Title: What causes internet connections to fail?
Post by: Sark79 on January 20, 2007, 11:15:32 PM
I have been having terrible connection troubles all night.  It was fine after dinner then as soon as I started playing poker, it failed on me.  I left it for a while and then went back to it and it seemed to have cured itself.

I have been doing ok in the HU games over the last few days, so i decided to allow myself entry into a $50 MTT, normally this is out of my range. Unfortunately as soon as the game began, my bloody internet died on me again. The only place it seems to work is in the bathroom  :D. I had to play the tourney in the bathroom, but unfortunately my mouse was in 1000 bits by that stage and I had to use the touch bit on the laptop. One misclick and it was all over. I need a new mouse now as well, my third mouse in the last seven months. They seem to take flying leasons when things aren't going well, lol

What causes a connection to fail. I am further away from the router in the bathroom than anywhere else in my house  :dontask:

:D

There is nothing more frustrating in the World than when it suddenly dies while in the middle of a hand.

Is it possible it could be effected by a neighbours radio or something like that?   I am useless with these kinds of things

i dont understand how the neighbours radio would affect it. You should lock your door to stop it sneaking in again and pisses about with your router. Rogue radios (or PIRATE RADIOS as i like to call them -badda bum tiss!) are becoming a nationwide problem.

Call crimstoppers today if you spot on 0800 200 200 and receive your reward if they get prosecuted. STOP CRIME NOW!!

ceck if tis failing at a regular interval then you will proberly find that your missing a filter or the filter is faulty

ok, thanks.  Is that a real number  :D .

I wasn't sure if a router signal could be effected by another signal such as a radio. I am trying to remember what my teacher taught me in higher physics about radio waves, but I mostly slept during that class unfortunately

ok, I will have to get the router book out for that one.      It is fine during the middle of the night, but around 5-10 pm it dies and it says very weak signal. In the bathroom it says strong signal for some reason. I am fairly far away from the router in the bathroom though.  I went to every place in the house and kept checking the signal strength, the bathroom is the strongest. This is now my new poker room, lol

i dont know if this has any bearing in science but with sound in a room, as well as heat, if you have lots of material e.g. curtains, carpet, bedding, etc will act as an acoustic dampener as well as obviously absrbing heat. Im wondering that if in the bathroom, there is less such absorptive materials then the signal sent from router will bounce round the room more and retain its signal strength! just a theory but might be true!

Yea, that is a point. I didn't think of that.

I am going to have to have a rethink about where I have my laptop tomorrow, I have to find a place for the router where it is more central in the house than it is. I don't fancy being in the bathroom for the remainder of my poker life  :D
