Title: Sky, NTL, Setanata?
Post by: Canuck on January 04, 2007, 03:25:48 PM
I have freeview right now, and though it is good, I want more channels

The shows I want are from America (CSI, Law and Order etc) as well as Sports from the UK as well as North America

Which would be better for the shows I want?
Which is better value?

Keep in mind that if I got Sky or NTL I would buy North American Sports Network which I believe comes with Setanta, ould someone confirm this?

Cheers

Bittorrent provides a superior viewing choice but your shows may be slightly lower quality than normal.

If you want lots of channels and cheap internet I would personally recommend Sky.

I recently changed to their Broadband which is essentially the same as BT but £20 cheaper.

So I don't mind paying £40 / month for Sky TV as much now. If you have any problems their customer service is excellent and Uk based!

Setanta is a subscription on top of Sky though, it's £15 pm I believe

lol..funny but not true :)..their customer service takes 30 minutes to get through to and they have a call centre in India  (in addition to the ones in the UK that are being run by an outsourcing company...you only get through to "proper" sky staff when a complaint has been escalated a long way up the line.

Having said that..SKY+ is rather tasty.

Sky Package With Sports, Variety mix (should give you all the stations that show CSI etc) and one other mix e.g news and events would cost you from about £34 from Sky & roughly around £37 from NTL (hard to compare as they don't bundle their packages in same way).

Up to £43.50 for full package from Sky, again NTL are probably about £45.

Setanta  is £15 per month i think through Sky which gives you 9 channels old firm tv etc. I think you can get NASN alone with NTL for £10.

Also Sky + is going for £99 worth it IMO (but hey i get it for feck all)

Next month in addition to free broadband we add line rental to our skytalk package which i think will be priced at about £9 pm as opposed to BT's £11.

HTH.

p.s we have around 10000 staff in various locations for call centres about 2 - 3000 outsourced (majority of which is also in UK) and it doesn't always take 30 minutes but no-one ever likes to say anything positive about SKy.

Sky is a better deal than NTL, I'm stuck with NTL though unfortunately as can't get Sky where I live.

We don't get Cable in the valleys where I live, I have however had Sky for 5+ years with not 1 single problem with them or their customer service.
The channel selection is outstanding (although we can't recieve them all in the valleys sigh) but BBCs watchdog was giving SKY+ a real slating at the back end of last year, problems with boxes, call centres etc.
I'd go for SKY if moving home and starting afresh though even if you do have to have a silly dish.

Sky Broadband helpline/customer service was excellent and they sounds cockney. Dealt with straight away I was very impressed.

Well Skys main call centre is in West Lothian (near India), if you ring Customer Services you will normally go there.
Skys service is normally good and to be honest Sky is miles infront of anyother digital services.

I have SKY+ which is superb and when i have had problems i have found that you sometimes get delays in calls being answered(possibly phoning in the evenings when there's less staff is a bad idea) but generally the help is fine and the installers engineers have always been fine as well.
Go for SKY+
