Title: I am getting chuffed off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: smithy69 on December 21, 2006, 09:39:15 AM So after not playing online poker for 4 months due to moving house, rubbish computer etc - my new laptop has arrived and as discussed yesterday my internet is not- due to my free wireless router not arriving from orange.
I went out last night and bought a wireless router as Orange said they would give me the set up details and i could get access to their wireless connection through a belkin router as a stop gap, until the correct one arrives. I didnt have too much idea what i needed, and to be honest Curry's were not to much help - and i ended up with a Belkin Wireless G Router which is fo rsharing connection - not setting it up. Could someone post a link for the part i need please as I cannot get answers anywhere I will pay for the info via heads up game if need be -reallty wanna get on the internet thanks guys Title: Re: I am getting chuffed off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Title: Re: I am getting chuffed off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: KeithyB on December 21, 2006, 09:53:17 AM Hi Smithy,
Others on here will know far more than me but I'd say you can use this one to set up your internet. Just looks like a standard router? :dontask: If your new broadband is activated can't see why this router wouldn't do what you needed i.e. get your computer online. Have you given it a try to see if it works? http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=136493 (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=136493) Title: Re: I am getting chuffed off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: smithy69 on December 21, 2006, 10:07:04 AM It says -
''Connect your cable/DSL Modem to your Belkin Wireless G router to allow your computers to share Broadband Internet Access. I tried to set it up , and it said now'' connect the blue cable from your modem to your belkin router'' I cannot do that. It is a wireless set up. Am I being stupid!!! Title: Re: I am getting chuffed off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: Suited_Jock on December 21, 2006, 10:14:52 AM Your not being stupid no.
You cannot connect to the internet and share the connection at the same time with the router you currently have. What you require is a Wireless router WITH a built in ADSL Modem what you have is a wireless router sens modem... To get it working the diagram goes like this TELEPHONE SOCKET ----> ADSL MODEM -> WIRELESS ROUTER OR TELEPHONE SOCKET --> WIRELESS ROUTER WITH BUILT IN MODEM You need a modem to actually connect to the internet which you dont have at the moment... march back to currys and tell them you want a wireless router with a built in ADSL modem. Post by: smithy69 on December 21, 2006, 10:46:06 AM The home line is not used for calls - so I take it I dont need microfilter??
Why will there be 2 boxes attached- does the product I have to buy tonight have 2 boxes included within it Told you I was a numpty when it came to this - now imagine this same conversation with Curry's staff - I would still be there now lolol Title: Re: I am getting chuffed off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The product you will buy is only one box as it has a built in Modem... On the back of the "box" there will be a symbol for ADSL or line or a picture of a phone... this cable goes from the phoneline to your router... It will have a pamphlet explaining how you set everything up but you will only have 1 Does everything box :) Title: Re: I am getting chuffed off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: smithy69 on December 21, 2006, 11:22:03 AM Cheers Mate - Is it reasonably easy to set up the parameters once they have been given by orange
Title: Re: I am getting chuffed off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: lazaroonie on December 21, 2006, 11:33:25 AM yes - the easiest way will be to actually connect the laptop to the router using the network cable provided to set everything up the first time. It will give you an IP address for the router setup page which you type into internet explorer, and that will bring up the settings. Most settings will be defaulted for most service providers, so all you will have to do is put in your username and password and dont need to worry about VCI/PPPOA/PPPOE etc etc.

Post by: Indestructable on December 21, 2006, 05:57:18 PM Sure I have been down this route. You go into a shop, say what you want and they say you need this box here. great, thanks and takes it home.
gets home and it doesn't work. You go back and then they say no you don't need this box you need that box. take the new box home and it works. Why they can't tell you what you need in the first place is beyond me. ;bat; Rant over. Title: Re: I am getting chuffed off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
