Title: Stupid size bets
Post by: ItsMrAlex2u on January 25, 2007, 06:44:09 AM
Playing 3 cash tables at the mo (3/6 nl) and there is a different guy on each table who insists on betting stupid amounts each time. 43.72 or 29.63 or 91.47

WHY???????????????

It is really irritating.

Anyone else get wound up by this? ( although i guess that is the point)

When it comes to decimal betting i don't see the point of it but it doesn't annoy me.
I suppose they think they are quirky.

This is the point. Not seeing the (decimal) point is exactly my point. Seeing the point is pointless.

Maybe i am still drunk

I decimal bet sometimes to ...

1. annoy people into going onto tilt.
2. make small bets seem bigger (player dependent)
3. make it look like im making a small bet seem bigger (player dependent)
4. Mess up everyone else's stack for a laugh.
5. Keep a record of who's been calling my raises by looking for the "decimated" (wrong use but f*** it) stacks who've messed with the cat.
6. clean up my own stack.
7. Leave myself 0.01c back to fire the lamest bullet ever on the flop.

I like to bet 0.01 less than the opponent has, then vow to myself to check/call till the end unless I have Straight Flush+

It's what I do to induce the worst bubble value raises and bubble value bets in the history of mankind.

It makes me feel big and clever

Lol, I do this too. It's an awesome tactic :)

If they go all-in over the top for their last 0.01 then I use my full time clock before calling.

I'd expect that sort of behaviour from a guy who buys every single item in an auction  :D

I like doing quirky bets in live tournaments when they are slow to take away the 25's. It really does irritate

Another good reason for doing it is it stops people raising you as they struggle to work on how much the correct raise is   so they just call or pass

How do you retort when the non-house voulnteer calls for "dealer friendly bets please"

I guess people do this because it makes them feel clever?

It always makes me feel clever.

So does telling other people their motives are to make themselves feel clever.

No wonder we're all so clever (especially me)

From time to time I've noticed that the bet slider will have a bit of a tizzy and not increase in round amounts, so it will go to things like 8.72 and 17.34 etc, even if I don't want it to. So it could just be accidental.

It's funny, but even the most unobservant players who don't follow your betting patterns will notice when you make 'interesting' bet amounts.

I've bet 888 chips onto a T8K board, when I was holding 88.  This got some some comments of 'lol' and 'nice bet'.  Soon after a bet of 999 onto a A92 board got everyone to fold to my 76s (two players claiming they folded Ax).

I don't think it'd work often or consistently, but it was an interesting experiment.

Like jungo says, it's player dependant.

I'm not clever enough to know the difference, (or assed enough to lean forward and use the keyboard in game) so usually stick to multiples of anniversarys that people have parties for.
