Title: O/T: Mrs Sheriff on TV - "Children Of Helen House" Post by: Sheriff Fatman on January 08, 2007, 05:14:40 PM A lot of you have met my
From tomorrow, for the next 8 weeks, the BBC are showing a documentary (Tuesdays, BBC2, 10pm) about the work of Helen House. This is just a heads up to anyone who is interested in watching it as I know that she has mentioned it to a few of you in the past. I believe that the focus of each episode will be on a different patient/family (and that it'll undoubtedly be fairly emotional viewing at times) but I think its good that the work done by places such as Helen House and their staff get a bit of recognition. Apparently (the staff were able to watch videos of the series in advance) Sophie only pops up in the background once or twice in the series so I doubt she'll become a Z-list reality-show celebrity anytime soon, but at least her '15 seconds of fame' will be for doing something worthwhile! I'm immensely proud of the fact that she, compared to me, does a job which 'means something' in the grand scheme of things and its always been a good way for me to keep things in perpective about my 'bad days at the office'. The Sunday Times did an article on the series yesterday. I've provided a link for anyone who's interested. I read the article and it was very moving. I will try to watch the series because it looks very interesting.
I would love a job where I am helping people, which is why I enjoyed caring for the elderly so much, I'm not sure if I would be a strong enough person to work in a childrens hospice though, those that do that amazing job should be praised. I spent alot of time recently visiting at a hospice and the care and attention from all the staff there was amazing, they treated my dad with the same respect, kindness and tenderness as if they were friends of his. They also made every visitor welcome, cups of tea and coffee a slice of cake, a chat if you were upset all just little things that make a big difference.
I personally could not do this line of work and as a result have an even higher respect for those that do. Title: Re: O/T: Mrs Sheriff on TV - "Children Of Helen House" Post by: Poppet7 on January 09, 2007, 10:06:30 PM Just to remind everyone it is starting now
