Saw Flushy earlier looking at the TV screens, where they have the players listed as 171 but the blinds haven't been reset from their 600/1,200 level from yesterday.  He was rubbing his hands together, saying, "Grosvenor have finally listened to my points for improvement - starting the blinds at 6/12 so you skip all that deepstack rubbish and go straight to the pushing bit.  I love it."

We'll have a final number on entries when they do eventually start, but it looks like the whole Bluesquare GUKPT tour is already a sell-out monster (4 days now at each location).

First hand elimination news now (just like yesterday) with a flush draw which didn't hit against Kings (the reverse of yesterday).  The OUT player is Chris Wright, and the early leader is Toni Dicesare...

Three the number of eliminations early in level One - one was Jim Reid, falling to the Camel after he (Keith) raised blind preflop, resulting, somehow, in all the chips getting in.  That would be a much better story if I had the details.

So far a handful of players listed on the GUKPT website have been replaced by alternates who were actually here at the start -

Osman Mustanoglu
Stasia Xanthos
? Rausbav
? Peykar
Brynn Lacey
Anthony Mackay
Brian Johnson
? Wood

Osman and Anthony were traffic latecomers yesterday, who've gotten to play after all.

M Moronpachon has just doubled up leaving Nigel Ung with a paltry 500 chips.

I joined the action with the board reading Qh 6c Ahrt Jd 2s. Nigel made a smallish bet of 2k, only for Moronpachon to move all-in for an extra 2k. Nigel called, showed an Ace, but quickly mucked when his opponent revealed Pocket Sixes, to the surprise of no one.

---------------------

Dubai is OUT.

Dave Shallow made "his standard raise" (according to Pete Linton), Dave Clark raised to 1k, Mark Hawkins called and Dubai moved all-in for another 2.8k. Dave Clark flat-called, Hawko moved all-in and Clark called again.

The hands?

Dubai = A-Q

Hawko = J-J

Clark (Oh how I wish he had Fives so I could say Dave Clarke's Fives) = A-K

No problemo for Hawko as the board came rag, rag, rag, rag, Jack for an emphatic victory and a newly obtained 20k+ stack.

------------------------

Some early pace setters:

Toni Decesari -- 21,350
Yucil Eminoglu -- 20,450
Mark Hawkins -- 20k+
Marc Goodwin -- 19,100
Paul Vicary -- 18,700
Neil Hosell -- 17,200
Alan Dean -- 14,625

Early chip counts from a table with so much blonde interest on it it may as well be the Feature Table (for this half-hour period at least):

Martin Cheese           9,800
Simon Zach              9,700
Ken Powell               10,350
Michael Ellis               10,800
David Mobbs             13,100
Paul Dobson             10,000  (Having just taken a 3k pot on the river from Zach)
Steven Piddock         10,925
James Dempsey         9,450
Neil Fox                     4,250
Osman Mustanoglu      8,200

Pictured:  Flushy and Neil Fox showing through mime what they think of one another...

More of those chip counts that were requested:

Jeff Buffenbarger -- 9,700
Paul Alterman -- 10,350
Jon Hewston -- 9,350
Ken Powell -- 7,525
James Dempsey -- 10,225
Justin Turner -- 9,900
Ed Arees -- 10,900
Dave Shelley -- 6,750
JP Kelly -- 18,300
Rob Garfield -- 8,325

Harpit Gurnham is OUT.

Lots of limpers, so Harpit decides to raise it up with A-Q, a move that neighbour A Sapiano calls with A-7.

The Flop comes A-A-x, Sapiano bets 1.8k, Gurnham understandably moves all-in, only for Sapiano to call.

7 on the Turn and that's all she wrote for the Welshman

JP Kelly just raced his Ad Kd against an all-in preflop (for 7k) holding 9s 9d, spiking the King on the river and bumping him into the probable chip lead, on around 27,000.

