Title: Grosvenor Grand Challenge Day 1 - Interactive
Post by: NoflopsHomer on January 20, 2007, 06:34:34 PM
:hello: and welcome to Luton for the Grand Challenge Event. This update will be running in tandem with the one in Copenhagen so hopefully we will be "The Colbert Report" to Jen and Snoopys "Daily Show".

A veritable minefield of single tables satellites with a 5 minute clock are raging around me as I type.

Pics and a few people I've just spotted to follow.

This is the last main event at this venue before the move to brand new premises next month. The Camel has been getting all nostalgic about years past, he having cut his teeth against many of the Luton old timers

I hear a rumour that an alternative use for this venue has already been agreed, and the building sold. Discretion prevents me from naming pre the watershed what that is going to be!!

Early action on table tikay, as told by rookieitb.....

tikay raises, rookie re-raises with  Qh Qd...gets re-reraised behind him...

rookie folds face up and tikay folds too.

John Hewston, the re-reraiser, shows Ad Ac to our intrepid young hero and our decripit old anti-hero.

More early exit news

I arrive just as Jim Reid on table tikay bets 3,500 into a pot of 5,000 on a board of

4s 5d 7c 8c Th

His opponent Thanh Nguyen moves all in and Jim dwells and dwells with his holding

 6c 6d

He eventually calls and Thanh mucks, rises up and departs stage left, sans eyes, sans teeth, sans everything including chips (about time we did faux Shakespeare references on live updates....)

If that's good luck, then you've done our first bokk in Greek

Tikay alerted me to the action. Green Jack limps utg for 100 (he has 4k back), Irish Dennis makes it 350 in LP, Anthony Nicholls makes it 950 from the small blind, Greek Jack re-raises to 2200, Dennis dwells and eventually passes. Anthony moves in, Greek Jack is forced to call having put in half his chips with 3-3 against Nicholls A-A, hoping he was up against A-K

Board:

9h Js Qd 8d 5d

Irish Dennis would've hit his set.

This is Driton Haxhiaj. Albanian by descent he is a very up and coming local player. Got a good aggressive game. Also has a surname that scores 27 at Scrabble which is going some. Second only I think to Buzzigoli, 30 points, out of these 102 runners.

Currently has 19,000 chips, quite a few of those gained from The Camel

As you can guess that was from Kev

Stuart Nash just folded Ad Ac on 7h Td Tc 5h 6h board after his opponent moved all-in on the river for 5,325 into a 9k pot. His opponent showed 6c 6d for the rivered house.

More excellent laydown news now

IrishDenis raises pre flop with Aces and is flat called by Anthony Nicholls

on a flop of

 4c 5d 7s

there is a bet from Denis and a flat call from Anthony with  8c 8h

the turn is

 8d

bet, call

river

 Ts

bet, chunky raise, pass by Denis

He says

"I've now had to pass Aces, and Queens and Jacks pre-flop in this comp. Its a miracle I am still in"

tikay pipes up "and I've had to pass 83 off TWICE!!"

Micky Wernick is OUT. All-in on a Q-9-3 board with A-A. Warren Woolridge had Nines.

Meanwhile, Jonny Hewston raises to 1k and gets 3 callers including Mick Fletcher. Flop comes Kh Th 3h, checked to Mick Fletcher, 2nd to last to act, he moves in for around 6k, everyone folds. Fletcher shows 6s 5s.

RookieITB doubles up news.....

In a multiway limped pot he is in the SB with  6d 4s

flop  Kh 5h 2d

all four players check including Denis O'Mahoney on the BB

Turn  3s, which is really a fantastic card for Ben is it not?

He checks, Denis bets, others pass, Ben pushes his remaining 2,500 all in and Denis eventually calls the 2,500 into the 3,800 or so pot with

Kd Ts, drawing dead before the river

Tighty informs me that Scarfman is Andrew Georgiou, a big Vic cash game player. Eitherway he's just knocked out Ryan Fronda with Kings against Queens

to answer 77dave,

Table 1 has Steve Templeman in seat 1, Ambro Morreale in 2, and Damon D'Cruz in 3

All have in excess of 30,000 and if anything Steve appears to have given chips to the other two

the remainder of the table including Tino Libertini are shortstacked, clinging on

PeteL is OUT. The players on his table told me that Nik Persaud raised the button to 1,100 playing a 17k stack or so. Pete made it 20k with A-Q from the big blind "I f**ked up, I made a s**t move," Nik called with A-K and doubled up. He then lost the rest with Eights to Tens.

