Title: Shares on offer for William Hill Grand Prix Post by: DTD-ACES on September 21, 2005, 02:19:03 AM I was invited to play in the William Hill Garnd Prix at the end of October , the cost is £6000 , UK Betting have already agreed a superb schedule and don't want to add this but as it is being held in the studios of Late Night Poker in Cardiff and instead of filming 2 heats a day as we used to , there is only one being filmed as the structure is player friendly i will play if i can sell some shares .
The format is the same as LNP , 48 invited pros and 8 online qualifiers , there is £114,000 added to the prizepool and first prize is £150,000 ,winner of each heat goes to the final , runner up to the semi for the last place in the final . I'm the first to admit my form of late has been crap , however i have two points in my favour . When the first 6 series of LNP were filmed i had the best record , 2 finals finsihing 1st and 2nd , i actually played 9 times . Series 1 came 3rd , Series 2 won my heat and final , Series 3 6th , Series 4 , 2nd in my heat , won the semi , 2nd in the final , Series 5 + 6 came 7th both times , i played the Poker Million twice and finshed 2nd both times , so out of 11 times i finished 1st or 2nd 7 times . The second point is during the WSOP i wanted to play the $10,000 Omaha which also wasn't on my schedule , i sold off 67% and went on to finish 5th winning $93,300 . I was backed in the second Poker Million when i came second in the heat . To be honest i wasn't going to try this but i recieved an email telling me the cut off point is 3rd October and decided i have nothing to lose by trying , obviously in an ideal world i will hit form at the Vic next week and £6000 will be a drop in the ocean but back in the real world it is beyond my current bankroll . At the WSOP as i was no 1 last year in Omaha and won the 220 runner event at the Master Classics i was selling 10% for $1500 , a 50% markup , one guy had 20% and i returned him $18,600 , i can't guarantee i will win but who knows , on previous form i have a chance. I will sell 1% to whatever you want at £75 a %age , if there is not enough interest fair enough i'll forget it , i will not be offering this anywhere else as i only post here now and would prefer my fellow blondites to have a horse exclusively , i'll give it until Sunday 1st October and see what happens , i'm too thick skinned to let it bother me if i only sell 2 shares , thanks mum lol. Thanks for reading ACES Title: Re: Shares on offer for William Hill Grand Prix Post by: I KNOW IT on September 21, 2005, 02:54:17 AM Hi Simon,
Im glad you posted this offer , because i have always wondered about something with these type of offers and I believe you will give an honest answer. You offer 1% @ £75 which is with a 25% mark up. I know you are not alone with this type of mark up, as several pro's do too. But what I dont understand is , using your own words," that you dont have the bank roll for it" but would obviously love to play. The need to have a mark up, because with out these share holders , you are not going to be able to play. So everyone needs each other equally. Im sure more people would be willing to buy a % on an even cost This is in no way a dig at you personally as Im sure you know, but it has always puzzled me in this specific circumstances. Good luck in your quest and I hope you succeed in your goal Title: Re: Shares on offer for William Hill Grand Prix Post by: TightEnd on September 21, 2005, 09:32:43 AM What is the field of runners please anyone?
