As I said on the Sky Poker thread yesterday, the Sky Poker Suits have all been reading the blonde Thread, & are taking note of your feedback. (I'll Post a detailed comment on the other thread shortly).

I'm not in "the office" today, but word reaches me that they have tweaked the Blind Structure, taking on board your comments, to make it more playable tonight.

They ARE listening to your feedback, so keep it coming please. It's a long road we travel.....

Sam is very nervous but i think will come across well on the show, Sam is a regular at the casinos in luton and has been playing over 5 years and has cashed a few times in luton festival main events.

I get to that page and beyond it.  I can pull up the tournament lobby and the list of registered players, and can see that there's money in the account.

However, once I click register, that's the message I get.

Tried 5 times now, from 2 PCs and got same result every time.

Not gonna be in tonight sadly. I hope they dont tweak the blind structure too much. Dont want it running on too late where we will  have to wait until the next night to find out the final winner or something. Plus, i dont mind the fact that its a bit crapshooty, as long as everyone knows beforehand i dont see too much of a problem, the tough part is getting chips, once you have them it isnt so much of a crapshoot. The later stages actually have a fair amount of play in them. Maybe a slight tweak - but not over the top. Keep it up :)

Despite having promised myself that I would never play with money via a web applet vs. downloadable software again, I've signed up out of sheer curiosity (and because I saw a nice streaming tv thing last night) and will probably be trying this out. 

I have to say that my PC is a dinosaur (i.e. over three years old, and not even bought new) and I am getting an error message per page change on the Sky Poker site: "A script on this page may be busy or may have stopped responding.....do you want to end it or continue?" which I think is just a way of telling me it's very slow, which is self evident.

I have broadband but I think the efficiency of the site must be linked to the efficiency of one's hardware which is a shame as simple and quick is better than shiny and slow.  I remember that my previous computer (shamefully decrepit, even in comparison to this one) stalled to the point of unusability when it tried to open more than one Tribeca table, and the sites with the sleek programming like UB and PartyPoker were the ones I could actually use.  I might go round to my Mum's to play the Open. 

Are any other people with crap computers finding it impossibly slow?

You really ought to Post more Jen. A Jen Post is like one of those goodie bags we used to buy when we were kids - you never know what you were gonna find in it.

I too was stuggling to register on the pc so i registered through my Sky set and then logged into the site.

However i cant get it to work on my lap-top due to my Norton firewall. ;technophobe;

Ah the bitter taste of defeat.  GL whomever has me (Djinnrummy) on their table as I am writing from Mother's account (Legume, as you see) having actually gone to her house to play this and spent Level One calling their Customer Services who failed to correctly configure my firewall.  So I turned it off.  No joy.  Now I am waiting for a call back in "the next hour" to see about a refund.  It was just not to be.  Enjoy the free blinds.

Yes, it is fast, but it's only a 3 hour show, & they need to get it finished before show ends. They are looking into starting the comp earlier, to allow more play, but 6 handed play is generally more aggressive. Give them a week or two to find the best "balance", they will, I'm quite sure.

Thanks Tikay, and it is great sky are open to the feedback they receive.  I think the concept is excellent and I will play again I'm sure.  Its low stakes and fun, and as your only decisions are all in or fold it is less likely I make a complete fool of myself on live tv!!!

I promise, the Sky Suits are all reading this thread, & making notes. It's tough for me to be subjective, as I've been involved with the show for nearly 4 months now one way & another, but tonight's TV show really shows they are working hard at getting it together, it's all pretty slick stuff. Remember, there are two new products here - the Cardroom, & a state of the art, never been-tried like-this-before TV Show. To get them both working seamlessly is some neat trick.

The Gallery is some sight, thats where all the techno-phobes who make it work sit, in front of banks of consoles. Average age is about 16 - truly. They make me feel old.

I believe the young lady is a Luton regular, the guy on the right (as we look) is from a TV Series. The Office? I can't recall who the other guy is. I think he's a mountaineer, or a zoo-keeper - one or the other.

It would be nice if they got three guest panel members who are pro players, that would be very helpful as their knowlege would be useful for the viewers. One of the great parts of PNL is when a guest pro comes into the studio such as when Ronald De Wolf was a guest. I think the main two presenters are doing a very good job and have a very good rapport

Brits ( and Canadians  :D) are definitely the best at poker shows.  I much prefer this style and the PNL way of presenting than some(most) of the American commentators. It is laid back and informative. Nice work . British commentators such as Barny Boatman, Gary Jones and Carlo are far easier to listen to than some lunatic American getting hyped up.

Do you think this sort of thing will be picked up by a US network?

i spose the natural quality of the yanks makes them gd commentators- which is the ability to talk without having to take breaths so there are never pauses which can make a show look amateurish!

All went smoother presenter wise tonight than yesterday. Carlo only made a few small mistakes, I'm sure most people wouldn't have even noticed, just the eagle eye over here.

