Title: Tech help for the cat Post by: JungleCat03 on January 24, 2007, 02:19:33 PM Hi,
My brother's comp has had some problems browsing the internet, pages opening very slowly despite a fast broadband connection. I ran through some stuff with him to help speed it up, but it only started running at the right speed when he uninstalled Mcafee which he uses as his virus detection software. For now he's got AVG running but just wanted to find out if anyone else has had this problem and got round it without having to unistall mcafees. Cheers for any advice. Tell him to try another browser such as Mozilla Firefox. When a browser runs slowly it has possibly been hijacked, it might be worth running an adaware type program Title: Re: Tech help for the cat Post by: JungleCat03 on January 24, 2007, 02:25:23 PM He does use IE, but it runs fast and trouble-free without mcafee installed and interminably slowly with it.
Seems to be an issue with mcafee, i noticed some others have logged this problem too. Just wondered if there was a patch, or workround to have fast connection + mcafee. Title: Re: Tech help for the cat Post by: Zebediah on January 24, 2007, 02:39:13 PM Yes,
That Mcaffee virus is a pain...nearly as bad as the Norton virus. Invite you brother round to yours, have him spend 15 minutes verbally abusing Flushy .... computer will still be knackered, but he will feel a whole lot better about it :) Title: Re: Tech help for the cat Post by: Snatiramas on January 24, 2007, 04:09:27 PM For what it is worth been using AVG for a while without problems
