Jailed Over £250,000 Scam
Updated: 15:01, Monday January 15, 2007

One man has been jailed for nine months for his part in a casino scam that is believed to have netted more than £250,000.

Southwark Crown Court jailed Yau Yiu Lam. Bit Chai Wong and Fan Leung Tsang were given nine month sentences - both suspended for two years.

They will each serve 150 hours community service and will have to pay fines totallling £5,545.

The scam came to light after the Met Police's Gaming Unit was called by a casino which became suspicious about one of the players.

It emerged that Tsang, Lam and Wong were working as a team and were using complicated surveillance equipment.

As Wong played three-card poker with one of the men, micro-cameras were used to beam pictures to a computer monitor.

This monitor was viewed by the third person who told the players, who were wearing hidden earpieces, what to bet on.

Scotland Yard said it appeared the team was operating across the UK and the three are believed to have played in at least six London casinos, where they may have netted more than £250,000.

The gang was arrested after a pre-planned operation by police working alongside casino security staff.

Tsang, 41, of Paddington, Lam, 45, of Edgware, and Wong, 39, of Swiss Cottage - all north-west London - pleaded guilty on December 12 to one count each of cheating at gaming contrary to Sec 17 of the Gambling Act 1845.

its amazing isnt it. I watched worlds greatest gambling scams on challenge and the sam ehting happened but obviously way more money involved. The joke is he cheated around 2 million quid but only had to serve 6 months and pay a $10,000 fine. So.....

$2,000,000- $10,000+ 6 months jail= laughing all the way to the f*cking bank!

It is providing he has managed to hide away his money.  Most of the time the assets are frozen upon the arrest, so unless one manges to filter the money so that can't ba traced easily- one will end up with -$2,000,000-$10,000+ 6 months in jail = -E.V

The art is not to be caught, not to be greedy.   Most of those scammers are caught because of greed.