Couple of other counts:
Richard Redmond    11,800
David Shelley           7,700
Paul Moss                3,275  (these three on same table)
James Atkin             4,100
Joe Beevers            10,100
Carlo Citrone            9,300
Jerome Bradpiece     12,500
Chris Sokrati            23,000

--------------------

The following players have all bitten the dust:

Terry Nelson
Nigel Ong
Greek Jack
Paul Morrow
Andy Wright
Jaime Ponte

Chip leaders:

Alistair Woods -- 30,350
Chris Sokrati -- 30,325
Mark Herron -- 27,250
Mark Hawkins -- 24,400
Ky Hutchinson -- 22,425
Neil Hossell -- 20,725

The chip lead has a surprise new tenant - Ed Giddens, who's had "three big hands" in quick succession to reach the 30k mark first...

1)  He held T-Q and went for a call of 600 on a 4-8-9 flop, which brought, on the turn, a flush draw, and on the river, a Queen-high flush, which he was paid to the tune of 1,500.  This story was prefaced with, "I called with a gutshot," and I was fully expecting that to be hit at the end of the story and consider a flush, though higher-ranking, to be a poor substitute.

2)  His 3s 3d spiked a set on the flop, eventually getting the whole stack of the Jc Js who was against him.

3)  He saw a 7-handed limp flop(!) on the Button with 6-8.  Extraordinarily, the A-6-3 flop was checked round.  The turn brought another Six, and Ed Giddens faced a tight player betting out 600, another rock* raising to 1,500, and a call from Burnley John.  So what seemed like the best plan?  Min raise- of course!  This resulted, somehow, in three passes, including a Six in Burnley's hand.

*I would just like to add that all player categorisation is Ed Giddens' own.

The Mark Herron Story:

He's decided to call under the gun with 5h 7h, so the raise to 500 is obviously following when it happens (blinds were 50/100 at the time).
Flop:  6d 9h Jc  Looking good!  His opponent, Jonathan Farrer (I think) bets 800 when it's checked to him, and Mark raises then to 2,600.  Flat call.
Turn:  9s  Now Mark has to keep up the story, right?  Bets out 2,600.  Flat call.  (Strange and Stranger.) It's about now that I can imagine a certain resignation descending on Mr. Herron, as he realises he only has 2,300 left.
River:  8d (Hallelujah - Probably) In any case, the last bit goes in and is called, and the Gutshot straight (which was the winning hand, as it turned out) pushed him up to the top of the field in chips while Jonathan has just a couple of thousand left.

Peter Smyth has near doubled up to 17k.

Flop was

Smyth bets 2.5k, Hossell makes it 5k and Smyth, after a slight huff (although I believe it was genuine) moved all-in for an extra 2.8k.

17k pot, 2.8k more, can you fold?

Bad Girl was adamant that you can't, and she might be right with that flush draw on board. Anyhow, Hossell did fold after being given stick for some 'trapped in the cookie jarness' by his fellow tablemates.

And here is that table...

Neil Hossell -- 10,725
Raj Patel -- 17,850
Praz Bansi -- 14,200
A Sapiano -- missing
Xuyen Pham -- 9,225
Mallissa Clifford -- 7,850
Jeff Buffenbarger -- 7,150
Keith Hawkins -- 14,900
Peter Smyth -- 17,650
Liam Flood -- 17,350

good evening snoops and jen ,great updates as usuall ,if you can see this mesage could you give me the chip counts ov

burnley john and john exley plz ,thx.

Burnley John has around 15,000.  He just picked up a few more doing this:

Alistair Woods bets out on the flop of:  Js 4s 5c - John calls.
Turn:  4h.  Alistair checks, now Burnley bets 1,100.  Call.
River:  8d.  Check again, now John makes it 1,600.  Eventually Alistair calls and gets to see the 6s 8s with which John called, hit, and in the end took the pot.

John Exley is OUT.