Joe Grech has 17k, "I keep bluffing them away" as he has a crafty fag break.

Karl Mahrenholz makes progress by getting KK versus JJ of mateyboy, all-in pre-flop. They stand up, elevating him to the relative security of 18,000

Chip leader on the King/McCool table is Stewart Clutterbuck with 36,000

Danny Samson is OUT as is Praz Banzi

Triple Double-up news now:

First, Mick McCool (Slick Kid) doubles through Big Trevor Reardon with J-J against A-K.

Mick Fletcher wins his race with A-K against Neil Channing's T-T

and Nick "Ripple11" has around 20k now when Paul King didn't believe he had an ace on an A-A-9-x-x board.

Blinds about to be 300/600, avg stack is 16.2k and there are 63 players left.

Vik Kanwar is OUT

Pushes his last two thousand in from the cut off with  4d 5d

Ariel Adda re-raises on the button to 6,000 to isolate with  Jh Js

but Nick Persaud re-reraises in the BB to 15,000 with, as it turns out,  Aspades Qs

Adda passes

the flop gives Vik some hope

 Jd 9d Ks

but the river and turn blank with  9s 8h to knock him out

Adda would have hit the house.

I nearly missed my flight too Nick, I'm blaming putting Kev O'Connell in charge of pouring the free drinks! Eye-wan said he drove passed Luton and had to stop himself from taking the turn off, after his beat in Copenhagen a few days off I reckon.

Steve Templeman and Ariel Adda are over 50,000 each, sat next to each other on Table 1. Next to them Damon D'Cruz has slipped back to under 20,000

Dennis O'Mahoney gets a double up to nearly 25,000 chips, pushing all in in the cut off with  Aspades 8s he gets an entirely unexpected and frankly inexplicable call from the mateyboy in the BB with  Ad 2s

the board   8h Qs Kc Ac 8d was rather emphatic for Dennis

Anthony Nicholls has just picked up a big pot, raising with  9h 9d and being re-raised by a young mateyboy who set himself in

Anthony had a tough decision, and eventually called for half his remaining stack

Good call, as MB had  Ahrt Js (which was to be fair a decent move, as Anthony nearly passed)

9s on the river sealed the deal for Anthony who rises to over 40,000 in chips

Ok, he didn't steal he had a set of 3's.

There's just been another pot where a raise, was followed by a re-raise and Rookie pushed with A-K and the re-raiser folded Q-Q to him. Rookie over 30k, I think the fact that 11th to 18th all pay £1,000 has something to do with that push.

Also, having spoken to JP, (who lost a race when matey had 44 against JP's AQ), Karl Marenholz (couldn't get a guy to fold 88 on a K-K-J-9-x board), Rooks and a couple of the other players, all of them would've liked to have seen running antes in the tournament, as would Tighty and myself, (just so I can use the puntastic running antes kicking in picture). After the successful structure of the Bolton GUKPT event, hopefully more big buy-in tournaments will introduce it.

Nick Ripple11 Jenkins is OUT, not wanting to have to come  back tomorrow with 10 BB's Nick pushed with KQ for 12k and found a surprising caller from the BB who called all-in with AT sooted. He flopped a Queen but a rivered Ace put him down to 1 BB which went all-in next hand in with Ad 3s  in a 3-way pot with Irish Dennis's Ac Qc and Matey's Qs Qd.

Board:

Jc 4d 9d Kd Qh

Irish Dennis, who had made good decisions all-day went next hand with an Ace-rag to the same Matey's Q-Q again next hand.

It was a proper good laugh at Luton yesterday... Highlights included Big Johnny Hewston accidently stepping on Irish Dennis' foot ( I now know what pain looks like when displayed as an emotion)..

laughing at Paul King as he watched from the rail, while his Wife (who is stunningly beautiful by the way) was still in the comp... And constantly reminding him that the best player in his house was still in.

The banter on tikays table was quality, Johnny Tex, Irish Dennis, Tikay, Rookie .... it took about 2 hours for the rest of the table to get a word in !!  And the play was very high quality, some fantastic laydowns (by Dennis in particular) who was proved spot on every time.

The posh boys did a great job with the updating, im looking forward to todays efforts.

Great updates -  felt like I was there - wish I had been.

Good news is when the old luton premises reemerge with tables I might make more money there  ::)
