Bit mundane, but does anyone fancy having a guess at the first exit?

Rob Garfield is lowest, but I reckon David Lloyd could be the first one to exit stage left.

Blinds are 400/800 for another 18 minutes.

Rob Garfield is in fighting spirits. I was talking to him about whether he can let the blinds pass. With 4,700 and blinds of 400/800, he could let them pass and still have a pot raise in him, but from the sound of it, it looks like he'll be shoving them in before that. He's on the button, so I'll be hanging around that table like a vulture early doors.

He was doing okay last night until he found A-Q with 30 minutes to go. He raised from the cut-off and received one caller in the small blind. Flop came Q-J-x all hearts (Rob had the Ace of Hearts). Small blind checked, Rob bet 4k, small blind made it 8k, all the chips went in. Small blind took it down with K-4 of hearts - hard to put him on that hand.

Greek Jack, Mrs Javadi & Pras in that order.... George Geary to bubble

Chris Gavriel for the 500-1 each way outsider bet

Greek Jack's a little disappointed too, he was up to 80k midway through Day 1, but had Queens outdrawn by J-T on a Ten high flop, before running those Sevens (which he re-raised with) into Adam Stoneman's Queens. "I was on tilt at that point," confessed Jack.

He's still running okay though with over 30k in chips.

Harpit wasn't too chuffed that you left him out of his top three and Alan Davies commented, "Aah, James, isn't the best judge." I think should take him out of third spot for that, James.

Well theres 2 of em for a start. Which is a bit of an advantage. But they regulalry knock of 20 pounders at Walsall and have won several bigger events over the years going back to the Rainbow...if memory serves me right he won the last big one at the Broadway?

P Child is the first casulaty. I thought it was my pick (to exit) David Lloyd with the A-K, but it was his neighbour instead.

Iwan Jones had A-Q down the other end of the table and spiked a Queen on the Turn of a 9-7-5-Q-3 board.

Harsh one.

Looks like El BLondie has anti-bokked Chris Gavriel because he's just doubled up, in emphatic style too.

All-in on the Turn with the board showing 4s 3s Qs 4h, P Green's Pocket Kings were no match for Chris's flopped flush, Aspades 2s.

S Javadi takes a chunky pot off Ash Hussain, he checked-called her 5k bets on the flop and turn of a Ac Qs 5h Jd 8h board but folded to her 15k bet on the river.

Title: Re: Broadway Festival: Day 2 - Interactive
Post by: snoopy1239 on February 11, 2007, 02:29:47 PM
Board  = Qh Jc 8c Js

Greek Jack checks, S Javadi bets 16k, Jack moves in for 13.5k more and Javadi makes the expected call.

Jack turns over Pocket Eights, but it's not over just yet because Javadi has A-J.

No Ace on the River and Jack doubles through.

Big sigh of relief at the end too, so he's clearly feeling the tension.

A dark horse to win perhaps?

Rob Garfield has several k in front of him now from his initial 4,700.

"Is that a double up," I asked.

"Well, effectively," he replied. "Won a few hands and had a walk in the blind."

Matt Tyler is OUT.

Got himself in a sticky position with not toooooo many outs in the pack.

All-in on a board of Td Jd Aspades Qd, Matt's Kd Kc was looking rather vulnerable against Mick McCool's Ad 3d.

As Karl and me said, "He had the 9 of Diamonds to hit, not sure what he was standing up for."

Harpit Gurnham was all-in and called by N Judah and Adam Stoneham who proceeded to check down the 3c Kh Jc 4s Qh board since both couldn't re-raise the other out of the pot preflop due to the under-raise all-in.

Harpit:

Stoneham:

Judah:

Harpit is OUT.

John Shipley makes it 3k in MP, Henning Grandstad calls from the Cut-off and that brings both the blinds in.

Flop:

Js 3h 4h

Both blinds check, John Shipley bets 4.5k, Henning calls, the blinds both fold.

Turn:

9s

Shipley checks, Henning pushes all-in, Shipley calls immediately.

Henning:

Jc Tc

Shipley:

Ac Ahrt

River:

Henning Grandstad is therefore OUT.

