Title: Which would you choose? Post by: Royal Flush on December 20, 2006, 01:32:35 AM Ok this was a debate some people may remember from THM from years ago:
If you were given the choice between knowing what the community cards are going to be or knowing what your opponent's hole cards are which would you choose and why? P.S. the abbreviation P4C is banned in this thread as are "30%" and "70%" Title: Re: Which would you choose? Post by: Bongo on December 20, 2006, 01:34:31 AM easy: hole cards, could play perfect poker then.
Title: Re: Which would you choose? Post by: booder on December 20, 2006, 01:35:14 AM seventy percent of the time i would like to know what the flop will be
thirty percent of the time i would like to know my opponents hole cards there.........no mention of P4C damn Title: Re: Which would you choose? Post by: roverthtaeh on December 20, 2006, 07:47:51 PM Opponents hole cards.
You get to see the board anyway. Title: Re: Which would you choose? Post by: Graham C on December 20, 2006, 08:37:50 PM Opponants hole cards for me too. Even knowing the board cards in advance, you can still lose.
Title: Re: Which would you choose? Post by: Rooky9 on December 20, 2006, 08:42:06 PM I think you would win more and look better knowing your opponents cards... but I would love to see those raggy flops make me full houses constantly!
Title: Re: Which would you choose? Post by: snoopy1239 on December 20, 2006, 08:46:34 PM You still need to hit, even if you can see the board. However, if you can see your opponent's hole cards, you can win the pot without making your hand, simply by knowing that they haven't made theirs.
Title: Re: Which would you choose? Post by: ariston on December 20, 2006, 09:46:05 PM OK if you are all going to take my hole cards I shall take the board and just go allin preflop whenever I am going to flop the nuts or close to it. If I go allin with say 36o/s are you going to call me? Wouldn't you be surprised when the board read 245JQ....If you are going to fold when I go allin preflop I will just go allin 90% of the hands I play then.
i am just playing devils advocate btw- I would normally want to see the other guys hole cards as well but there are flaws to both sides of the argument. Title: Re: Which would you choose? Post by: Nem on December 20, 2006, 11:06:01 PM Hole cards everytime my YOOT!!!
Title: Re: Which would you choose? Post by: thetank on December 20, 2006, 11:11:58 PM Assuming that you are getting the information from dodgy channels. Also assuming there is some sort of greater moral imperative to justify your cheating in the game. (You're playing Genghis Khan and want to rob him of money which he may use to buy raging hordes or something.)
Which do you think would be the easiest to avoid detection, and get away with for the longest time? Title: Re: Which would you choose? I thought you were the only one who said community cards when we had this on THM, i may be wrong. You reasoned you could tell what people had anyway pretty much so would rather know what was coming. Title: Re: Which would you choose? Post by: Wardonkey on December 20, 2006, 11:18:50 PM If I was going to cheat I would choose not cheat against someone with raging hordes at their disposal.

If yes, I would choose to see the flop. If no, I would see my opponents cards. Because if they know I know their cards they will play radically differently. Title: Re: Which would you choose? Post by: thetank on December 20, 2006, 11:38:22 PM Board cards for me.
There would be no fun if you knew exactly what your opponent had. No sense of gratification upon making a correct read. When the only unknown is what cards are going to land, there's really nothing to do but crunch numbers every now and then, no intuition, no art at all left in the game. You can win enough either way, so I don't think potential financial gain would be a factor. Both methods would probably give you a similar edge after you dull them down to avoid detection. Most importantly, keep em coming back! Making sure they always get their money in "ahead" in the big pots. Then they think they are a better player, and will almost certainly return again and again with more hordes/cash. |
