Title: pc hardware help
Post by: Ironside on December 23, 2006, 07:09:30 PM
i am trying to find out the make of my sound card so i can locate the drivers for it

i have opened up the base unit (first time in my 15 years of owning pc's) and the audio sockets plug into a silver box with foxconn written on it

foxconn being a big manufactor of all types of branded hardware

is there a better way to identify the card?

it would tell me but its not installed hence the reason why i am trying to find the name to get the drivers so i can reinstall them

(major meltdown on pc meant i finally formatted the harddrive it was a little overdue and silly billy thought that xp had the drivers for the soundcard)

Are you running windows xp? XP should be able to autodetect the drivers needed, try and install it and let windows do it's thang

Try manually installing the drivers in system.
Google your PC model number?

put 17 strong magnets all over your pc tower .... the soundcard will be the least of your worries then :)

Is the box with the sockets on a PCI card or attached directly to the motherboard?

if its an integrated device, chances are if you search for, and download the drivers for "ac97" soundcard, then this will get you fixed.