Add these to the list of players who are not playing any more because they don't have any chips left:

Tony Adderley
Mick Clarke
A. Sapiano
Harprit Gurnam
Glyn Rees
Fraser MacIntyre
Stephen Millar
Pete Linton
Mark Hawkins
Matt Cartwright
Brandon Duffy
Justin Turner
John Keown
Paul Mervin
Andy Wright
Lee Atherton
Terry Nelson
Andrew Goode

And, just now, Jim Kerrigan, with 3d 3s which you'd think would be delighted with an A-A-3 flop.  But no, opponent with A-3 and he's on his way out.

--------------

Ken Powell -- 16,275
Simon Zach -- 12,950
Stevie Reeves -- 5,350
Jim Kerrigan -- out
Jon Hewston -- 11,550
Colin Gerrard -- 23,125

Richard Owen is OUT, making his swan song with A-K vs K-K, all-in pre-flop.

Jeff Buffenbarger has doubled up after surviving a K-Q vs Hossell's Q-J encounter (J-9-6-Q-5 board). Unfortunately he's still only on 3,850, but he remains confident. "One more of those and I'm back in the game," he exclaims.

------------

Word on the grapevine is that whilst Ross Boatman has doubled up to just under 30k, Burnley John Falconer has exited stage left courtesy of Welshman Martyn Cavanagh whose Pocket Aces were no match for John's Nines.

-------------

Flushy adds to his stack.

Brian Welby the unlucky victim.

Flop = 2h 6h 7d

Flushy calls a 5.5k bet with Qh 7h, not in too much trouble against Brian's Jacks.

But Flushy sure is greedy, Two Pair on the Turn and then a Flush on the River.

Now approaching 40k.

any news on dave shelley....he was on 10k last time I heard...he's tighter than a nun's crevice you know.

thanks

Dave Shelley      9,450  (stacked so neatly it's a bit worrying)

And these counts, which you didn't ask for, but they were near:
Osman Mustanoglu   9,800
James Browning       8,650
Stasia Xanthos         7,800
Paul Moss               7,000 (not out, as I might have said before)
Paul King                23,000
Ash Hussain            16,500

Paul has been moved to Ash's immediate left, and they were comparing short stack comebacks.  "I could be Climber of the Day," says Paul King, who's done it many a time before.  "Down to just a couple of thousand..."
"Me too," says Ash, "But I did it on purpose."

Back on table Blogger and BA Kildalen gets involved with Nick Hicks - again.  Right at the start he asked me if there was anyone he didn't already know that he should keep an eye on, and I said, "that guy in the hat."  About two levels on, and BA had picked off that early bluff from Nick, whom he said, "plays like a Scandie," which is, I believe, a compliment...

Anyway, they see a flop of Jh 9c Ks, and I think (although please correct me if I'm wrong) it was checked.  The pot wasn't big, in any case, when the 2h came on the turn.  BA checked, Nick bet 1,100, BA called.
River:  6s Check again, Nick just shows his Jc Kh, resisting the possible value bet (oddly?).  BA shows Kh Qh, which must have looked better on the turn.

One all.

K-K (his)

Mad Turk is OUT after being taken down by Broadway third place finisher, Mohammed Shafiq.

Adam Stoneman flopped a Royal flush but couldn't get paid off by opponent C Constantinou, to Adam's dismay.

John Hewston did indeed double up to 22k when his Aces Flopped an Ace against Jacks. He's now on 20k.

Big hand for Marc Goodwin, who gave a totally convincing impersonation (to me) of a player re-stealing from the blinds - putting an extra 7,000 over the top of Matey's preflop raise.  He found a push in against him, and either this player (whom we thought was Driton Haxhiaj but probably wasn't seeing as he had 2k last time Snoopy reported) was really, really tight or Marc saying "Oh deary me," was on his opponent's behalf...
Marc called showing Kc Kh.  He was up against Qd Qc.
Flop:  9c 3h Qs
Turn and river: 6h 6d  and Mr. Cool has just 3,000 left as the blinds are about to be raised to 200/400 ante 50.

