Title: Worst Poker Injury
Post by: brummieboy on January 06, 2007, 10:57:03 AM
Smacked my knee on my desk yesterday whilst playing poker and it's swolen up today and is a a wee bit sore.

Therefore thought i'd ask whats the worst poker injury anyone has suffered?

I hear Kev nearly choked on he's pie once when he won a hand, has there been anything worse than this?

Alternatively whats the most damage you've done from a poker related incident. eg Smashed Laptop/Monitor.

Ive wondered this. My guess at an answer is yes.
Sitting in the same position for 10+ hours must be bad, I try to walk around during the breaks.

Not really an injury but when I'm playing online I sit with my legs crossed and I always get aching knees. Sigh - I must be getting old!

glucoseamine sulphate should prevent that.

I read Danafish's profile and she describes the worst beat that she had ever inflicted on an opponent.

It was "six weeks in traction".  ;gobsmacked;

I reckon that might just be the winner

I dunno what glucoseamine sulphate is but I had pretty bad knees which after weeks of trying to sort them out came down to me having tight hamstrings which screwed up the ligaments atached to my knees. this is apparently quite common with people who sit down all day in an office or driving or whatever.

The answer is to stretch your hamstrings every day. Only takes a couple of minutes, I do the lying down stretches.

HTH

I saw Rumit 'The Cube' Somiaya at a table once with his arm in a sling. Not a poker injury as such, but I later found out that he'd fallen over a speed hump. That made me laugh.  :D

better just comment on this-  sitting cross legged can put the ligaments (and other soft tissues) under strain. The pain can be avoided by moving regularly and even better by not sitting cross legged. Even if you dont it is doubtful if you will need an operation by 40.

Glucosamine sulphate will not prevent posturally induced pain.  There is however growing evidence that it slows the onset of osteoarthritis which is related to more impact related "wear and tear". I take this daily( although it is a case of shutting the stable door etc as I am having yet another knee op at midday tommorw)

Tight hamstrings can indeed be associated with knee pain ( and indeed back pain), however not normally with a cross legged posture.

I would be very wary of any forum/online/friend diagnosis (including mine) and would reccomend that you got an an appointment with a physiotherapist through your gp so that you can have a full assessment.

genius, that cheared me up no end.

Seriously, I have a pain in my arse right where I sit on my chair.

I did once have to ring the medical helpline after getting arm and shoulder pains but the nurse quickly worked out that was from playing Championship manager for about ten hours three days running.

thanks