Personally I don't like the way they are picking out just one hand and taking forever on it. I'd prefer to see longer stretches of play so we can see some patterns and differing styles. Maybe even follow the pro through the tournament so we can see how they play (hopefully without a bounty so they can play 100% normally). I know they do that on the final table but like the rest of the tournament there isn't that much play left there. So overall I'd say a slower structure and pick out some extended play of 1 player or table. Go through the hands quicker cos some of them are just all in pre flop, no decisions but it takes 5min to get to the river  ;sleep;

I like the show and i'll watch it as long as Kara is on it, but maybe not otherwise, maybe some expert nights like PNL does?

Oh and were the bounties 100 points tonight and not £25? There's not much point in having them then really... some people might get mistaken that 100 points is worth something ;whistle;



High stakes poker is my favourite poker show. But thats mostly the players who make it, some commentry, some commedy, oh and some poker.

Bit late to be sucking up to Murdoch for you, isn't it Simon?

The 'hotness' thing is a nice idea but won't work in the long term in the sense that the value of your hand will obviously dramatically change both with the increasing blinds, action in front of you, your position and relative skill of the other players. So if you're holding 8s 7s on the button and the action goes raise, reraise, all-in, call, the hotness rating should change to 'bag o' poo' with a picture of a parent holding a used nappy.

Elsewhere, the levels really need to be a little longer, there's no 150/300 level and tonight when I looked at the leaderboard, the guy in position 20 from the 100 or so left had about 4.8k when the blinds hit 200/400, so 12 BB's, which is not enough for this tournament to regularly be won by the better players.

I also agree with comments made last night that an earlier start would be better since you could have some hand histories all ready for when the program starts. Alternating between 6-handed and 9-handed would also be a nice change now and then too.

Carlo did make a move in Brighton on my EP raise when he shipped it over the top with A3o, Tikay wouldn't have the balls to do that!

The Hotometer was my idea, and I know it isn't perfect. It is designed to give a helping hand to beginners - not you guys. We aimed Sky Poker at a "softer" group of people than simply existing poker players, and we wanted to involve and educate them and make it easy for them to take part (so you guys can take their money if you want!).

Inevitably, we will likely begin to attract lower stakes players, but we expect this to build over time as we improve and as we market the hell out of it.

The reason for tables of 6 is very simple. As well as being able to play online, you can play on iDTV. The iDTV technology cannot comfortably handle more than 6 players (as it would look too small on a screen you are watching from your sofa for example), and so where online and TV players are combined (as in The Open), we need to limit it to 6 per table. We have tried to balance the need for skill (which you guys prize dearly) with the ability for a newbie to get a run for their money and perhaps to win something with a bit of luck in their favour. We'll keep tweaking till you're happy.

As for varying table sizes and speeds of play and start times, we'll mess around with this to suit beginners on some nightd and online-only experienced players on other nights.

Just wanted to add that the customer services gent and lady I spoke to were very helpful, and no-one expects a New Thing to be totally problem-free right away.  I got my tenner back.  Sad I didn't get to play/let my mum play as the Old Lady Avatar, though. 

The 6-handed explanation works for me, as does the structure reasoning, thanks Mr. Suit.  Y'all know what you're getting, so just enjoy the experience or save your pennies for something which has the flexibility to give a multiple-hundred field the extra 'play.'  It's not the Stars deepstack, but that's not the point.

Good luck all involved, and I'll be watching the tikay ones.  Probably.

You could easily fit 10 handed on a TV. I am not bothered about it being 6 handed though, nice for a change, but I do hope the structure gets improved, like NoFlopsHomer said, in particular the jump to 200-400. (That's when I went out).

I played on the TV before to test it and it worked well until a reminder popped up and disconnected me. There is plenty of room to make it 8 handed without resizing anything, and a little tweaking to make it 10 handed without anything being reduced in size so much that it would make a difference to anyone. But like I said, I don't mind the open being 6 handed. It would just be nice to have to 10 handed ring games with the digi box fish on ;)

Well speaking as someone who took a bounty last night I still don't know what the prize was.    I don't seem to have received anything be it money or points!   :dontask:

I've also enquired as to why it seems my credit card seems to have been debited an extra 10% above the amount that I originally deposited. It definitely says free of charge when you deposit

Well when they say free of charge, they mean that they won't charge you. That unfortunately doesn't mean your credit card won't charge you, it depends on your credit card's policy, my Egg card charges for all gaming transactions (a lot of cards do and I think it's increasing), so I use debit these days.

The points are pretty worthless aren't they? Especially just 100 points. 100 points gets you into a £100 freeroll, if 100 people enter, then it's worth about £1 give or take.

New players might not realise this and over value them, taking chances in getting knocked out to win the very appealing bounty. And if they get knocked out doing it they will be a bit peeved to find out that it was for £1. And if they win the bounty the will probably be even more peeved to find out it's only £1 ;)

If I'm mistaken in the value of the bounties then I'll need to re-evaluate my POV. But if they were just 100 points, they aren't worth the air time surely?

I might be wrong, but my understanding was that the bounties were still £25.  Was it the spot prizes that were 100 points?
