Title: one for the techies - TV remote Post by: Claw75 on January 14, 2007, 05:33:26 PM Just bought a new LG TV and the remote (although working - buttons lighting up etc) isn't controlling the TV. It's a programmable remote, so I'm presuming it needs recoding. I've had a quick search on the net to see if I can find the right code, but no joy. Does anyone know of any websites that will have the code I need?
cheers Title: Re: one for the techies - TV remote Post by: Tractor on January 14, 2007, 05:39:09 PM If its a new tv im sure the remote should not need programing, normally you can program them to work dvd etc.
Multi remotes need to be in the right mode to work each device - so check it sin tv mode. Sorry cant help any more. Title: Re: one for the techies - TV remote Post by: Geo the Sarge on January 14, 2007, 05:53:29 PM Tried this Claw?

ps I ve just started watching the first series of 24. Title: Re: one for the techies - TV remote Post by: kinboshi on January 14, 2007, 07:56:41 PM Yep, it sounds like you've got the wrong remote. Never heard of one you have to program when it comes with the telly.
As for programmable ones, there are loads about - have a look in your Argos catalogue. One4all (or whatever they're called) are the market leaders and there are loads of different remotes, including some rather expensive ones at the top of the range which are touch-screen things that can do everything including make you a cup of tea and run the bath for you. Go back to the shop, and tell them they've given you the wrong remote. Even if you got a discount, you were under the impression you were getting a fully functioning TV. Without the remote, you won't have access to all the functions. If they can't find the correct remote, get them to source one for you, or get them to give you £100 back. Title: Re: one for the techies - TV remote Post by: Tractor on January 14, 2007, 08:03:45 PM Chances are a one for all or programable remote wont do all the functions you need.
As you will have to set up and tune in the tv. Go back to the shop and get the right remote, theve just obviously found any old remote to get you out of the shop. Or if it did fall of that lorry then search for "genuine replacement remote controls" with the make and model of your new tv. Genuine replacements cost lots of $$$ though :( Title: Re: one for the techies - TV remote Post by: kinboshi on January 14, 2007, 08:05:51 PM Was the remote damaged when it fell off the back of the lorry? rotflmfao Title: Re: one for the techies - TV remote Post by: I KNOW IT on January 14, 2007, 08:27:07 PM This looks like a common problem with LG

Kinboshi - we didn't get any discount - even more reason to expect it all to work! It's definitely the right remote though. Title: Re: one for the techies - TV remote Post by: Tractor on January 14, 2007, 08:55:50 PM It could actually be the Tv that is faulty and not the remote then.
You can try putting the remote next to a radio, set on mw or lw(try both), turn up the volume and then hold the remote close to the radio. Press down the remote buttons and you should here a pulsing noise. This will show if the remote is transmitting. No noise means remote faulty/pulsing noise means tv is faulty. That's what I was thinking. If the remote doesn't work, take the whole thing back and get a full refund. They've sold you something that is not of merchandisable quality. Title: Re: one for the techies - TV remote Post by: I KNOW IT on January 14, 2007, 09:13:48 PM Strange that link doesnt work, what it basically said was a lot of people having problems with LG and their customer service is crap.
still searching though Title: Re: one for the techies - TV remote Post by: Claw75 on January 14, 2007, 10:01:33 PM I'll ring their customer services when it's open again in the morning.
I take the point about getting a discount on the display model. We did ask and were refused, but to be honest it was a very good price anyway (as it's an older model), and we got a good deal with a stand and a home cinema system at a good price, so I was happy with what I paid for it, which is the main thing. If it doesn't work properly though, you are entitled to a full refund for the television - irrepsective of whether or not they gave you a good deal on the other stuff. You might be able to live without a fully functioning telly/remote now, but it'll become an issue down the line. Title: Re: one for the techies - TV remote Post by: ACE2M on January 15, 2007, 10:10:32 AM just in case, we have a remote with 'tv' and 'vcr' seperate buttons to switch between the two. if there is a tv button, try pressing it.
spent a fair amount of time shaking our remote thinking it was knackered so worth mentioning just in case. |
