Title: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: Woodsey on September 19, 2005, 05:59:16 PM I thought it would be interesting to find out how much people made/lost in the last year. If other people will do it as well I would be happy to publish my results here, what does everyone think? if there is enough interest it will put my results here first!

Lost? Too much. Real answer: Somewhere inbetween :D Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: -bw- on September 19, 2005, 07:01:59 PM I'd be interested in this, I only recently started to keep records
and got pokertracker, the news was not what I was expecting although I now know what game and which level I should be playing Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: nicehair82 on September 19, 2005, 07:08:51 PM would say ive been playin 5 - 6 months on line so would say overall probably 2 - 300 down but jus as im starting out and learning the game dont think its 2 bad. Had best results ive had the other which was a 10 pound multi with 83 in and came 3rd which paid 99. Last 2 month or so i have seen lot of improvement in game which has been down 2 lot or reading and reasearching on places like here . Starting to come 1 and 2nd regular in single low end tournes now and would say now starting 2 turn bit of a profit and reward for my hard work and hours of play.

Post by: The Truth on September 19, 2005, 07:29:50 PM how does one quantify the wonderful friends I have made and the enjoyable times I have had? would you ask a golfer the same question? if you think mine is the answer of a loser, well so be it.
Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: Longy on September 19, 2005, 07:39:22 PM Started keeping online records in June i think my records show im approaching the 4k mark in profits online, $3889 to be precise which i am quite proud of. It is proving a very good 2nd income, i must admit to being a cash game specialist now and playing just about every spare moment i get.
Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: Sunday8pm on September 19, 2005, 07:48:09 PM £4540 in profit since Jan 19th
dont know where its all gone!!! a bit disapointng seeing as around May it was in the £11k region :( Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: Woodsey on September 19, 2005, 07:50:26 PM Ok I sense some reluctance from a few people so I will give my top line records without giving full details.
Overall since Jan this year I have made $11,900. Most profit comes from playing live at Notts I have lost money playing online MTTs and limit hold'em I have made a small profit from online SNGs I have found it very useful exercise doing this because it has made me realise I do play differently live than online and am now currently rectifying my game. Oh and by the way I record my play using pokercharts.com which is easy because I am useless at spreadsheets! It would be nice to hear some ballpark figures from some of the pros and big winners out there Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: The Truth on September 19, 2005, 08:15:40 PM fight, fight ,fight ...... BUNDLE.
exactly why I dislike this question when applied to what is essentially a game. I repeat would you ask a golfer the same question?? Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: Woodsey on September 19, 2005, 08:20:34 PM No probs. I understand some people don't like answering these sorts of questions, its just quite interesting to hear how other people have done. However I think real respect will go to anyone who admits to a loss, because I don't know any losing players, does anyone else!

Lol Truthy - its just "friendly" banter between me and James :) Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: M3boy on September 19, 2005, 08:34:06 PM Your right Davey, i am going to remove my post as some members who post on here dont quite understand what Blonde is about. Funny though Paul i was under the impression you were down a lot this year before Luton.... OK James , deleted my post as well. Online I was down $4000 since January, but things have picked up a little (not much i will admit, but at least they are heading in the right direction). Offline was up quite a bit BEFORE UK Open. Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: The Truth on September 19, 2005, 08:43:15 PM Sorry guys don't want to spoil your fun, both of you are good mates of mine. Right? but I do wish people would accept poker as a bona fide pastime that is enjoyable and fun. For sure some will earn out of their pasttime but most will spend a little in providing their lesiure activity. If it were golf which as a pastime costs thousands a year to partake in nobody would bat an eyelid.
four years ago I made more from poker than my civil service job, three years ago I spent as much on my hobby as a serious modeller or golfer or motorist since then I have needed this hobby to pay my bills. I in hindsight would have it no other way however it aint been easy as M3Boy my accountant and Royal Flush as my confidant can testify! Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: M3boy on September 19, 2005, 08:48:34 PM James, I do hope it is still "friendly" banter between us? (ie winding each other up)
Hopefully I have not offended you in anyway, but I did learn from the "wind up" master (namely you!) ;) Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: Ginger on September 19, 2005, 08:57:01 PM Davey I can't agree more and poker is mainly just a hobby for me, although it has provided me with a boost for my student income the last 6 months, other than that I have "earnt" a new leather suite, a large tropical fish tank (rather apt i thought) MOT, tax and insurance for my car ( plus a new EPU that blew on it just 2 weeks ago, £400 ouch!!) 2 holidays and redecorating the living room, bathroom and 2 bedrooms!!!
All of that was started with a $30 deposit, Think it may be time to start keeping proper records lol Jane xx Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: The Truth on September 19, 2005, 08:59:28 PM The tropical fish tank? Is James really called Jaime?

Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: snoopy1239 on September 19, 2005, 09:51:02 PM I've made steady progress this year. No one area seems to be more profitable than t'other. I guess I'm one of the guys who is doing fair on both.
Kudos to those who confess to a loss. If you can take that step and manage to avoid self-delusion, then you're one step ahead of many. Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: ShotOfTheDaySoFar on September 19, 2005, 11:04:09 PM Kind of related to this original question - would be interested to know how people keep track, or don't, of their wins/losses...
When I started playing regularly (ie a lot) online a year ago or so, I kept records on pokercharts.com. Interesting for a while and it taught me something about win rates in different games. That was great when I was winning - problem was that I started getting a bit too obsessed about the minutiae of my results. I'd made about $3000 in 3 months - but then dumped $2000 back in the next two months. I was playing horribly, and I think that having that detailed focus on my results made me tilt even worse. I've now given up keeping these results - I just know how much I've got in each account, and have short-term targets to get my balance through $800 or $1000 or whatever. That seems to give me a positive goal but doesn't make me worry too much about my hourly rate and other such nonsense. Seems to work for me. Anyone else..? Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: Coca919 on September 19, 2005, 11:33:11 PM This year so far I've made around £23k. This was all made over a period of a few months when I thought I was "Invincible" at the $20/40 LHE cash tables on Betfair. Seriously every session was a winning session. I was definately running hot but hey I must have been doing something right. This topped off with a few BIG pots in omaha stakes I probably shouldn't have been playing (a $7.5k and a $4.5k pot) and a £3k cash for 3rd in the Sunday30k meant my poker balance shot up extremely fast. At 1 point I was up about £30k for the year but since now losing 3 months on the trot I've given £7k of it back. I'm now losing terribly at Limit and the only reason my poker balance is surviving is through Omaha, Stt's and 6pak's. Time to start caning the Limit tables again I think.
All in all for a student I can't complain. ;D Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: Longy on September 20, 2005, 02:52:02 AM Software wise i use to just keep me up to date with pure winnings and losses i use the limited poker analyst on cardplayer, its not great but free and tells me how im doing roughly. Poker tracker which i purchased recently tho is a poker geeks dream, tells you everything you would possibly want to know and loads else otherwise. The great thing i think is that once you get used to the stats, you can read an opponent very easily. Simply as he raises you can type his name and poker tracker will tell you how often he raises and often what with. Was on laddies the other day and a guy raised from ep do my thing as i held pocket jacks and wanted a read. He had never raised pf in 150 hands i had on him, i folded quickly. Someone else called him down and he turned over aces, nice!
Erm yeah im rambling but the only criticism i have is that it doesn't cover all site ie sporting odds where i find the nl cash games very soft, isn't compatiable with pt. Worth the money in my opinion tho Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: MrMoves on September 20, 2005, 08:36:04 AM Interesting thread.
The last 12 months I'm ahead roughly £26k. Almost half of that from online cash games. The remaining split between online and offline tournaments. I've fritted almost all of it away though on cars and holidays and gadgets :-\ Right now I'm trying to take around $200 a day online from cash games, have been for a few weeks. Start with a $200 bank, try to double it, if I lose then I start again the next day. Helps me focus on one goal and the stop loss is useful for not chasing down bad beats. Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: Maroon on September 20, 2005, 09:03:47 AM MrMoves, what size game you playing your $200 in?
Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: yt on September 20, 2005, 10:52:34 AM This year sept 04 - Aug 05 = -£282.22
Last year sept 03 - Aug 04 = +£2350.82 I don't have a problem posting a loss on here. It's honest! As a hobby it's more for entertainment anyway, err right, guys? I read some posts here from people who don't keep records.... are you mad? You have to know how you are doing even if it's bad news. Here's to the next twelve months! Post by: matt674 on September 20, 2005, 01:05:17 PM there is a site that keeps records of multi table tournament results for tournaments on pokerstars for those who dont keep records.
www.thepokerdb.com upto now it features every tournament from 17th dec 2004 onwards but the person who keeps it updated is currently working on 2004's results. They are also seeing if they can incorporate a program that allows the recording of sit and go tournaments into the same database. I find it a useful tool to look at my opponents results when i find them at the same table as myself during a tournament. Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: MrMoves on September 20, 2005, 01:05:30 PM MrMoves, what size game you playing your $200 in? Nothing really huge. Mostly 1/2 NLHE or 2/4 NLHE, sometime 5/10 LHE. Occasionally have a crack at Pot Limit Omaha if I'm on William Hill. Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Useful but incomplete as you don't know if opponent has won that much because he plays 24 tournies a day.... Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: yt on September 20, 2005, 02:47:42 PM I find it a useful tool to look at my opponents results when i find them at the same table as myself during a tournament. As I'm sure they do when playing you - $107,192 since 2nd may 04, total final tables 59 - Well done! (mind you as redsimon just posted how many did you play a day?)Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: matt674 on September 20, 2005, 03:14:36 PM Thanks yt, thats just for this year with the results of the sunday $200 and $500 tournies from last year - and yes redsimon while the database just shows winnings rather than profit it can be useful to players who havent kept any records at all. it at least shows them which tournaments they are more prolific at cashing in, what buy-in level, how many runners in the tourney, without having to invest fortunes in various software tracking programs.
Title: Re: How much have you made/lost in the last year? Post by: redsimon on September 20, 2005, 07:51:47 PM nice record matt..I as you no doubt have seen have 4 cashes on the database. In my defence thats from 22 entries and shows a ROI of nearly 200% :D
In fact MTTs this year have been subsidising my appaling run in SNGs |