Big big big big big fold from Chris Gavriel.

Board reads 2s 3d Qs 6h

Chris bets 9k, Tim makes it 20k and Chris calls.

River = 6s

Tim Blake moves all-in for around 50k (Although Chris only has around 45k).

Chris (pictured below) thinks and thinks for absolute age before eventually (and I mean eventually because Mick McCool had already called for the clock) folding.

Chris reveals Pocket Twos for a full house, whilst I later learn that Tim had 9s 8s for the Rivered flush.

Shaf was in the small blind with John in the big, and with the flop coming 3h Kc 3s spiking a pair for Shaf, it was looking pretty good for the Northerner until the Turn brought a rather dangerous 4s. But there was no need to fret as the River brought the 3d.

Adam Wilkinson, who I am finding it hard to pigeon hole as a tight or loose player, raises to 6k pre-flop, only for Mick McCool to call from the button with 9c 9d.

Adam then casually announces all-in with a slight shrug when the Flop bring out an 8h 6c Ah.

With a huff, Mick folds his hand face up, but Adam didn't return the gesture, promptly mucking his hand.

As a result of that encounter, Mick is down to 20,000 and starting to struggle with the blinds now at a rather chunky 1,000/2,000.

Still 20 players left and 15 more minutes at this level before the blinds go to 1.5k/3k. If they are this slow going out now, God help us when we get to the bubble, though it does speak volumes about the great structure they have in place here.

And we finally have an exit, this time the aforementioned Adam Wilkinson. Cheeky Cockney David Lloyd had raised to 6,500 pre-flop from earlyish position, only for Adam to move in from the small blind for another 25-30k. "Do you want a call?" asked Lloyd predictably, to which Adam replied, "I'm not bothered, it's up to you." Well it was up to him, and he quickly decided to chuck in his remaining column and reveal his A-K, which was well ahead of Adam's paltry A-J. King on the flop was empahtic and we've lost the man who won the opening event of this festival.

Just watched Markus the scandiekid who is very Agreeeesive raise to 8k, P Green made it 20k commiting himself and Trevor Reardon seemed to dwell for a minute as though he had Queens or Jacks and had a difficult decision. Actually he was holding  Aspades Ahrt and was merely trying to get Markus to call him when he pushed by trying to feign weakness. P Green was holding Ad 8h and the 7s 2c 5d Kh 6c board sent him home and Trevor added another 40k or so to his stack.

Trevor Reardon, who, in this comp anyhow, is challenging Carlo Citrone for the King of the Dwell title, has just been forced into the think tank once more, this time courtesy of Chris Gavriel, who had bet 50k (pretty much all of Trevor's chips) on a board of Aspades Jc 7c 9s 4s. Trevor thought and thought with neighbour Chris in a deep trance, hands over mouth (as seen in the photo below), until Big TR eventually made the fold, although he certainly wasn't happy, pushing his cards into the muck with some force and blowing steam through his ears in a fit of internal rage.

Not surprisingly, it's slowed down a little here with the bubble looming. The banter's still in full flow, Simon Zach commenting that "George is older than everyone else at the table combined." before adding, "The Iceman was playing cards when I was in nappies."

I daren't ask how long ago that was, hopefully not weeks for Simon's sake.

Still on the bubble, and if anything, I forsee the last pre-final table exit coming from the six handed table, especially with Chris Gavriel seemingly unkeen to hang around with less than average chips. However, he just won an extra 20k, re-raising Pihljamaraa's 14 pre-flop raise to 69,500 all-in.

Incidentally, Trevor seems to be a lot happier now.

Santhe Somaratine is similarly low, last seen moving all-in for 35.5k on Simon Zach's blind. Zach thought about it for a while (even rising from his seat, which was highly exciting for those hoping for action), but eventually decided that it was too much to call.

Game on!

Short stack Dave Lloyd moves all-in twice in a row and takes the blinds both times.

I can see now why they went for the overly top heavy structure.

Playing this thing out to a finish would take till Thursday - they need a deal to be able to get it finished by the time the place closes.

And the bubble has been......

Broken!!!

