One Christmas, I was driving through Worksop with a heavily pregnant Mrs Red when we were stopped by the police for speeding. "What's the big hurry?" the seargent asked. "My wife is having a baby" I replied, thinking on my feet.

He insisted on escorting us to the hospital, lights flashing, sirens wailing. When we arrived, he had a word with the head midwife, and she made Mrs Red say in overnight for "Observation"

As he left, he gave us a wink and a smile, and wished us a merry Christmas.

Yes, my Family all went to Norway at short notice and I decided to stay at home to save money and look after the dogs. I met up with my mates later in the evening though so it wasn't so bad  :D

My Mum and Dad are Jehovah's Witnesses and we never had Christmas when I was a kid  so when I went back to school after the christmas break I had to lie to my friends about what presents I had got.

I was at school with a Jehova's Witness - I thought it was real bad not to celebrate Christmas or Birthdays, or have TV - I couldnt understand it.

Must of been hard for you.

We had a telly, as far as I'm aware it wasn't on the "banned list" although we were limited to what we watched.
I can't honestly remember being upset about missing out on anything but the presents lol.
I did get presents but not for specific reasons so it's not as though we went without, it was just the feeling of being "different" for something you were too young to understand.
Secondary school was a different matter, I had free periods when everyone else did R.E. and all my mates were jealous
and the girls felt sorry for me.
.

My sisters ex Spanish partner is a Jehovah's Witness. She moved back to UK when their daughter was quite young.

He wanted to visit his daughter over Xmas as he had time off work, so he and his girlfriend stayed with her for a week or 2 over the Christmas period.

We are not religious in the least and explained that Xmas was about kids getting gifts and family meeting up for a good time but they refused to join in and stayed upstairs the whole time...we all felt very uncomfortable.

My worse Xmas was when I had got a barmaid/live in job in London (Covent Gardens) just 3 weeks before Christmas.

Previously I had worked in many pubs in London over Christmas and loved the atmosphere, especially the Irish pubs but this one....shock HORROR CLOSED for a WEEK.

All the staff went home for a week and i was on my own with anything that could be opened from a tin and put in a microwave.....Meatballs and Smash was my chrissy dinner.

At least I had a roof over my head.

Well lets say 2006 has been one of the worst years of my life, to top it off, at midday yesterday had to laugh
my aunty was about to stick the turkey in the oven, when white sparks came out of the oven and the oven has
officially died

Good job our neighbours were in to stick the turkey in their oven

I'm going through the same thing, although it wasn't xmas eve and we didn't have to pretend. It happened on the 19th after a nice day together, no arguments or anything so completely out of the blue. I know exactly how you're feeling lynx, i'm just sorry someone else is experiencing the same thing. Be strong though xx

We were hoping to keep Reece home for Xmas, but this was not meant to be, we had to take him into hossy at 2am this morning with yet another line infection. So xmas has been mostly spent in hossy and we will be back there early tomorrow morning. He is now settled and back on antibiotics, so xmas was not what we were hoping  this year as  we would have loved to keep him home for the duration, but  to see him smile again makes it all better..

x

How sad for you all, Maureen.Lets just hope the new year brings a little comfort to the little boys life.

On A personal note, Myself and my two children, went for our Indian 5 course Christmas dinner.................AND............I WALKED ON CRUTCHES FROM THE CAR INTO THE PLACE,and out again.

This is the first time for over two years I have been out of my chair, in public, my kids were so happy .

Then we spent the evening at our friends house, and I had to get up at 6AM, to go for my treatment on boxing day,my son has now gone off walking in Snowdonia,

I might just be able to go too, one day.

I split up with my ex just before last Xmas after we'd been together for nearly 8 years. With a whole year to put it in perspective the good news is that it doesn't seem as bad as it did at the time (the bad news is that it might take you a year to realise it).

But new opportunities will arise as a result - I probably wouldn't have started playing poker if we'd stayed together :) so
Be strong though xx
couldn't have put it any better (well, maybe without the kisses :) )

Heres a proper xmas nightmare !!

you remember on the "Usual sunday comps" thread, I said how i had to tidy the place up as my brother and my Dad and a few others were coming to mine boxing day after the Luton v Colchester match (the mugs are Luton town season ticket holders  LOL) ??

Well I didnt quite get everything done in time, so XMAS DAY night, and boxing day morning, I was rushing around like a blue arsed fly to get finished in time... finally got done and was all prepared when the phone rings.

"we are running late and wont get there in time to come round before the game, so we will come round afterwards"

Then I watch with amusement on sky as the goals start flowing ...

Colchester 1 - 0 up
2-0 up
3-0 up
4-0 up

Final score Colchester 4 - 1 Luton

I phone up to rip the piss out of them all .... and they were so pissed off with luton getting hammered, they went straight home after the footy LOLOLOLOL

So I have a nice tidy gaff ..... and i needn't have bloody bothered LOLOL

Ive got to go to theirs on New years day now :(

Put it on ice Dewi,

I hav'nt been up to Snowden, since as a 17 year old, me and my girlfriend, told her mum we were going to visit my aunt in Essex.

We then took my Escort car and with 'moonlighting' by Leo Sayer on the radio, set out for a weekend of bliss in north Wales. Our weekend of fumbling passion started with a night in a B&B in LLandudno, followed by a trip from Portmadoc-Festineog on the railway.

It ended abruptly with a car smash on the llwerst to bets-y-coad road, and a conviction (1st of many)for dangerous driving.

Ah happy days....................................hope I got all the place names right Dewi, it was a long time ago.

Thx for all the good wishes guys.

This year - trying very hard to bond with dingdells berns 'children' - all over the age of 18 but still children.......it's been a difficult few years with them coming to terms that their parents are divorcing- we have worked very hard persuading them that the breakup was nothing to do with me - (which it wasn't but they are looking for someone to blame and are angry)

I knew boxing day was doomed when one of his (normally very sweet daughters) cornered me in the kitchen and hissed: "If it wasn't for you............" and then proceeded to blame me for everything including the Iraq war .........guess its back to the drawing board then!

What was amazing was the transformation back into sweet little girl once she had finished, it was a real jeckyll and hyde moment!

So glad to be home! ;angel;

Tracey, at least u get the "Jeckyll and Hyde" - I just get one version form "our" sweet little daughter (The Evil One)

This year, she returned from Uni to join us at Christmas - but ate in one of the bedrooms because she didnt want to sit at the same table as "him".

Small price to pay though.

All in all a good Christmas on our standards! lol