Title: Re: Shares on offer for William Hill Grand Prix Post by: AndrewT on September 21, 2005, 10:15:00 AM Here's the names confirmed so far:
Andy Black Barny Boatman Ben Roberts Brian Wilson Christer Johansson Dave Colclough Dave Ulliott Donnachea O'Dea Jani Sointula Joe Beevers John Shipley Juha Helppi Julian Thew Lawrence Gosney Peter Costa Peter Gunnarson Ram Vaswani Roland De Wolfe Ross Boatman Roy Brindley Simon Nowab Steve Vladar Stuart Nash Surindar Sunar Tony Bloom Tony G Willie Tann Xuyen Pham Of course, anyone can beat a load of 'pros' - it's the internet qualifiers you should worry about... Title: Re: Shares on offer for William Hill Grand Prix Post by: DTD-ACES on September 21, 2005, 01:49:38 PM First of all "I know it" in reply to your question
Regarding my bankroll , i would not risk more than 5% on a tournament of his type , therefore i need £120,000 minimum which currently i am below . Secondly where a player is considered to have an edge they usually will charge a %age above . A standard deal on a one off basis is someone puts up the full amount and you play for 50% with a makeup , ie the entry fee is deducted before splitting the remainder , therefore in this case you are getting a 100% markup so 25% is quite reasonable. One can only try and see what the response is , so far although many have read this post no one has been interested in buying a share , i suppose if i have to i could sell 70% at £60 a time and put up £1800 to play for 30% , i think to be honest i saw the list of all the players and as it represents most of the old LNP players i felt i wanted to be part of it and i believe i can win it . In reality it's not that important . If i am successful at the Vic next week or even Baden the following week and there is still a place left i will reconsider my position , i am very fortunate to have a great sponsorship deal with UK Betting , my next events include 4 at the Vic , the EPT in Baden , 3 events including the EPT in Dublin , then Amsterdam , Paris and St Kitts so missing this event is no big deal . Hope that was honest enough for you. Title: Re: Shares on offer for William Hill Grand Prix Post by: yt on September 21, 2005, 03:03:04 PM Secondly where a player is considered to have an edge they usually will charge a %age above . Do you have an edge against the runners posted above? No offence but most are on par with you results wise right? Is that worth a 25% mark up? Saying that I've always enjoyed watching you play and would like to get involved if the price is right! I'd buy at £60-£65 maybe but I'm small time and 2 shares is all I can commit to! Still I work for Tesco and 'Every Little Helps'! Title: Re: Shares on offer for William Hill Grand Prix Post by: I KNOW IT on September 21, 2005, 03:58:43 PM Thanks Simon for your reply, but I think the above posts prove my thinking,
Notice the amount of intrest in an equal share, dont give up on the idea if it means you get to have a shot. Something is better than nothing. Title: Re: Shares on offer for William Hill Grand Prix Post by: Gamblor21 on September 21, 2005, 04:19:29 PM I'm here flushy!!!

Shares will be £60 each , if i sell 70% i'll play . If i sell less but have a good Vic and can afford to pay the balance i will honour the agreement with those that have expressed an interest . would have to disagree with that one ironside - i have put a blonde link up for rob young and the betfair police havent taken it down and very much doubt wether it will - i know you dont like the betfair forum or many of its players but there are a lot who are members of both camps - and as tikay i am sure will confirm we aint a bad lot Title: Re: Shares on offer for William Hill Grand Prix Post by: TightEnd on September 22, 2005, 09:44:01 AM I dont want to sound funny but the amount of egotistical wannabes on here why are you not joining yourselves? ok bankroll may be an issue but surely this is better than buying shares in ac ad`s. JS The event we are referring to is limited to 48 runners, and only 8 of these spaces are open to qualifiers via Wm Hill. Simple as that really, we're not able to play ourselves Title: Re: Shares on offer for William Hill Grand Prix Post by: danmonkey on September 22, 2005, 11:02:45 AM I'll have 1%, not much but it all counts. How do we pay?
Just of interest, if there are 56 players paying £6000 with £114000 of added money then each seat is worth a little over £8000. Thus the offer of 1% for £75 seems perfectly reasonable, providing of course Simon doesn't sell 100% or more! I'll pay whatever everyone else is. Cheers, Dan. Title: Re: Shares on offer for William Hill Grand Prix Post by: riverdave on September 22, 2005, 11:03:24 AM As it goes Tight End i also have the offer of a place in this tournament but due to the wild swings in my bankroll i dont think i can really commit 6k towards it. I also feel i have the game for this format having come 2nd in my one previous attempt at this format which will be shown on the Poker Channel next Thursday night. If anyone would like to purchase any % shares in me also at cost price please PM me. I would probably need to offload 50% to play comfortably but may be able to do some of this offline.

When someone asks to back me. If I asked for 10% with 7.5% return of the profit to them, my justification would be that this is my job. It is what I do for a living. The hours I spend playing poker pay for the food in my fridge and for daughter's school clothes. More importantly though, the 25% has to cover petrol, hotels, flights, juice on most tournaments and general expenses. It's not a matter of being greedy. It's just a fair deal all round. Title: Re: Shares on offer for William Hill Grand Prix Post by: DTD-ACES on September 22, 2005, 12:48:56 PM Ok , so far 18% has been requested , 3 @ 5% , 1 @2% and 1 @ 1%
Thanks for your interest and also a big thanks for Dave explaining in a much better way why there is normally 25% juice . Unless i can sell a further minimum of 49% leaving me a balance of £2000 to pay , it will depend on my results at the Vic , once i have finished there next Sunday , if i intend to play i will then give you details on how to pay for the shares by email.
