Watched the first hour of 'The Open Replayed' last night (Sun morn) at 2am. It 'appeared' to be live and perhaps some sort of test transmission to iron out the creases before moving to the normal 9pm slot (tonight?).

Have you got any more info for us on this and your involvement with it Tikay?

Does anyone know when we'll be able to sign up for this?  I've gone to their website and there's just a holding page inviting to you send them your email address to receive updates.  I did that last week and haven't had anything yet ???

The Show is recorded by way of an "As-Live Rehearsal"" every night, but not transmitted Live yet. For technical reasons, they air an "As-Live Rehearsal" every morning at 2am, usually from a few days earlier.

I'd like to give you a full Update, behind the scenes & everything, & will when the "suits" say it's OK so to do. All I can confirm for now is that at present, until they rumble me, I am one of a Team of 5 or 6 "Expert Commentators" (there are an equal number of "Presenters"). We also have 3 Guests in the Studio every night. I am also under contract as a Consultant to the Show.

As soon as the "Launch Date" is confirmed, I'll be able to let you know the full SP.

"The Open" is just one of the different shows currently planned for channel 846, which will air Live 7 nights a week.

By "sign up", do you mean to the cardroom? If so, not until the show launches. I work for the TV Channel, not the Cardroom, so it's not my department, so to speak.

A major Direct Mail & e-Mail campaign is planned, I understand, which will go to all Sky Subscribers.

You can actually play it on your TV, via the Red Button. No computer needed. But I'm not sure if you can play it on the TV AND watch "normal" TV Shows at the same time. Why would you want to when Helen Chamberlain & Co are on?

Title: Re: Sky Poker!
Post by: Acidmouse on February 08, 2007, 12:27:39 PM
Erm I think Helen Chamberlain not wearing a bra in the previews put me off tbh. I like watching normal TV while playing poker so I don't get bored.

yes you can play via the red button and watch yer tv at same time,or you can play on your pc and watch the show on your tv,or you can watch via live feed on your pc whilst playing on your pc.

so basically the answer is yes.

Ok folks, Its happened!!!  The website is now active and ready for you to get registered and get involved in tonights TV Tournament at 9pm.  Just go to :

http://www.skypoker.com/poker/sky_lobby

Register an account and username, and your off.  The comp is called "The Open" and is the Poker Lobby under Multi Table Tournaments, then Televised tournaments.  It is great value and great fun.  Its a £10 comp with a £2,500 guaranteed prizepool.  So, you can just play the comp or you can play and watch "The Open" at the sametime on SKY channel 846.  One of your hands could even get reviewed live on the show, or you can win a bounty by knocking out one of the 3 studio guest also playiing the comp.

I'll be in under Chili, so good luck!!

Done that pops, no difference... doesnt really matter... i dont wanna chat to the other peasants anyway.

ZZZZZZZZ you need to look at the "getting started" page, i had same problem but you need to configure your firewall .... all the info is there under connection problems.

DON'T call me "pops" in front of my new friends & colleagues at Sky. They see me as young & cool & dashing.

Program Starts on SKY at 9pm.  Comp starts at 9.05pm.  It is just about Live (ten min delay) so they cant talk about hands that are in progress at that time.

1500 starting stack blinds every 10 mins.

10/20 to start but because 6 handed hit you hard very quickly

There are 10min levels and a 1,500 starting stack.  Not 100% about all the blind levels.

And - GET IN Rookie!  No pressure then.  Easy bounty then folks.  Hehe

My only concern is that the cash games (Full ring) are only averaging 15 hands per hour, so with 10 min levels (even 6 handed) you are not going to see many hands per level.

Having said that, the tournament should have a 'better class' of player now it is packed with blondes, so maybe 6 players won't see the flop every hand!?

got 3000 played 50 minutes only got 10 big blinds pretty awful structure get it all in with Top pair on K56 againt 78 eho called for 2600 more and hit the 4. Its a nice idea but unless they increase the amount the blinds go up to at least 15 minutes dont think i will play again.

It was goin OK and then I got moved tables, 2 hands later  ;shitfanhit;

I think they could start the tournament earlier, about 7-8pm, then they have more time to sort out some televised hands and begin the live coverage at 9-9:30. That should mean they can pad the levels out a bit.

It is a fast structure and 6 handed to boot, but it is still in its infancy and i'm sure things will get tweeked along the way.  I must say I am an advocate of starting the comp a liitle earlier to get more control too of content and hand analysis.

At the moment it is fast paced, fun, interactive poker.  Is there not room for all types of poker in this market?

Out in 23rd place and a little bit of money to boot.

I like the software, very easy to use and easy on the eye. The increasing blind structure is way too fast to allow for a decent poker game. Playing 6 handed rather than 9 handed is very unusual, and accompanied with the very large blinds in proportion to the stack sizes, puts massive pressure on players simply to push all-in and hope for the best. If both these things were adjusted, then I'm sure both myself and other blondites will show you what we're really capable of. There's a lot more to poker than simply shoving all-in.

Not quite, it was AA vs A9, one 9 was dead, a 9 on the flop and a 9 on the river.

None other. He's the "Expert" on the show tomorrow (Friday) with Kara Scott as the Presenter.

Kara is the Presenter again on Sunday, and, who's a lucky boy?, I'm gonna be her "Expert Commentator". Two of our 3 guests on Sunday will be two ex Man Utd Footballers - Paul Parker & David May. I like the software, needs a few tweaks - but otherwise not bad at all.  Interesting idea to go down the Flash route rather than require a software download.

If they want 200 people playing in the timescales, then it's always going to be luck-fest.  The blinds go up so quickly that the presenter and expert looked a bit daft at times, as there's no point following the advice to play 'properly' when 'patience, patience, patience' isn't going to help you.

Maybe the better way to run it is to have satellites, into a 40-runner final that is televised?  This would cause a problem with running it every night though...  I suppose that over time the numbers might drop, and this will make the tournament more playable as well.

I think it's a cracking concept, just needs to be refined a bit.

Be serious Keith. As a Bees fan, do you seriously expect me to refer to the cretinous craw at Loftus Road? - they tried to buy out the Bees recently, as I recall. We started a "Save the Bees" campaign, & I purchased a square foot of turf from Fortress Griffin as my contribution. Cost me a quid. Our Manager at the time was Billy Gray - "all the way with Billy Gray" we used to sing. Bet they don't do chants like that these days.

The Barnsley fans forum is trying to figure out a chant for our two new Hungarian Strikers, Peter Razcji and Istvan Ferenczi (who has been nicknamed 'Steve' by his teammates).

One bright spark came up with:

Their goals
Win Games
But We Can't Pronounce Their Names
Pete 'n' Steve

I'm hoping it catches on!  rotflmfao

Just met Leslie Grantham in the "Green Room". He's a lot older than he was when I last saw him, which was about 20 years ago.

Gordon Watson is indeed a footie bloke, & not the fella from Upstairs Downstairs. In fact, it's been suggested I am thinking of Gordon Jackson. That's poppycock.

Hi all, Could you please ask tikay about his uncanny ability to do tube train impressions.

And if possible could you ask Rookie how he plans on getting up for his paper round after a late night on the programme.

Great show