Santhe Somaratine moved all-in from the cut-off and was called by Shaf in the small blind

Santhe:

7s 7h

Shaf:

Ad Kh

Board:

8h Ahrt 5d 9d 5h.

So Santhe is our bubble boy.

Redraw, chip counts and pictures of the finalists to follow.

Trevor Reardon bets out 13.5k from early position and S Javadi (who surely must have a decent hand to take on Big TR), moves all-in from the small blind. Trev calls as if he was in a Benny Hill sketch, only to reveal the same hand as his female foe. A 9-9-6-8-T, no flushes, chopppy choppy.

While we were still on the bubble, he raised preflop with Kings and was re-raised by Henning but played it cautiously by check/calling the flop and making a small un-called value bet on the river after both checked the turn. I think that took him over the 200k point.

After some pre-flop action, P Pihlajamaa (cut off -1) and Mohammed Shaffiq (button) saw a Flop of 7c 4d Td, which was then checked down through the 4s Turn and Tc River before the dealer chopped it up, both men holding A-Q.

Despite the bubble bursting, the shorter stacks haven't gone crazy yet and everyone is still pretty tight. I just did a 20 minute stint up top and every hand was raise followed by more passing than a bad Mastermind contestant. Blinds are 4k/8k for the next 20 minutes and then we go to 5k/10k which is when people start to feel the pinch I reckon....

hi snoops just got home and reading thro the great updates. Naturally gutted to go out to the as you say "speculative" call with K10. Still it was fun while it lasted. Interesting to read the various comments on the "amazing fold" hand when the guy folded the house. He says he put me on 33 and therefore thought he was behind. What the report didn't say was that I had check raised with a more than pot sized bet the turn so you have to wonder why the call and then fold? If you think you are in front on the turn then how the **** can you be behind on the river, other than of course to quad 6s. Good poker? Bad poker? Perhaps as it turned out he should have called and the missus wouldn't have had chance to lose so much in the casino lol!

Keep it up guys!

Lots more passing though Simon Zach seems to be ahead in the 'Steal the Blinds' game, I think the tight table has even affected Markus and Henning who haven't been raising much either. Finally last hand before the blinds went to 5k/10k S Javadi pushed here last 32k, Shaf, as CL, felt compelled to call with his half-wilson 7h 4h. Javadi was holding Js Jd though.

Board:

9s 5d 5h Ahrt Tc

Couldn't agree more, he called the bet then hit HIS dream card on the River. He must have thought he had a read on you when you moved in on the River. Still, I don't think you can ever be that sure to fold to the all-in once calling the re-raise on the Turn.

Bad luck on your exit. Tough one to swallow.

We would if we had some, but with a lot of the shorter stacks clinging on, the bigger stacks of Shaf, Zach and the like are deciding not to go after each other just yet, therefore there's a lot of 'first raise wins the pot' type shennanigans. If a couple more of the shorter stacks go out soon, we'll certainly see some more flops played.

More on the Simon Zach/Praz Bansi hand, the preflop action didn't just go all-in/call apparently, Simon made it 40k from the button and Praz made it 100k from the big blind and Simon pushed his remaing chips with the Qh Jh knowing full well he was getting called for the last 20k or so. Makes it seem a lot sicker from Praz' point of view.

Title: Re: Broadway Festival: Day 2 - Interactive

Here's a mid-break David Lloyd (reluctantly photoed).

"I think Simon made a bit of a boo boo on that Pras hand. He raised pre-flop with Q-Js, which is fair enough, but once Pras has made the re-raise with the sevens, he's gotta let it go knowing that Pras is committed if he were to move over the top. But, I think he looked at the prize structure, thought 'It's only a grand between the places' and decided to gamble. I'm not sure that's the best way to look at it though when you've been playing this long."

Title: Re: Broadway Festival: Day 2 - Interactive

The blinds are now 8/16k.

When asked about the potential chip count at 5.30pm, David Lloyd didn't seem to worries, adding, "It'll be chopped up with four players left, I doubt we'll make it to 5.30."

I'm not surprised with tbh considering the top heavy structure.

