EPT Deauville
European Poker Tour regrets to announce the cancellation of the 2007 EPT French Open due to take place at Casino Barriere de Deauville between 20-24th February, 2007. A full statement will follow.

also they have announced another tournament in its place;

ANNOUNCING EPT WARSAW
EPT Warsaw has been added to the schedule for EPT3. The 15,000 Polish Zloty event (approximately €4,000) is from 14-17 March, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency. For full details, please click here.

Although this belongs in Live (or ex-Live?) Poker, I thought it so important as to warrant moving it to General Discussion. I hope everyone is OK with that.

The news about the addition of the Polish EPT is a few days old, but this Deauville news is a stunner.

Deauville is, or was, amongst my top 3 Favourite Venues worldwide.

How sad. Please note, I have not seen official verification of this news, , though I'm not doubting it.

...but I made one quick 'phone call to confirm, & yes, it's absolutely true.

For me, it's a train from Derby to St Pancras, then a train to Waterloo International, then a train to Paris, then a train across Paris, then a train to Deauville. You want details?........

Shame i liked this event.

I believe it's better to take the train. It's at least 10 hours of train. Each way!

That'll be event for next year.  EPT Walsall - doesn't get more exotic than that...

Why has the event been cancelled? I always liked the sound of playing in Deauville, sounds much better than Warsaw, Walsall etc

As soon as they got wind that Floppy had properly joined the updating team, they cancelled the event.

I think it's when they heard that MikkyT was unable to play this year, they decided there was little point in going ahead.

Best way to Deauville.
Drive to Newhaven (10 minute drive from Brighton) then a Transmanche ferry
to Dieppe. Takes 4 hours, then 1 hour drive to Deauville.

Where do you get the train?

This is an absolute disaster, had booked my flight, hotel and bought my ticket 2 days before this was announced. Not been to any of the others so cannot comment , but had a great time there last year and never heard a bad word said about it.

Lovely casino. Most boring town on earth.

Terrible shame.

My joint favourite venue with Amsterdam. Hope they can sort something out for the future.

Why was the news so late? Luckily I hadn't booked anything but sympathy to anyone who has lost financially.

Possibly the most beautiful town I've ever visited.

Scenery stunning, buildings impressive, restaurants top notch and the hotel where the tournament is held is quite simply the best I've ever stayed in.

And an awesome train journey from Paris.

It looks great but there is not much in the way of night life is there?

I'd imagine that if there were two people most looking for different things from a town, it would be Dubai and The Camel.

just cancelled my hotel & no cost was incurred....
fortunately i was grabbing a lift in steve & xuyen's moter, so no defecit there either.... ;whistle;

i have some friends in poland i havent seen in over 10 years

spent a night in a ford fiesta on the banks of loch ness with 3 lovely polish ladies

might have to try and win a seat in the new event to meet up with some old friends

I wonder how many times so far John Duthie has been asked why Deauville is cancelled.

OFFICIAL NOTICE

The European Poker Tour (EPT) regrets to announce that the 2007
French Open poker tournament due to be held at Casino Barrière de
Deauville from 20-24th February, 2007, has been cancelled.

This is as a direct result of last-minute intervention by the
French authorities making it impossible for the Lucien Barrière group to
run a poker tournament on their premises in Deauville.

We sincerely apologise to all players due to attend the event, but
unfortunately these circumstances were beyond our control. We will be
appealing against this decision to the highest authority and will 
advise of any developments.
