Title: Unusual Hand...How Did I Do? Post by: Canuck on February 13, 2007, 09:31:48 PM This is a hand from a .50 - 1 cash game 6 handed table on stars today.
No real info on villain but I have been tight and aggressive. I am sitting on $120, villain is on about $90. I am on the button with Th Td and the UTG limps for $1. The others fold to me. I make it $5 to play. The small blind and big blind both fold, UTG calls. Flop comes 9d 7d 6h He checks, I bet $11. He check raises the minimum to $22. I call Turn is 8h giving me the straight. He checks, I bet $19, he calls. River is 8s. He checks. I checked behind fearing the full house. He mucked 8d 5h for the straight on the flop and then the idiot end of straight on the turn. A few questions. Did I bet too much on the flop? Should I have bet the turn? Should I have checked the river? Title: Re: Unusual Hand...How Did I Do? His check-min-raise is a strange play (as is his play pre-flop really, but some will disagree). Title: Re: Unusual Hand...How Did I Do? Post by: Smart Money on February 14, 2007, 09:41:05 PM Pre-flop and flop bets are good.
As you asked, you absolutely 100% have to bet the turn. However you should probably have bet a little more, as usually any hand that is going to call your turn bet is getting great odds to do so. Betting the river is a little more subjective, but generally it is worth a value bet here as anyone with a FH will have bet into you 90% of the time. Often in this situation your decision should be made depending on your read of his hand strength- which can't be gauged from the hand history alone. An experienced player can often read a lot from the speed of his opponents' actions- which is a lot harder to disguise than it looks. (I personally believe it is much easier to get a read on an opponent at the cash tables than it is playing a tournament.) Title: Re: Unusual Hand...How Did I Do? Post by: Swordpoker on February 15, 2007, 07:18:50 AM I think you played it well. If you were to bet the river then you'd have to be prepared for the reraise and make your decisions on how big a bet you'd be prepared to call. I'd have done the same as you and checked the river.