-----------------------

Rug (he says his followers will recognise the moniker) has eliminated Irishman Ken 'KPNuts' Powell with A-K vs Q-J. T-T-8-3-5 Flop.

JP down to 8k after (eventually) calling a bettor holding A4 on an A-J-5-3-K board, but finding that mediocre hand good enough...
The Camel is out after having to stick the rest of his bowl of rice in with Ac 9c.  Joe Koumi had already raised to 1,200, and the 2,025 total wasn't getting rid of him, even when Keith cried, "Please fold.  Fold.  Please."
Joe called, showing Ahrt 8c.  "Oh, no, call with that," revises Camel.
The flop brought an 8d, however, and even though he picked up a straight draw of sorts on the turn, it didn't come, and he finishes in 105th place.

James Atkin is no more - saw him standing up and it looked like that was my cue to come watch some chips change hands...when I got there it appeared James wasn't in bad shape, all in over the top of Con Cronin (who held 9c 9d) with his Js Jc...It was up to John Conroy to call all-in, however, before he saw what they had, and eventually he decided he'd been priced in and called with Aspades Qs.
"Anyone fold an Ace?" asks James quietly..."Or a Queen?"

Flop:  Qh 5h Qd
Turn:  3s
River:  8d

They good-naturedly chatted about it after that (while Conroy stacked his new wealth and Con Cronin consolidated his 3,700) until James confided, "I have to go now.  I'm out."

Paul Dobson has jumped into second chip lead after a raising war with Tens on a T-9-8 Flop. His opponent had J-Q for the made straight, but a Jack on the Turn and a crowd gasp inducing Jack on the Turn on the River gave Dobson the Full House and the 58k pot.

-----------------

Ciaran Burke is OUT.

He had 6k left and made his move with Q-J, but ran into a domineering A-J.

He was unlucky earlier on though, running Queens into Kings on a Q-K-x Flop.

------------------

Irina L is OUT.

Meanwhile, Praz Bansi, who I wouldn't be afraid to put my last dime out, has doubled up courtesy of Peter Smyth with A-K vs A-Q, the board coming all-rag with the exception of a King on the River.

Simon Zach is OUT.

Adopted Welshman, Ed Arees, was the sniper.

Zach raised with A-Q, Ed re-raised with Kings, Zach moved all-in, Ed called.

No help.

------------------

Paul King has also doubled through, eliminating an opponent in the process.

A-T vs K-Q, all-in pre-flop, Q-7-8-9-A

Just as I was starting to describe BA Kildalen as a "Scandie rock" to the press corps, we were brought a story of his doubling up from a dwindly 11k to 22k.  OK, so it was with Aspades Ad, but he got action from 9d 9h on a K-T-rag flop somehow, all-in over the top of Matey's 3k bet.

"That Unabomber hoody guy just doubled up," was the introduction...

AND Martyn Cavanagh is out...

He raised to 1,200, Ash moved all in for 14k.  Pass
Next round, he raised again, to 1,200. Ash all in.  Pass.
Now, a few hands later, Martyn finds Js Jd and raises to 1,600  Ash moves all in.  A story from Iwan comes back to Martyn about how Ash did exactly the same thing to him, and eventually the third time he called and found Ash with Aces, busting himself.  Martyn called anyway, found the Ad Aspades and is now on the rail.  Mr. Hussain continues to yoyo his stack.  Still one of my picks to win (along with BA, and Praz, although I think JP might have met his end.....)

Paul Dobson has eliminated Dan Owston to become one of the chip leaders with 65,725.

------------------

Meanwhile, blondeite Chris Bruce has just received a massive double up off Rug (the youngster down to the felt as a result) after his Pocket Jacks stood up against Rug T-9 on a 9-3-4 rainbow Flop. Turn and River brought two Sixes.

