Title: broadbank connection
Post by: vegaslover on January 26, 2007, 10:10:24 PM
Recently, I have had my meagre broadband connection upgraded from 516kb to 2.5mb.
However whenever i'm on the net the connection keeps dropping and I can't find out why.
Ideas anyone?

A friend had the exact same problem, I can't remember what the solution was but I will ask him.

After much faffing around last night on various forums found the problem.
Due to my bb modem being old, I needed new drivers to support the increase in speed.

Just how rubbish are customer services of broadband companies. I had emailed them re. above query. There answer was it was very uncommon and that i should check the filters were set up properly.

So i sent them a sarcastic email back telling them the cause of the problem and how to fix it. Even more bizarre was the fact I found out how to fix it from a post on their forum!!!!!!!

I have the same problem, repeated "dropping out", & my Modem is a bit ancient. How do I buy/find/install new drivers? Or is it better to buy a new Modem

My bb connection is with orange-previously wanadoo-previously freeserve.

They supply the thompson speedtouch modems, went onto speedtouch website and downloaded updated drivers. Apparently when bb first came around the drivers could only work with 2meg max, hence the continually dropped connections.

The "Dropping out" can be a number of factors, not all related to the "Drivers" (Bits of software that allow your computer to talk to and use your Modem).

By all means grab the latest Drivers, visit the manufacturers website or google for them using your modem's make and model number : -

"Generic modem 11332 drivers"

As you have probably already proved Orange has comeout on top on the list of the worst Broadband Providers in the UK.

Hadn't escaped my notice. Problem with bb, and Orange in particular, if you want to change providers it takes weeks, and thats if it all goes smoothly
