THe 4th placed teams from the big leagues into the UEFA Cup should improve it as well.

I guess it will mean that some of those who have qualified for the UEFA Cup recently finishing lower down the table, won't be getting in any more either.

I think we may see the UEFA a bit bigger - he's looking at having more champions in the Champions League, so I guess the olive branch could be more UEFA places.

This could be disastruous for Liverpool and Arsenal whilst Man Utd and Chelsea dominate the top 2 places.  Means 1 of the 2 would go into UEFA Cup.

Much much less money than ECL, less glamour, harder to tempt players etc.

I must say that in most seasons the CL works well for England as i think mnost would not argue that the top 4 are a bit ahead of the rest of the division.  It seems a shame that one of the four may not b in CL.

Also correct me if i am wrong someone, but i think all 4 premiership teams all won their first phase groups.

When the bottom team are due to get £30m from TV money I'd ask how much more you want for the EPL?

I'd be happy enough if the automatic Group Stage places were spread out more (one per country) and England/Italy/Spain got 3 in the qualifiers, but pushing one into the UEFA will improve it as well.

It would be fantastic if just the winners of the league went into the "champions" league.

Then the UEFA cup would have alot more presitage.

Fuk money, winning the champions league these days means dick when you can finish 4th in your league and still win the champions league, totally devalued. Lets hope he can take some of the power away from the elite clubs. Talks cheap lets see him in action first.

I agree with this. I cant see Platini changing it too much although he said he would, i cant see the G14 accepting this and like Kinboshi said money talks.

I feel Platini will be able to get away with it in Spain possibly but in England? I really hope not. G14 wont like it one bit. It'll also devalue TV deals for the Champions League abroad, for the simple reason that the EPL is the most watched league anywhere.

Do people really want to see Warsaw & Steau Bucharest or Arsenal & Liverpool?

When our 4th (Arsenal) and 5th (Liverpool) placed teams are making Champions League finals in successive years it shows they are well above the Uefa Cup in terms of ability.

Seriously though - there's got to be something done as the CL is being dominated by teams who aren't having to work particularly hard to qualify for it. The teams from the bigger countries, already on bigger TV payments, get more money for the same performance in the CL (and the same will happen next year in the UEFA) as it is.

Champions from the top 12 straight in to the group stage & the rest qualify would do me (even if the numbers from the individual leagues stayed the same - ie England / Spain etc with 4).

Seriously Rod do you think it's harder to win the Romanian league or come 4th in England?

I like your suggestion though. I still think the big 4 from England would qualify using this system but at least it gives a fairer chance to the champions of the Eastern Block.
