Hi Jen,

GREAT Update so far, must have been a bit difficult with so many online qualifuer & Scandie peeps, much respect to you & snoops. And thanks for looking out for Daniel (Kinboshi) who I think you'll agree is a credit to blonde, & to APAT.

Tonight it's "two's up" time, with parallel Live Updates on blonde from Copenhagen & Luton. Beats Blind Date surely?

Well done Jen and snoops

Must admit to not knowing many of these, Elky and Sjavik apart. So I'll go for those two!

I'll go for a top three of Magnus Petersson, Anders Wijk and Jan Sjavik (whom I picked Day One).

Going to go see what's going on in the TV room...

Morning, Sir...

Actually, it's been pretty good fun.  One small piece of help was totally invaluable, however - I've said it before and I'll say it again - getting a printed sheet of players organised by TABLE AND SEAT is the one thing which turns an update on a big field tourney from a Matey-filled vague thing to something more useful.  Anyone who wants live updaters to do a good job at their events (Grosvenor et al.)  - this will do the trick.

First hand - pretty much biggest pot of the tournament...

Magnus Petersson raised preflop (as you might do with Kc Kd) and found Anders Wijk making the all-in re-raise again...this time it was with Tc Ts and the Kings stayed nicely ahead, giving Magnus a stack of 840k+ right at the start of the day.  That must be a nice feeling.

With the blinds at 6k/12k ante 1k, Jan Sjavik's 120k or so wasn't looking too good - but he's just doubled up taking a gamble to get back in it...
Anders Wijk moved in with Ahrt Js (although we didn't know that at the time), and Jan Sjavik kind of shrugged and called all in, with 6s 6d.
Flop:  5d 9c 8d
Turn:  7h  ("six to split," says the helpful T.K.)
River:  Ks

So Anders Wijk in a bit of trouble chipwise now.

Double elimination!  And when I was down the hall!  It was all chugging along fine, and when I went back in they were hand for hand!
SO we've lost both Mark Secher Petersen and Erik Lindberg in one hand - Q-9 suited moved in (Petersen), over the top all-in from A-K (Lindberg) and wouldn't you know it, ElkY wakes up with Aspades Ahrt.

No help from the board, and we have a new chip leader (probably) in Bertrand Grospellier, while  Mark Secher Petersen and Erik Lindberg finish in 12th and 11th spots respectively, winning €24,114 each.

Jan Sjavik gets some chips -

Fold round (that doesn't take too long now they're five-handed) to his small blind, which he makes up.  Big blind Thomas Holm raises to what looks like 40-50k.  Jan performs the s.b. limp-reraise, prompting a frustrated countdown request from Holm and eventual release of his hand (Sjavik had around 170k more).  He even got a little round of applause.

:hello: Jen & Snoops

how was the DTD party?

I'm afraid we didn't make it due to exhaustion. We've had very little sleep this whole week due to updating both updating duties in Bolton and Copenhagen, so a party was just one step too far.

I don't think I would have survived!

Well, he won the Poker EM in 2006 (over €100k) as well as getting pipped to a bracelet in a WSOP event ($1,500 NL) and finalling at the Austrian Masters.  He's currently second in chips in this EPT Copenhagen Scandinavian Championships, and all through yesterday I thought he was wearing a bandanna when in fact it was a backwards baseball cap.  This made me instantly assume he was American, but he's apparently Hungarian.

That's all I know.

Down to the final Nine -

We've lost one, and it's Jan Sjavik (so close to another final)- he pushed in again (determined to double or bust, it looked like) with K-5 suited, but it was bust, in the end, when Thomas Holm's 7-7 not only stood up but hit.

That makes Jan Sjavik the 10th place finisher, for €30,606

There now follows an intermission while they set up the TV table (of course, the broadcast-y final will be eight-handed as per usual, but nine-handed finals are the only way to go).  Expect breaks periodically now as various technical things are sorted, and cross your fingers for us that the live feed from the table to the press room actually shows us the cards when they're on their backs...

Bit of an enigma this chap.

What I do know is that he is a young gun from Hungary who's currently sitting on a very menacing 695k stack.

To his right is the quiet and reserved, Magnus Peterson, running similarly well with 645k.

Unfortunately for us (no live feed), they have decided to place the final 9 on an outside table.

I do know a little about Theo Jorgensen, however, as he finalled in the French Open EPT in Deauville last year.