Having dwindled to a tiny stack he pushed  his last 15k in from the cut-off and was called by Simon Zach, Henning Bolstad and Praz Bansi. The three then checked the 2s Kd Th 7d 3d board which was won by a mile by Simon's Ad Qd. Never got to see George's cards.

Over to Snoopy...

David Lloyd is OUT and becomes the 6th place finisher winning £5,580

With the blinds at 8/16k, Simon Zach went 16 with 16 and David Lloyd called from the big blind.

Flop = Qs 5d 4c

All the chips flew in.

Lloyd = Ks Qc

Zach = 4d 4h

Turn = 4s

River = 8s

"So, just the quads then?" commented Lloyd. "I hit my card, had to push. Should have re-raised pre-flop"

Wow, it's carnage now.

Trevor Reardon is OUT and is our 5th place finisher winning £6,975

He made a stand with Jd Jc but Simon Zach called with Ac Ks

Board:

Kd 2d 3c 3d 3s

Simon has since been telling Praz that he virtually called all-in with the Qh Jh because he wanted to "play for the top 3 spots and nothing else."

I love poker, sometimes it's so surprising, after we grinded for what seemed like 5 or 6 hours with only 1 person going out, it's all sprung into life.

Henning Bolstad is our 4th place finisher winning £9,300

And it was one of those 'one up the bum' jobbies.

He pushed from the small blind with Ad 5h and Praz asked how much but then said, "Call."

Praz showed Aspades 5s. You know what's coming don't you...

Flop:

8s Qs Tc 7s Kd

Ouch!

Mohammed Shaffiq is OUT and becomes the 3rd place finisher winning £11,625

Shaf made it 70k from the button, Praz moved all-in and Shaf called.

Q-Jo vs 7-7

Board = 6-9-7-A-Q

Heads up now between Zach and Pransi.

Praz and Simon have been discussing a deal for the last several minutes. Praz has the chip lead, approximately 800k to Simon's 600k and wants more money than what was initially offered. Funnily enough though, neither are too keen to gamble for that 20k difference.

Title: Re: Broadway Festival: Day 2 - Interactive
Post by: snoopy1239 on February 12, 2007, 02:17:05 AM
Well, incredibly, it appears as though this questioned structure is going to be played out, as neither Simon nor Praz can agree to a deal, the latter wanting a few more thousand than initially offered and the former not too willing to give it. A bit of a stand off therefore means... GAME ON!

"Isn't it exciting!" says Zach.

According to Karl Marenholtz, one of the reasons Praz is not too keen on a deal is because apparently if he wins here, he'll go top of the rankings. Seems a fair enough reason to you guys?

Is that the new Rankings?  Just started (anyone recall when?) - it makes a difference if it's beginning/middle/end of points battle- the more events left to play presumably the less important it is to have the temporary top spot now (especially for a player like Praz)...

Bizarre hand early doors in this heads-up confrontation.

Both players see a cheap flop of 6c Ts 2h.

Praz bets 16k and Simon moves all-in for around 550k.

A long dwell from Praz, who tries to get some info out of Simon with the verbal.

"Will you show if I pass?" he asks.

"No," answers Zach.

Zach then goes on to say things like...

"Oh just pass, I know you're going to pass."

"I just want to get to the bar."

and so on.

He even asks a valet for a glass of still water from the bar.

Anyhow, Praz eventually passes, showing a Ten in the process. Zach also shows a Ten, but it's backed up by a 6.

According to Karl, who was watching from the rail, Praz had T-2 for a smaller two pair.

Easy pass?

1st is roughly £32k while 2nd is about £13k

A few hands now,

First on a Kd Tc 7s 2s board Praz bets 16k and is check/raised by Simon to 75k, both check the 7c river where Simon's Kc 5s is good.

Praz raises and takes the blinds.

Simon folds the small blind.

Praz folds the small blind.

Simon raises and takes the blinds.

Praz makes up the blinds and we see a Kh 3h 9s flop. Simon check/calls Praz' 20k bet. They both check the 6h turn. Simon checks the Ahrt river and Praz bets 50k. Simon moves all-in and Praz folds.

