonde maccer, I think the simple answer might be "no" but we'll see..... Title: Re: Getting Sponsorship Post by: AndrewT on December 13, 2006, 06:17:38 PM Sounds like you're actually after someone to stake you (rather than sponsorship, as that implies publicity work which a nobody wouldn't get).
Your actual question is 'I play at $1/$2 and $2/$4 and manage to win a bit so I want to give up work and play poker for a job. However, I'm not actually successful enough to be able to build my bankroll to a level where I can do this so, er, will someone give me money to play poker with?' No one is going to stake you out of the goodness of their heart, they're going to want something in return, which will be part of your winnings. Your win rate doesn't seem to be high enough at $1/$2 or $2/$4 to enable you to increase your bankroll to the next level - how do you propose to build your bankroll at $5/$10 whilst having to give up a percentage of your winnings? From what I see only the very successful pros have these sort of opportunities. Why do you think this might be? Title: Re: Getting Sponsorship Post by: ariston on December 13, 2006, 06:25:00 PM please take some advice from someone who has gone up through the levels and come back down with a bump- Play within your roll. It is possible to make 1000 a week easily at 1/2 or 2/4 and how much do you need to win?

Try dtd. Sandy Title: Re: Getting Sponsorship Post by: Rooky9 on December 13, 2006, 06:37:42 PM Actually there is one opportunity that would fit your bill - right in front of our faces.
you may want to look at the DTD poker site. You would first have to prove yourself as a consistant winner, but I think their trader scheme fits what your talking about. Good luck Title: Re: Getting Sponsorship Post by: Rooky9 on December 13, 2006, 06:38:43 PM http://www.dtdpoker.com/LeftSectionItem3Page1.aspx Try dtd. Sandy doh... your too quick! yes it take take me 5 minutes to post that! Title: Re: Getting Sponsorship Post by: Ironside on December 13, 2006, 06:42:06 PM who else is expecting a link to another trading site to apear this time tomorrow with the new member claiming to have stumbled accross it today?

On the other hand it does sound like a question that I am sure has crossed all of our minds at some time. Are all the trade/sponsor sites scams? Are all the trade/sponsor sites scams? nope most of them are not scams but i dont like them spamming poker forums if i was after a trade sponsor site then i would get recomendations from people i know or search via google and explore Title: Re: Getting Sponsorship Post by: maccer on December 13, 2006, 07:24:05 PM please take some advice from someone who has gone up through the levels and come back down with a bump- Play within your roll. I accept that good money can be made at the 1/2 and 2/4 levels, just managing the bankroll to deal with the highs and lows I find is one of the biggest challenges. good luck! Seriously, patience is a key skill in poker, keep on playing (and winning) at the levels you are comfortable with and you'll get to your required bankroll. If you don't get there, it's probably best if you don't go full time.. Title: Re: Getting Sponsorship Post by: PunkFloyd on December 14, 2006, 09:53:46 AM Intersting thread guys... I know I am running the gauntlet here and risking proving the hugely cynical Ironside right.... Maccer there are a few sites that provide bankroll for winning online players.. I wont name any others here (so there Ironside) here, but dusktilldawn is certainly one.. (best of luck Rob by the way, with both the online site and the soon to be Mecca of Poker)
Back to Maccer ... the critical thing though is that these backers are in it to make money -- the help thy can provide varies from company to company... everything from bankroll help, through training to analysis of your play and your opponents play. If you really are a winning player, then these sites caan help you move up levels, improve your game and provide you with edge.... but reread Ariston's post too ... poker is filled with people's broken dreams... don't be too anxious to play at the highest levels....