A loud and charismatic character, Theo is always good fun at the table. His distinctive bobble hat sets him apart from everyone else, but what I find incredible is the fact that although he looks like he's in his early 20s, he is in fact well into his thirties. Clearly uses Oil of Ulay... like me!

Over the last few years, Theo has enjoyed a flurry of decent cashes, including a six figure sum win in the European 7-Card Stud Championship, his final table finish in Deauville and, most recently, a victory at Football and Poker Legends shindig for a cool 50k.

And that unfortunate bubble boy was Canadian youngster Cole Morrow, who finished in 9th position.

Moving in with the respectable holding of A-T, Morrow ran into the Big Slick of Thomas Holm.

Although both spiked an Ace on the Flop, the A-K stood up come the River.

TV Time!

Word on the grapevine is that they will be redrawing for the final table, but the grapevine has been know to tell the odd porky or two.

We're also thinking that there may be a considerable pause before the final table starts - even though the stands are thronged (or, should I say, stand - not so much room for spectators at this one).  I'm getting a burger.

It's been very difficult to get near the tables today due to the crowd and the added press restriction implemented by security, but I'll see what I can do.

May I ask your name so I can pass on your good luck wishes if I see him?

Blinds will continue at 6k/12k ante 1k.

Thomas Kremser welcomes the audience to the final table and introduces the players, "Seat one, he is coming from Denmark, please give a round of applause for Thomas Holm..." etc. etc.

You lot already know the seat order and chip counts, so I'll just compare the enthusiasm for the players - Anders Wijk has loud supporters, as does Alexandre Poulain - looks like some French people might have materialised in the audience.   Obviously the home players Thomas Holm and Theo Jorgensen are popular too.

Shuffle up and deal!

Thomas Holm and Richard Toth see a flop (I think it was Ten-high).
Thomas bets 42k, Richard re-raises to 110k.  I bet we're in for a dwell... yes, but a call, only to pass when Richard moves in on the Ts (I think) turn.

Then:

Thomas Holm wins the next two pots.  He does look like his smile muscles don't get much of a workout - very serious at the table.

Magnus then takes the pot with a bet on the 2c Kh Qh Flop.

Another small pot, this time scooped up by Holm. After his pre-flop raise was smooth called by Toth, Holm forced to him to fold by betting the 4-K-9 rainbow Flop.

"So you didn't hit the Flop this time?" comments Holm sarcastically.

Alexandre Poulain, 31, from Paris, rode the poker rollercoaster on Day 2 of EPT3 Copenhagen - turning a tiny pile of chips into a final table stack. When Alexandre is not running his discount electronics store in Paris, he – like everyone in his family - is a keen online player with PokerStars. He is also a regular at the Aviation Club on the Champs Elysées which is where he won his first major tournament, picking up the Pot Limit Omaha title – and €25k - at the European Finals of Poker Masters last month. A huge football fan, he is wearing the French shirt for his final table appearance.

Anders Wijk is OUT and becomes the 8th place finisher winning DKK 373,248 (€50,083)

Moving in over the top of Richard Toth's pre-flop raise, the Swede was dismayed to hear Toth announce an instant call, and even more chagrined to witness his A-J be demolished by the Hungarian's Pocket Kings, the Turn bringing a third cowboy on a 7-5-6-K-x board.

A few words on the first final (well, last 8 anyhow) table exit of the day.

Anders turned professional three years ago and mainly plays cash games online. He only recently started tournament play but came 7th at the Nordic master of Poker in Sweden last April for €24,000. This is his third EPT this season – he fell just short of the money in Dublin, and went out in the first two hours in Baden. “I don’t think I have the skills for tournament play. I’ve been very lucky here.”

Title: Re: EPT Copenhagen - FINAL DAY - Interactive
Post by: Djinn on January 20, 2007, 04:47:14 PM

Richard Toth raises, and Theo Jorgensen moves in for 85k - Richard probably has to call - yes, he calls
Theo shows: A-K
Richard shows:  Q-T

Flop:  Ks 3d 4h
Turn:  Qd
River:  9c

Theo Jorgensen has doubled up to just under 200k.