Finally Simon makes up and Praz checks, they check down a Ac Jh 4s Qc board until the Aspades river where Praz bets 50k and Simon quickly calls, Praz has Qd 5h, Simon has Qs 9h. Chop that one.

Here's the guys in action, despite no deal, it's all very pleasant and friendly.

Still level pegging. Blinds now 10/20k (and capped).

Lots of action, but very back and forth, not too many hands reaching the river.

Last 3 hands:

(1) Praz raises 60k, Simon calls. 8h-7d-6d Flop. Check, check. 9s Turn. Simon bets 90k and Praz folds. Simon shows T-9.

(2) 4-8-5 rainbow Flop. Praz checks, Simons bets 30k, Praz calls. 4d Turn. Simon bets 80k, Praz folds.

(3) Jc 9c 5d Flop. Praz bets 30k, called. 4h Turn. Praz bets 70k. Folds.

Bit of needling going on at the moment. Praz calling Simon a card rack, higlighting his play with the Q-J earlier - and I'm pretty sure Simon is saying similar things in return. All playful, but I think Praz is gently prodding Simon into making an error.

Title: Re: Broadway Festival: Day 2 - Interactive
Post by: NoflopsHomer on February 12, 2007, 02:59:28 AM
Praz raises to 60k and Simon calls, but the latter check/folds to Praz' 50k bet on the Th Td 8h flop.

Next hand Simon raises to 55k, Praz makes it 150k and Simon moves all-in, Praz thinks for AGES and Simon says, "You're behind, you've thought this long, you've still got 380 odd..." Praz passes after Simon calls the clock.

Rough chips counts:

Praz -- 400k
Simon -- 1mil

Title: Re: Broadway Festival: Day 2 - Interactive
Post by: snoopy1239 on February 12, 2007, 03:02:20 AM
After dropping a few chips, Praz has virtually doubled back up.

Praz raised pre-flop and Simon called.

Flop = 2d Kc 4h

Praz bet 75k, Simon called.

Turn = 3h

Check, check.

River = 7h

Praz (first to go) bets 140k (leaving himself just 100k behind) and Simon calls.

Praz takes the pot with Kd 9h.

Back to even stevens.

"Gotta hit sooner or later," he adds.

I was watching a couple of mundane, raise/pass hands then in an unraised pot the players saw this flop:

8s 5d 7s

Simon checks, Praz bets 20k, Simon min-raises to 40k. Praz moves in, Simon calls instantly.

Praz:

9s 4s

Wow huge drawing hand, except...

Simon:

9d 6s

Turn:

8d

River:

2s

So Praz has doubled up and Simon is on the respirator.

Simon Zach is now right down low with just 150k-200k after paying off Praz's flopped two pair (K-4) on a K-4-7-8-8 board.

"I thought the Eights had done me," exhaled a relieved Praz.

Well, that's a wrap folks. We were a bit concerned for a moment there that it was going to be a 5.30pm jobby, but more worringly, a chip count, which is never a good end to any Main Event.

However, final table exits are like buses, and even though we had a two hour wait for the bubble and a 10 man final for what seemed like an age, we somehow managed to lose 6 players in the space of 30 minutes. Quite incredible, they all just went antsy in their pantsy!

But when the smoke cleared and the dust settled, no one was surprised to see Praz Bansi as the last man standing. Simon Zach was a destructive force on the final table, but when it came down to it, he lost a 20k pot as a 2-1 fave when Praz hit that flush draw. Pretty harsh really when you consider what was at stake and it's a shame that it came down to a hand like that.

But Praz fully deserved his victory and has proved that he is no flash in the pan, backing up his WSOP bracelet win with impressive triumphs in both this comp and the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Event in Bolton. Also, I believe that puts him at the top of the rankings, so he truly is the man in form.

That just leaves me to thank Mr Floppy and everyone at the Broadway for their help. It was a bit touch and go whether we were going to be here, but once it was confirmed that we would be allowed to update, Raj and his team were highly accomodating and very pleasant towards us.

We're genuinely exhausted here, and I'm not sure I can quite contemplate the 4 day Walsall Event just yet without becoming a bit daunted of the prospect of another lenghty update, so I'm going to have to leave you with five immortal words...
