Title: Vegas Tournaments?
Post by: ifm on January 12, 2007, 02:01:35 PM
HOLLA!!!!

I'm off to Vegas (AAYYYAARR!!) on Wednesday for the Ricky Hatton fight, spending 6 nights at Circus Circus and seeing as it's my first trip to Vegas (AAYYYAARR!!) i know nothing about the place.
There was a tourny guide on here a while back but i can't find it (and it may not be current anyway), soooooo anyone wanna give me some idea of where to go/what to see, in fact anything at all about Vegas (AAYYYAARR!!) it will be greatly appreciated.

:D :D :D :D :D

No place like it m8 - Seriously you will love it!!

As for what to do? Pokerwise, easy money to be made at cash games also get comped for food and drink!

Tournie wise, I believe The Wynn has a nice f/o on daily - good structure

Shop around though, so so much choice.

As for site seeing, you just have to stand outside the Fontana Bar at The Belagio and watch the fountain display. Also the top of the Rio gives you a great view. (Cant remember the name of the Bar)

Taxi Tip - only use small bills and make sure you say what the bill is BEFORE you hand it over - found plenty that will rip you off if you give them a large bill.

Ive only been once though so I am sure many others will give you more suggestions.

Have fun over there, I think you come back the day I fly out, and I was going to offer to buy a blue-nose a drink as well.

I think the week your out there the adult expo is on, apparantly all the major xxx stars will be there. Might be worth a look.

Keep us updated with regards to the poker so i've got an idea for when I'm out there.

If my Wynn Poker Room thing isn't out of date, then they do a $300+$30 tournament with $3k guaranteed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at noon. 3k chips and 45 minute levels, on Friday at noon, it's a $500+$40 tournament with $5k gtd. Same structure.

Go the Bellagio in the morning and SNG your way into their afternoon tourney.  After you win your seat go to Noodles in the Bellagio for lunch, great Chinese food and reasonably priced.

The Voodoo lounge at the Rio is an absolute must, best bar in the world IMO.

Go to any cardroom and pick up an issue of Cardplayer. All daily tournys are listed in the back. The bigger tournys have 1 table satellites earlier in the day.

For an inexpensive show, try one of the comedy club shows , at a couple of casinos (forgot names) its about $30 and a great  night.

If you are awake on Sunday afternoon, you must go to REHAB at the Hard Rock Casino, starts 12pm. Its like a massive MTV party where everyones drinking, dancing and partying all day long by 2 lagoon shaped swimming pools(another must) I think its about $40.

If you want to try and get to the weigh in of the fight, you will have to go v early, maybe need ticket too.

If you do feel like going to a show, which you should, there is a discount ticket booth located on the strip, looks like a giant Coca Cola bottle, upto 50% off .

The hotel will probably have Show guide etc magazine in room ,worth reading.

Theres really only 1 hotel down town of any quality, the G Nugget, but take a look in Binions just for the history. Theres a free light show over freemont st at about 10pm every night, worth seeing once.

For eating, the Buffets anywhere are the best value for money without a doubt, the choice is endless. cost on average $30 - $40.

Shopping, The best value for money without doubt. Premium Outlets located close to downtown, ask any taxi. The cheapest in designer goods. another must see.

DO NOT use your mobile over there, about £5 a min. Its worth going to a 7 11 and buying an american one for about $40.
U will need one as it can be manic when a big fights in town and easy to lose ur mates. calls cost about 10c a min on those.

Have a great time mate

A big fight in Vegas is a better atmosphere than Madison SQ Gardens in my opinion too.
Hope he fight Mayweather in the future, Id go to that

The Voodoo Lounge is tops but can be a little annoying when they start sectioning off certain bits of it at night time.

A similar bar is the Ghost Bar in the palms. (Where there are glass tiles in the floor so you can look 55 floors to the ground under your feet!) I hear the Mandalay Bay has another rooftop bar as well.

Do the touristy stuff, the fountains, the Venice canals etc if only once.

Also.... cough, Seamless, cough!

Nice one Mugly, at last someone going to Vegas who wont let me down ... GO TO THE PALMS AND GET PICS OF THE VALETS IN PVC !!!   And Crazy Horse is better than Spearmint Rhino.

Circus Circus is a bit of a shed, but it has the best steak restuarant in town, you will prob have to book in advance, but its well worth it.

The round bar in the rio is great for a few bevvies before heading up to the voodoo lounge ... If you see the girl sitting with Ash in this pic, send her my love :)

I doubt you will get much poker played while you are there, there will be too much to see and do, and too much bevvy to be consumed.

So to sum up ...

Palms (PVC wearing valets)
Steak restuarant in Circus Circus
Crazy Horse
Round bar

Oh yes. $10 to get in and then when you get there every seat is roped off and you have to stand up.

Without the view the Voodoo Lounge would be just like any other overpriced poncey bar.

But the view is worth the $10.

Quick questions regarding money, is it best to change to dollars over here or there?
Also can i not just withdraw money via cashpoint in vegas/New York?
What about exchange rates etc, i can get $1.82 over here.

Yes, exchange you initial lump over here and then add to it by withdrawing from ATM machines over there.  The ATM's give a very good rate.

Title: Re: Vegas Tournaments?
Post by: Heid on January 16, 2007, 07:45:05 PM
Get a cab from the airport, tell them NOT to take the tunnel (or you will pay much more than you need for your journey). Don't get a shuttle buss, you are far enough North on the strip so they will drop off everywhere before you get to your hotel and it will take ages.

If they try and stick you in a manor room at CC tell em to sod off.

Do NOT use the ATM's in the casino.. they charge a % of the cash you withdraw.. read the small print carefully. Just across the road from CC is a strip of shops, you will find an ATM there.

Fremont Street lightshow runs from 6pm - midnight.

As someone has mentioned, don't go off strip, and if you go downtown, stay under the canopy.

Eat late night, and you won't pay so much for specials. Go for the graveyard specials.

As you sre staying at CC (LOL!), try out the Sahara card room, nice tourneys, lots of tourists.

After the big fight, either go eat, or go to another casino to get a cab - the lines will be jammed and you don't want to stand around in a line for an hour to get anywhere.

Take comfy shoes, and lip balm.

Enjoy!

http://www.allvegaspoker.com/tournaments.php is a great guide to all tourneys, juice, percentages paid etc.

Best game we found was at MGM 2/5 cash with soft play and willing fish but I have been told venetian cash game also very good.

DEFINITELY go to the Anthony Cools adult hypnotism show in Paris. The funniest thing I have seen ever  rotflmfao I really thought I was going to hate it - I have never laughed so much in all my life. Get there early - its free seating except for first few rows which are for VIP's and you want to get near the front if you can. Doesn't start until mid evening. Cannot recommend this one enough and the tickets are not too expensive.

Get the guide given out in the taxis - we used it to play all the shows. Avoid David Copperfield - it is not possible to teleport yourself to Australia and have us see it on a screen in the theatre - it is obviously pre-recoreded but the audience really went for it.  :dontask:

Another great show is Lance Burton (magic show) - book early to get good seats.

But whatever you do GO AND SEE ANTHONY COOLS AT PARIS

the Monte carlo Mini brewery is good for a piss up, order yourself a 5 litre 'giraffe' of beer with your own tap.