Title: Re: EPT Copenhagen - FINAL DAY - Interactive
Post by: Djinn on January 20, 2007, 04:53:45 PM
Richard Toth makes another preflop raise, this time finding a re-raise from Thomas Holm to 79k (from 33k).  Call.
Flop:  8s 9h 7d  Richard checks, Thomas, after his regular 2 minute think, moves in - instacall.
Thomas shows:  Ad Qc
Richard shows:  7c 7s

Turn: 6h
River:  Kc

So we've lost Thomas Holm in 7th position, winning DKK 525312 = €70,481

Thomas has been playing poker for three years but his final table appearance here in his home city is his biggest poker success to date. This is also his first EPT - although he did qualify for last summer’s WSOP. Since becoming a dad four months ago, Thomas has been based at home - but used to work as an IT salesman.

Samir Shakhtoor raises to 36k.  Elky re-raises.  Samir passes.  Snoopy just pointed out that we haven't really reported on Shakhtoor at all - never there when he's been in any big pots, never noticing his quietly accruing his quarter million chips... he must have been doing something; going to see him play the final at any rate.

ElkY raises to 37k pre-flop, Richard Toth calls.

Flop = Tc 7h 9c

ElkY checks, Richard bets 59k and ElkY calls.

Turn = Js

Elky checks and so does Richard.

River = 5h

ElkY bets 120k.

Richard isn't sure how many it is, to which ElkY responds by saying, "I play online, I don't know how to handle chips."

Richard calls.

ElkY shows a 9, whilst Richard wins the pot with J-T.

Theo Jorgensen gets it all in on a 3h 5d Td flop, called by Samir Shakhtoor.  He doesn't mind - he has Aspades Ahrt
Samir shows:  T-7 for top pair
The turn and river are K-Q, no change there, so Theo gets his second double.

We'll give it a go, but can't get anywhere near the final...

I know that Alexandre Poulain just exited in 6th place, winning DKK 663552 = €89,028

Very short stacked, he made his last stand with K-7, called by two others.  It was Bertrand's A-Q which took that pot down, eliminating the other French finalist...

Title: Re: EPT Copenhagen - FINAL DAY - Interactive
Post by: snoopy1239 on January 20, 2007, 05:11:39 PM
Samir Shakhtoor is OUT and becomes the 5th place finisher winning DKK 843,264 (€113,142)

And as soon as we lose Poulain, another man falls, and this time it's Samir Shakhtood.

Poulain may be gone, but his countryman is stil running well, especially since he just eliminated the Swede with Queens versus A-3.

The crowd cheered as the first card revealed was an Ace, but as the dealer fanned them out, it was ElkY who had the last laugh as a third Queen reared its head.

Samir had a backdoor flush draw with his 3, but it never arrived as the board brought...

2s Qh Aspades 6c Tc

Down to 4.

Samir has had some impressive poker wins including $209,000 in a Foxwoods WPT event in November 2005 since taking the game two years ago. He also cashed at EPT3 London, coming 29th for £5,940. His day job is running the online dating site he founded two months ago. He said: “It’s actually in Denmark and I commute here from Malmo. No, I don’t actually have a girlfriend but I don’t date online – I’m still more of the bar type!”

I also caught ElkY during the break. A cool and calm character, he remains supremely confident that this is HIS day.

ElkY was a famous professional gamer until a friend suggested he try his luck at poker six years ago. He quickly proved his skills by qualifying for the WSOP two years running. He joined Team PokerStars last summer. Never without his trademark sunglasses, poker has proved a profitable career switch for the young Frenchman. He cashed at EPT3 Baden in October, coming 16th for €12,578 and is a prolific online player. He said: "With gaming, I could practice 12 hours a day, but if I lost the game, the value would be zero. However, in poker every hour has some benefit”.

Elky raises to 35k, Theo calls in the small blind.

Flop:  Aspades 7d 4d check-check
Turn:  Qh  check-check
River:  8s  check, ElkY wins with a 45k bet

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Richard raises to 116k preflop, Bertrand re-raises to 285k total.
4-3-J flop  ch-ch
Turn Qs  Richard checks, ElkY bets 250k, Richard quickly says, "call."
River:  6s  Richard checks, Elky moves in.  BIG pot now.  Richard, understandably, takes his time.  Bertrand takes two sips of water.  Call.

Bertrand shows 5-7  for the rivered gutshot(!)
Richard mucks.
"Game of skill," says Rolf.

What is it with that hand?

Some info on the Hungarian player...

Richard burst onto the scene in the last year, including a superb second in the World Series of Poker $1,500 No Limit event in the summer. That result got him $330,000, but he made another big cash by winning the Austrian Classics €3,000 European Masters Event in October, pocketing another €100,000. This is his third EPT - but the first time he has made it beyond Day 1.

