Title: Burning DVDs, dumb question.
Post by: thetank on January 28, 2007, 12:17:27 AM
I got myself a DVD burner, and some blank DVDs.

I just made one, but I think it's a data DVD.

How does one burn something that you can watch in a regular DVD player?

Not trying to start my own pirate empire here, just watch the American TV progs I download from t'internet in my bed.

It's up to your DVD player whether it supports +R, -R, +RW, -RW or all of them. 99% of modern DVD players will play any format you chuck at them.

You're probably right though that you've created a data disc rather than a playable DVD. How did you burn it? Right-click the file in XP and copy it to the DVD? That won't work. You need DVD burning software that will correctly convert your TV prog file (.avi etc) into the files you find on a playable DVD (.vob etc.).

Freeware: http://www.imgburn.com/

Not free but trial version available and it's what I use: http://www.nero.com

You have to run a special finishing sequence on them to make them compatible with any player. Let us know how you get on with the porn.

Another Silly Question.

I have a headset complete with microphone.

What's the simplest way for me to create an audifile of my own voice?

Plug the mic in
Open Sound Recorder (Start > Programs > Accessories > Entertainment)
Hit the record button and talk.

hmmm I was thinking the same thing. Hot tub the night before and now making DVD's and recording his own voice (voiceover?)

More disturbing though is that everytime I read this thread I hear Barry White in my head...

Noooooo, I'm not the walrus of love, it's just coz you can put an audio file at the menu where you pick what episode you want to play.

I wanted to surprise (and scare) by saying hello to who the DVD is for (after the 10 seconds of obligatory silence.)

Tons of fun, my first efforts went a bit wrong though, the audio and video segments of are out of sync. The video runs a little slow so I'll have to figure out where I went wrong and start again.

If you use Nero (and other apps to it too) you can create a nice menu thing like proper dvd's use.  You can put a music file on there if you like too :)  All very pleasant.

Silo, do you ever have a problem where the video part of the DVD you make doesn't work properly?

The sound is all normal, but the visual action takes place at half the speed.
