Title: blonde Techie Update Post by: tikay on January 28, 2007, 03:32:12 AM Yes, as many of you have already noted, Bongo has come on board to head up our Techie Department. Most of you will already know Bongo, he of the outrageous Barnet, but also the guy who so often comes to our rescue when blondes have computer-related problems. I have utter & complete confidence in Paul (Bongo) to help move blonde forward, via SEO, to much-improved traffic levels. Currently, snoops & his Team are producing what is, in my opinion, the best daily-updated Poker News site in the UK. Though I would say that I suppose...... But with the help of Bongo & SEO, (& other soon-to-be-announced changes) we believe we can improve traffic levels significantly, to the level they deserve to be, & this in turn will enable blonde to be a more rounded commercial animal, without sacrificing that special blonde Forum atmo. I'm sure you will all support Bongo as our Techie. Until his feet are properly under the desk, it's hard to assess how much help he needs to get blonde in shape Web-Wise. However, additional resource has been lined up & is waiting in the wings, should Bongo feel he needs it. Title: Re: blonde Techie Update Post by: thetank on January 28, 2007, 03:36:29 AM An official good luck on this thread then Bongo.
All the best. :)up Title: Re: blonde Techie Update Post by: totalise on January 28, 2007, 03:38:30 AM congrats Bongo and blonde, looks like a great move for both parties.
Title: Re: blonde Techie Update Post by: NoflopsHomer on January 28, 2007, 03:38:57 AM I have utter & complete confidence in Paul (Bongo) Paul? I thought he was actually named Bongo by his parents.... ;whistle; Title: Re: blonde Techie Update Post by: tikay on January 28, 2007, 03:43:17 AM In welcoming Bongo aboard, I'd just like to take a moment to thank Bream & Sparks for their efforts.
We have not fallen out with Bream & Sparks, in fact I've never had a cross word with them. But we just needed to do certain things differently. Bream & Sparks - Ade & Rowan - came on board when we badly needed them & did a grand job, improving Forum & Site Stability to almost 100% reliability, from it's previously fragile condition. When we had the Management Changes at blonde last Autumn, Rowan, Ade & myself found ourselves in a very odd situation which required THE most careful sorting out if blonde were to stay online. I'll forever be grateful to them both for trusting me, & being patient, until we could resolve the situation - which we eventually did, 100% successfully. Thanks guys. Title: Re: blonde Techie Update Post by: RED-DOG on January 28, 2007, 03:50:22 AM For the third time tonight then, good luck Bongo.
Now ffs go and fix something! Title: Re: blonde Techie Update Post by: Bongo on January 28, 2007, 03:50:31 AM Thanks again everyone for the warm welcome.

All the best. :)up Oops, sorry, missed this...... http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=19544.0 Title: Re: blonde Techie Update Post by: Djinn on January 28, 2007, 08:51:13 PM Just want to add my thanks to Bongo for the quick and reliable fixes he's already implemented - it's so great to have access to the secret behind the scenes world of tweaking which makes all the difference to us less technologically advanced content creators... it's been a long enough time for me to have learned the C++ basics since we've been able to change/update/improve stuff, but even if you can't see them, interesting things are planned which we hope will make blonde bigger and better, introduced to more people via the miracle of the internet.
Bongo - I roll out the virtual red carpet for you. Title: Re: blonde Techie Update Post by: Poppet7 on January 28, 2007, 09:00:50 PM Congrats & Good Luck Bongoooooo! :)

Whilst in Brighton today, tikay left his lappie unguarded and Flushy kept trying to peek at the mods board !! I managed to thwart his attempts at spying the Holy Grail, But to appease him I allowed him to do 1 search of the mods board..... He typed in "Flushy is a cock" and got 73 pages of results :D Title: Re: blonde Techie Update Post by: tikay on January 28, 2007, 11:52:39 PM I suppose the good news is that nobody had to go through all the threads on the mod board with a pair of scissors :D See http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=19536.0 We'd need a shredder if that came to fruition..... Title: Re: blonde Techie Update Post by: Acidmouse on January 29, 2007, 11:24:49 AM How many page impressions do the forums get? or that secret? :P
Title: Re: blonde Techie Update Post by: tikay on January 29, 2007, 01:04:04 PM How many page impressions do the forums get? or that secret? :P It's not a secret, it's a mystery. What is a "page impression"? Title: Re: blonde Techie Update Post by: AndrewT on January 29, 2007, 01:10:20 PM How many page impressions do the forums get? or that secret? :P It's not a secret, it's a mystery. Title: Re: blonde Techie Update Post by: kinboshi on January 29, 2007, 01:22:49 PM How many page impressions do the forums get? or that secret? :P It's not a secret, it's a mystery. What is a "page impression"? Number of page views/impressions is simply the number of times any pages of the site are requested by visitors. Some people incorrectly call this 'hits', but hits are a different metric, a fairly useless figure that tells you the number of requests to the server have been made (so a page with 10 images on it, would mean at least 11 hits for that page - not very helpful at all). You want to know the page impressions, and also the number of unique daily visitors - as these give a good indication of traffic levels to the site. Stairway to Heaven - will ALWAYS remind me BBC Formula 1 coverage and the quite awful Murray Walker. I get confused - we measure "hits", "page visits", "Unique IP's" ("Visitors"), the latter being the one that matters, I'm told. The "hits" are massive, but meaningless as I understand it. Title: Re: blonde Techie Update Post by: Acidmouse on January 29, 2007, 03:24:53 PM Ahh I am guessing the traffic through the forums is huge then. I used to be webby at a few large sites (www.dooyoo.co.uk etc.) and I was just interested in the stats and compare with the add revenue they used to generate. I think the click through for normal adsense adverts are 0.2 or something very low like that.
Title: Re: blonde Techie Update Post by: ifm on January 30, 2007, 02:42:50 AM I know this has been mentioned before but can someone look into a way of ignoring certain threads?
i.e. if i don't want "2 word saddos lounge" popping up every 2 minutes i can "mark" it to stop it? Or even a filter for certain keywords such as "badbeat", "couldigetawayfromthis", "AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!", "train", "bridges", "APAT" etc. ?