Now everyone's a comparative short stack to chip monster ElkY - going to be some all-ins, like that of Theo Jorgensen (240k or so), eventually called by Richard after another long think.
Theo shows Ad Aspades.  Richard is probably regretting that call.
Richard: Qh 9h

Flop:  Ts 4h 7d
Turn:  Jh  what a draw Richard Toth has picked up (Theo says, "pair the board!")
River:  Th  (The poker gods are amusingly cruel sometimes).

So a brief swearword later, and Theo Jorgensen exits in 4th place, winning DKK 1022976 = €137,254

Little blinds-nicked or flops-taken-down pots:
Magnus Petersson       II
ElkY                          I

Richard raises to 45k, Magnus calls.
Flop: Td Ad 8s  Magnus checks, Richard checks.
Turn:  9h  Check, Richard bets 75k...
It's his.

Magnus raises preflop to 45k, Richard pops in a big stack of pink 10k chips... It's his.

Looks like Richard's got the upper hand of him twice in rapid succession - is the quiet Swede going to get some back?

John Duthie has taken over on the Final Table mic... and what a pot to announce.  Magnus comes over the top of Richard, all-in preflop.  It's a hefty 230kish for Toth to call, but call he eventually does.

Magnus: 7d 2c  (!)
Richard:  Ahrt 9d  (or Ace something else small, 6, 7, some raggish kicker).

Flop:  2d 5h Qs Kc Jc

And Magnus Petersson doubles up to over 800k, having well and truly dropped the hammer!

ElkY wins a small three way pot. After his 80k pre-flop raise was called by both players, ElkY's 120k bet on a 5c 5s 9h Flop was enough to scare away his opponents.

John Duthie has started swearing, commenting that the last Flop had a F***king Jack on it.  :dontask:

ElkY nicks some blinds.  Or, as John Duthie puts it, "takes down the pot."
A couple more hands see a 45k raise with a call, but no further action post flop apart from check-bet-pass.  Now that the chips have evened up, it looks like the game could seriously slow down.

Here's one that got a little further:
Qd 7h 5h  Magnus checks, Richard bets 70k, there's a call this time...
Turn:  3d  Magnus checks, Richard bets 120k.  Magnus raises all-in.  Richard dwells.  Unlike a lot of players who seem to only really give it the Hollywood when they're trying to cover up an obvious monster, or stall before passing, Richard's made the post-think call twice already on the TV Final.  But not this time - the pot goes to Magnus Petersson.

Financial advisor Magnus has been playing poker for three years, mainly online, although he is planning to play in more live tournaments from now on. His biggest win to date was $35,000 online but he also cashed at last year’s WSOP, coming 438th for $30,000. This is his first EPT – he qualified online with PokerStars in a $475 cash satellite.

Richard Toth is OUT and becomes the 3rd place finisher winning DKK 2,308,608 (€309,773)

ElkY raised pre-flop, Richard announced "all-in" and ElkY swiftly called.

ElkY = Ad Qh

Richard = Ac 5s

Board = 7d 3d 6h 8d Js

I think Richard lost the plot slightly and never quite recovered from the 2-7 bear, even muttering about it to his railer as he exited.

Bit of a debate here in the pressroom.

If you were Magnus with the 7-2, would you rather reveal your hand or muck?  :D

While the final two are on a break, a totally irrelevant anecdote of Snoopy idiosyncrasy -

Rolf took us out for dinner at the truly lovely Blue Elephant Thai restaurant.  We got to the stage where we were ordering drinks, and while the rest of us ordered tea and coke, Snoopy got out the cocktail menu.  When the waitress arrived, he pointed at a picture of a coconut with a cocktail umbrella in it and ordered the "Fresh Young Coconut."

"You know the cocktail you just ordered," I said.
"Yeah."
"It's a coconut with a straw in it."
"No, it's a cocktail in a coconut."
"No, it's a coconut."
He stopped the waitress.
"Excuse me, but the drink I just ordered, does it have alcohol in it?"
"No," she replied.  "It's a coconut."
"Can I change it to a Mai Tai?"
"Yes."
When it arrived, complete with garnish of pineapple and a fresh flower on a stick, the waitress tried to put it in front of me.

Then, when we ordered food, he asked for the dessert menu.  It was pink.  He had a big ice cream sundae.  It should have been pink.

