Title: win at live lose on the net Post by: 4dam on September 17, 2005, 06:17:34 PM hi all
just a quick one i play both live & net alot i have a bit of a prob iam doing very well live showing a good final table ratio 76% of all live games i enter with a top 3 finish 84% of that for the year. But on the net iam showing up as a very bad player i was wondering if anyone else was suffering with this or if you other players have had the same prob and how you changed it around. Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: Ironside on September 17, 2005, 06:20:20 PM if you are making 76% of all finals and 84% top 3 then your either on a very short run blip or playing extrmmely small events or telling an untruth
a very good player would expect to make the money in MTT about 20-35% of the time although once making the money they expect to go deep Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: redsimon on September 17, 2005, 06:21:59 PM hi all just a quick one i play both live & net alot i have a bit of a prob iam doing very well live showing a good final table ratio 76% of all live games i enter with a top 3 finish 84% of that for the year. If you really have that strike rate live, just play live! Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: Junior Senior on September 17, 2005, 06:25:03 PM thats incredible!! - whats the sample?, 3 events?
I have done very well so far this year live and consider myslef to be a much better live player than a net player. I have entered 102 live tourneys in 2005 making 21 finals.. thats 21% straike rate (however many of these tournaments have 100-200 runners.) - are you playing events with few runners or just having a good run? Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: 4dam on September 17, 2005, 06:29:39 PM i dont play against a strong field at all i play in alot of £10 & £5 rebuys in west yorkshire with only 40-60 runnerswhere if you play just tight you normally make the final table. when i play bigger tournies i dont any where as good i have only played 26 at £100 or over and never made the cash.
so i know iam not a great player just have a bit more savey then the players i am against in these weak fields i play. Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: Junior Senior on September 17, 2005, 06:32:03 PM you should stick t beating these guys! - build up your dough and gradually branch out and play more big events.
advice for online play?: - dont ask me, i am a cyber fish! ;D Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: 4dam on September 17, 2005, 06:35:36 PM cheers junior thats what iam trying to do but everytime i get some cash car goes wrong or house needs something you know how it is.
perfect example i won over a grand this week and i walk out of the casino last night and someone hit me car and i was thinking about using that for a bigger game. Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: AdamM on September 18, 2005, 09:01:30 AM 2004 was the same for me. it was my first year of live play and I made 10 finals out of 30 games. as a result of redundancy and a second child this year my bankroll got emptied and is still the same. I was constantly a losing / break even player online throughout that howle time. 1st fortnight I lost my job I made $2000 online but it soon swung vack downand I'd used too muich of the cash for bills to cope with the downswing. I have since improved and make a mopdest ammount online and what I've found is you have to treat it like a completely different game. There are plenty of players who do well both live and Online but I doubt they play the two games in the same way. Try a variety of games online (cash, MTT, STT, ladders/rounders) I found my online MTT is still not paying for me, though I persevere with satelittes to bigger freezeout games ($250+) because I feel sure sooner or later I'm going to have a few decent paydays with them. for me it's Ladders that are proving most profitable but I play them nothing at all like my live style.
Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: M3boy on September 18, 2005, 09:16:40 AM Since playing live (mostly £100 and over buy in MTT's), my online game has gone to pot - I am break even/small profit online where I used to make F/T more often than not.
My live game however is very profitable. I know that both need to be approached in a different way, but still find it hard to do even though I know they should be played different. This used to bother me, but as I enjoy live more and more, I do not let the online game affect my live game. I posted something similar to this somewhere to ask how many players do well both live and online. I remember Mark Bannin telling me he was the same, either doing well online and bad live or visa versa. Bottom line for me is - as long as I a doing well in one of them, I dont let it bother me too much. Since playing live, I also now find it hard to keep concentration online and tend to make a huge mistake and blow my stack when into the money. Hope this helps Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: dan on September 18, 2005, 11:11:30 AM i seem to do better online ive won quite alot online but not so live. i put it down to that i first started playing online and got used to it. i then started playing live and found that i was quite tight. but i only play live probably twice a month at most.

I think Mr RED-DOG's ya man... 8) Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: RED-DOG on September 18, 2005, 02:40:24 PM IMHO you have to adjust your game for online/live play
Have a look at http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=1016.msg24157#msg24157 This is only my opinion and applies to multi table tourneys Good luck Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: snoopy1239 on September 18, 2005, 02:48:02 PM I'm making a steady amount on line at the moment playing cash games, and I often wonder if it will last.
Will every1 catch up? Will my steady profit decrease? Will the increase in numbers make my profit more difficult to obtain and more reliant on luck? These questions will always be striking fear in the back of my mind. However, one thing that's for sure is that there will always be people tilting. So will it last? I think so... Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: The Baron on September 18, 2005, 03:27:46 PM I really believe that you have to adjust your game for online/live swap overs. I never seem to have good form at both at the same time. Well my results say very rarely anyway.
Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: TightEnd on September 18, 2005, 03:39:22 PM I have infinite patience live, never tilt, great temperament, good concentration
Online (whether because there are distractions?) I'm not as patient and I get riled up more How do I get the dicipline in my online game that I have live? If I knew the answer to that..... Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: Maroon on September 18, 2005, 03:50:52 PM I started playing online first. I struggle with live. I think I play too tight live and I need to play a little looser than I do. Online I find it easier to bully a table but live rebuys just seem to clam me up.
Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: M3boy on September 18, 2005, 03:59:40 PM Paul/M3Boy...I notice that on Friday night mate!! Lol m8 If what happened friday night, happened online, id be fuming!!!! But live, it doesnt bother me. Final 6 and i am 2nd in chips with 26k. C/L had 48k, SS had 7.5k and the rest had 20k ish I was BB, SB was c/l. Blinds were 1k and 2k. Folded round to SB who made it 5k to play. I looked down and find AK. Now I though about flat calling, and pushing all in regardless of the flop, but decided to take the pot there and then by pushing all in for 24k. To my suprise he called VERY quickly, so I thought I was 50 50 against his big pair. But no, he turns over A 10 o/s!! Needless to say he hit the 10 on the river. Was good to meet you though :) Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: Royal Flush on September 18, 2005, 04:57:43 PM nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
bad beat stories are not done on Blonde paul!!!! However if you wish to discuss how to lose with AK Ironside is your man.... Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: wsopin07 on September 18, 2005, 05:02:53 PM I quit the net for 4 months and my live game went through the roof, I dont get real involved on the net, I just play.
When I play live I watch everyting, I get motivated by the people around me, it is much more personal and much more competitive. I now play some comps for seats in bigger events on the net, basically because there is no good live poker in Florida where I live ;D It is alot easier for a chump to push the call button on the net when I put him allin, live he has to call and may look bad if it is the wrong move! Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: M3boy on September 18, 2005, 07:47:48 PM Again Flushie my friend, you must learn to read properly.
It was a point made to show the difference between reactions when you loose online compared to reactions when you loose live. :P Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: Ironside on September 18, 2005, 07:50:33 PM However if you wish to discuss how to lose with AK Ironside is your man.... if you want to learn how to beat a load of blonde fish ironside is your man Title: Re: win at live lose on the net Post by: Royal Flush on September 18, 2005, 08:23:05 PM Again Flushie my friend, you must learn to read properly. Agreed. I think not having to look like a moron if you make a bad call is an easy excuse for bad players/calls online. It also means adjusting how to play online sometimes, which if you have a good live game, you dont really want to do. |
