Title: Sat Nav's Which one?
Post by: The_nun on January 15, 2007, 04:26:20 PM
We have decided that we will probably benefit by having one of these, it will cut down on Old Man Driving syndrome, which Mr Nun seems to have acquired, and with my win this week i have promised him one. He is looking at the TomTom910, which i notice is in the upper price range, do the benefits outweigh the cost.?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated...

Maureen. I bought the cheapest Tom Tom and it's excellent, Mrs Red and I both love it. omho the extra bits and bobs on the more expensive models are not worth the money, + they are bulkier and more difficult to hide when you leave the car.

This lists top 15 selling in car sat navs. I personally went for a Garmin nuvi 350, they excel in gps naviagation. I dunno but for me Tom Toms are like the Nokia of the phone world. Popular but not great.

ps. you heading to Leeds this week?

I dunno but for me Tom Toms are like the Nokia of the phone world. Popular but not great.

That's exactly how I describe them to people.  They work straight out of the box, the menus and general use is intuitive - even for my folks.

Others might do something 'extra', but if you want something that allows you to text and make calls on the go (that doesn't go wrong, has a decent battery life, is fairly robust, etc.) - get a Nokia.  If you need help getting from A to B, and want something that just 'works' - get a TomTom. As TomTom Tom said, if it's just to point you in the right direction, just get the TomTom One.  Does the job perfectly adequately, and is easier to put in your handbag (well I find it is anyway) than the bulkier 'better' models.  It's also a damn site cheaper.

If you want added features, go for something more expensive.  But I'd guess the One would be the one.

Buy a TomTom Maureen - easy to use, does the job for driving around the UK or you can upgrade to a UK and Europe.

;iagree; I had one of the higher models (now some some little grubby fingered ******* is driving around with it in Warlingham) and replaced it with a TomTom One, can't beat it, and I prefer it to the higher model.

I've got a TOM TOM 510.  Granted it is slightly bulkier than the GO version but I love it.  Very easy to use and has the added bonus of bluetoothing your phone to it so you can read your text messages as you drive along. You cant reply to texts but why would you want to if you are driving?  Also if you buy a separate microphone, it is totally a hands free kit.

Granted is not neccessay in terms of getting somewhere but a bonus.  The acutal navigation is great, never sent me somewhere else and knowing your exact journey length and arrival time are wicked.

I'm in the Tom Tom group too.  The missus has one and loves it, really easy to use and it gets you to where you want to go.  We don't really have a need for all the other fancy stuff.

Had a PDA but ended up jumping on it as had more arguments with it than the missus. Just bought a bog standard Tom Tom and it does the job and been worth buying already.

The missus has Sean Connery's voice on hers (not really him, but a soundalike).
