Title: Free music downloading Post by: smithy69 on January 17, 2007, 08:38:08 PM My missus was bought a MP3 for christmas and wants to learn how to use a computer and start downloading music.
I have found a site called Blubster for her, but not sure if this is decent. Can anyone offer some advice on free download sites Title: Re: Free music downloading Post by: danafish on January 17, 2007, 08:40:56 PM Limewire!
Title: Re: Free music downloading Post by: Nem on January 17, 2007, 08:57:16 PM eMule
mininova torentspy Limewire = is only good for single tunes on their own. Title: Re: Free music downloading Post by: FlyingPig on January 17, 2007, 09:12:55 PM I use MIRC together with Autoget, this is excellent. A bit tricky at first, but no virusses', and most importantly no audit trail....
Title: Re: Free music downloading Post by: Bongo on January 17, 2007, 09:38:02 PM TBH as long as you have a wireless access point i imagine you'd be fine in court.
Just plead ignorance and see how they try and prove that it wasn't someone else hijacking your connection... Your connection, your responsibilty. a quick scan of your computer for mp3's may be a give away :D www.mp3.com has lots of legal free music. i have picked the songs, and inserted a blank cd and press START BURN but nothing happens whatsoever Title: Re: Free music downloading Post by: Ironside on January 18, 2007, 12:59:27 AM downloading copyrighted music for free is theft and IMHO should be treated the same way as if the thief had broken into the artists house and stolen money out f there safe
Title: Re: Free music downloading Post by: Bongo on January 18, 2007, 01:43:06 AM The big difference though is by breaking into the artists house and taking money they lose money.
By downloading a song they lose nothing, unless you assume that every download is a lost sale - even then it's more of a failure to gain. Title: Re: Free music downloading Post by: Ironside on January 18, 2007, 02:02:46 AM music theft is a huge crime because it not only robs the artists of a sale but it also robs promising artists of a chance of a record deal
Title: Re: Free music downloading Post by: Bongo on January 18, 2007, 02:16:29 AM But the filesharing culture opens up so many more options for unheard of bands to promote themselves, and still offers plenty of chance to make money. The people with most to suffer are the big labels, and I have very little sympathy for them. They've treated consumers and they brought it all on themselves...
This song from a favourite artist of mine kind of explains: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Co8c246U4nw Title: Re: Free music downloading Post by: RED-DOG on January 18, 2007, 02:37:44 AM Groovy!

i do ssually find that, because my taste in music isn't for the popular stuff, I'll still buy the CD...free downloads just give me a sample..or I just need one more song which makes me buy the entire album. Are you serial? Title: Re: Free music downloading Post by: action man on January 18, 2007, 11:05:42 AM Limewire for singles
torrentspy for albums Title: Re: Free music downloading Post by: AndrewT on January 18, 2007, 11:15:46 AM music theft is a huge crime because it not only robs the artists of a sale but it also robs promising artists of a chance of a record deal There are quite a few acts whose music I have downloaded off the internet for free. I've liked what I've heard and have then become a fan of them and gone out and bought subsequent or previous albums. Without downloading the original music I may never have got into the act and spent money on them. In fact, it could be argued that it will now become more common for acts to get record deals precisely because people have been downloading their music for free, liking it, and telling others about it, thus alerting the big companies to their presence. Title: Re: Free music downloading Post by: Bongo on January 18, 2007, 01:56:02 PM I agree with that, since I discovered Napster by CD collection has grown massively. Most of it isn't put out by the majors however...
Title: Re: Free music downloading Post by: thetank on January 18, 2007, 04:04:54 PM It's one of those crimes that's ok coz everyone does it.
I need to steal music, becasue if I payed for it, I wouldn't have enough left over for cannabis. Title: Re: Free music downloading Post by: technolog on January 18, 2007, 06:34:56 PM I take a sought of half way house approach to illegal downloading. I pay £9.95 a month to Napster which gives me the right to PLAY 99% of the music they host so long as it's just on my PC. Normally if you attempt to burn it to disc, Windows DRM thwarts you unless you pay for it. However, I've purchased a program called Replay Music which intercepts the music being sent to the sound card and converts it to an unprotected MP3 on the fly, which I can then use as and when I like.
Paying the £9.95 salves my conscience - and to be honest I don't download that much anyway. Title: Re: Free music downloading Post by: Bongo on January 19, 2007, 12:04:58 AM How about this article:
http://www.arancidamoeba.com/mrr/problemwithmusic.html I have more to say on this but I'm rather busy now so will have to return later.