They see a limp-check flop: 6d Ad 6h ElkY checks, Magnus bets 30k, call.
Turn:  Js  ElkY checks, Magnus bets 60k and wins it.

Chips now 1.5 mil to Magnus, 2.5 mil to Bertrand.

The two players check a cheap 6d Aspades Th Flop.

Turn = Qs and ElkY bets out 100k, a figure which is swiftly called by Magnus.

River = Qh

ElkY bets out 200k, Magnus makes it 400k and ElkY makes an instant fold, his fingers firmly shut in the cookie jar.

Title: Re: EPT Copenhagen - FINAL DAY - Interactive
Post by: Djinn on January 20, 2007, 08:43:02 PM
ElkY raises to 70k, call.

Flop:  3h Ts 9c check-check
Turn:  Ks check-check
River:  Ad  check a final time to ElkY who bets 70k, call.  Magnus gets to see the (winning) Ace in Bertrand's hand...

A few more hands progress their slow way to the flop (not a lot of raise-re-raise type stuff going on), but a 70k bet from one or the other of them is usually enough to end it and move on.

Chips more even than when they started, however.

Title: Re: EPT Copenhagen - FINAL DAY - Interactive
Post by: snoopy1239 on January 20, 2007, 08:48:50 PM
Flop = 3d 9h Ac

check, check

Turn = 9c

Magnus bets 70k, ElkY makes it 200k and Magnus calls.

River = 8s

Magnus checks, ElkY bets 300k and, after some momentary deliberation, Magnus calls.

ElkY wins the pot with T-9, Magnus mucks.

Post by: Djinn on January 20, 2007, 08:53:48 PM
ElkY makes it 70k to go...call.
Flop:  Ac 3h 6h  Magnus checks, ElkY bets 100k.  Slow deep reach, and Magnus puts in 150k on top.  It's called.
Turn:  Js  Magnus moves two big pink stacks with slightly shaky hands - 400k.  Bertrand gets out of the way.

Title: Re: EPT Copenhagen - FINAL DAY - Interactive
Post by: snoopy1239 on January 20, 2007, 09:00:38 PM
It appears as though ElkY is down to 800k, meaning Magnus has a massive chip lead with 3 million 200k.

Title: Re: EPT Copenhagen - FINAL DAY - Interactive

Big Hand:

It gets to the flop, as per usual - 7d Ts 2s.  The press room thinks Magnus Petersson might like it.  The betting remains slow, with ElkY betting the 2d turn and getting called by Magnus.
River:  3h  Now it took off - Magnus bet 80k, ElkY raised to 220k, Magnus moved all-in, and got a call.  And this all in the time it took for Bertrand Grospellier to raise an eyebrow... he showed Aspades 2c, but Magnus had 3d 3s and had rivered his way to a double up.   The tables have turned completely, and ElkY's not looking like a happy bunny.

Snoopy's just writing up the details of that final hand - how quickly the whole thing turned in the favour of the Swedish player.  His first EPT, qualified online (oh how Pokerstars must have loved that heads up) and said, smiling, "It's a good start."  He's being awarded a trophy which looks like a giant square magnifying glass, which is odd.

GG Elky and Magnus

Rolf said when ElkY looked the clear favourite that it would be a headline in itself if a non-Scandinavian player were to win another EPT (especially this one).  Little flags have come out and the press binge is in full swing.  Magnus Petersson looks a little overwhelmed by it all, and when the crew lady who tells the audience to clap emerged giving instructions, he just meekly asked, "What do you want me to do?"  Bless.

Yep - I think this is the earliest we've ever finished a final day of anything anywhere.  I scarcely know what to do with this time.

Thanks all for watching our updates - we'll be in Dortmund as well as the whole GUKPT tour so if anyone wants specific updates, feel free to add to our workload. ;)

Some quotes from the winner, Magnus Petersson.

"Going into the heads up, I think ElkY thought he was going to win. I asked him if he was interested in a deal, but he said no. I didn't really care though."

"Until the final stages, my tournament life was never really on the line, so I feel I played a good game."

"With the 2-7 off, I'd decided I was going to be more aggressive and use my tight image to my advantage. I wanted to put Richard to a decision, I think there are a lot of hands he could have folded."

"When it came to the last hand, I think the 2-7 was still in ElkY's mind, which is perhaps why he decided to make the call."

and in the end i got damaged by mr cloutier having kk aa back to back.

alas i had the easy job compared to jen and snoops, grafters and very sore feet ,  well done again