Rugster has walked away from the field of play and his 200 chips have been anted away. He is therefore OUT.

--------------------

Jon 'Texas' Hewston is also OUT.

Three way pot (I believe there was a raise pre-flop).

Everyone checks the three diamon Flop.

Ross Boatman bets the Turn, Mateyboy folds, John moves all-in and Ross calls instantly.

Ross flopped a flush with Ad 7d whilst Jon had two black threes.

"He was making a move, he just did it at the wrong time," added Ross.

Stasia Xanthos        14,600
Ash Hussain            20,000
Tom Grundy           26,000
Praz Bansi               12,500
Joe Koumi              35,500
Chris Sokrati            58,000
Mark Herron            27,500
Brian Johnson          84,000
Marc Goodwin           6,000
Anthony Mackay       35,500
BA Kildalen              16,300
Jerome Bradpiece     38,500
Nick Hicks                11,200

-----------

James Browning moves all-in with Qh 6h against Qd 7d on a Qc Jd Ts Flop. Turn and River bring 8s and Jc though for a split pot and the Late Night Poker man survives.

A dejected Flushy is down to 15k after limp re-raising all-in with A-Q. Unfortunately he ran into Kings and 20k sailed away from his stack.

The most painful thing, however, was the Ace that hit the Flop, only for a King to arrive on the Turn.

Title: Re: Walsall GukPT: Day 1B - At A Glance
Post by: Djinn on February 17, 2007, 02:19:11 AM
Jerome Bradpiece eliminates two short stacks, going for it preflop with Qs Qc and finding himself in a commanding position against Ad Ks and Ac Kh... It only got better for him as the board came: rag rag rag Qh Qd (I wasn't paying any attention to the flop after the turn arrived)....

And BA Kildalen loses the lot in two goes, the first chunk hurting more, as it involved getting all in on a board of 3-6-6-T with T-T (comfortably ahead of the J-J against him) only for the river (so cruel) to bring that Jack.
Then it was a matter of re-raising 7k from the blinds with 6d 6s and finding Ahrt Qd willing to gamble.  He had to wait for the painful part of the deal this time too:
Flop:  Td 2h Js
Turn:   5h
River:  Ks

The last remaining representative of the 1% of the field which was made up of Norwegians bites the dust, and may be joining us in the press room tomorrow.  Or the cash game.

The players are currently on the last 15 minute of the day. When they return, they will complete the final level.

Eleventh hour (literally) double up for Flushy:

All in preflop with 8h 8c against Adam Stoneman's Aspades Ks (although when you look at what comes out, it would have happened anyway...)
Flop: Kc 8s 2s
Turn:  8d
River: irrelevant

So if he doesn't do anything rash, he's going to end the day (in 15 mins) with a little over average.

Also maintaining their focus in the late stages are Nick Hicks (over 25k) who was kickstarted on his chip accumulation by getting it in with A-K against A-8, and...I was just about to mention Praz but word has drifted to the Press Room that the previous GUKPT champion has just this minute gone out...

Adam Stoneman is OUT.

Raising pre-flop, Ash Hussain called from the button before encountering a raising war on the Js 8h 3s Flop.

Adam had Aspades Ts, Ash  Qc Qd

Turn = 6d

River = Jh

Flushy raised under the gun with Queens, Shaf called two seats down and both players checked the Ad Tc 6s Flop.

Flushy check-called 2.5k on the Aspades Turn, and then (I think) another bet on the 4s River, only to find that he'd lost to the perhaps suprising holding of Js 7s.

And in the last hand of the day, Ali Woods is eliminated (very short; forced to move with J-2, taken out by Q-4) which brings the total number of players progressing to Day Two from Day 1B to 61.

And Praz apparently made a largeish bluff with the rest of his chips, and got a brave call with second pair which removed him from the tournament.

That's about it; they're racing off the orange 25 chips, and then there'll be a redraw... we'll get the full list of counts whenever they appear.
