Title: New York Post by: smithy69 on February 17, 2007, 10:34:12 AM I have been looking into taking the missus away to New York in June for 4 days. I have been quoted £1200 for 4 days accomodation in a nice hotel, with a central location. Flying BA
Is June a good time to go, and is £1200 value for money in your opinions Title: Re: New York Post by: Claw75 on February 17, 2007, 11:06:17 AM looks like a good deal to me Smithy - I paid the best part of £1,000 for two of us to go for two nights in a dive of a hotel, and that was about 8 years ago.
June should be great weather wise. Have a great time. Title: Re: New York Post by: Longines on February 17, 2007, 12:01:51 PM New York in June is usually very pleasant.
£1200 sounds like a good deal. I usually book direct when going on business - I usually stay in the Park Central (www.parkcentralny.com) and it's very nice indeed - if you see pilots and flight attendants from multiple airlines arriving, you know it's going to be OK. Booking direct with the hotel, 3 nights in June currently costs £370. BA flights are £770 for two. Title: Re: New York Post by: Nem on February 17, 2007, 12:14:26 PM I was going to book in 01 and back then the flight prices doubled from June to September.
Is this still the case? Title: Re: New York Post by: robgibraltar on February 17, 2007, 04:12:03 PM I went straight after 09/11 (booked it 1 month before) and paid £190 ea for the flight and about £200 for the hotel pennsylvania - bang opposite madison sq. garden - which was listed as a 3* but that was a bit optimistic imo.....

It was listed as a 2* when I went and I thought that was optimistic! Title: Re: New York Post by: Longines on February 17, 2007, 07:42:52 PM There are a few barn hotels in Manhattan like that - the Arlington is another one that comes to mind where you wouldn't make your worst enemy stay.
Use tripadvisor.com to check them out before you commit. Title: Re: New York Post by: MadYank on February 17, 2007, 09:26:56 PM As a born and bred NYer, I ca say that June is about "the" perfect month to visit NYC. The weather is sunny without having reached the super heat/humidity of August.
I think 1200quid fo 2 peeps including flights is not bad tall assuming you have a decent hotel/locs. Enjoy. Title: Re: New York Post by: BigTomatoes on February 18, 2007, 09:14:08 AM i went to New York about 7/8 years ago when i was about 14/15 and i absolutely fell in love with the city.
it is top of my list as places ive visited ( Barcelona , Paris , Rotterdam , Walsall etc etc. ) we stayed at the Belvedere Hotel 1 block away from Times square , we went up on the roof of the WTC , up in the simulator at the top of The Empire State building , went out on the tourist boat round The Statue of Liberty , went to see a '' movie '' in an old style New York theatre , went for a meal in Chinatown , went shopping in all the BIG stores , the NBA store , the Nike store , Macy's etc etc it was absolutely amazing and i cant wait to go back as an adult , i would love to go over for the New Year celebrations thats top of my list now. brings back so many amazing memories when i think of that holiday, hope you and your lady have as great a time as i did smithy ps. we went in October and the weather was amazing then , first night we got there it was hammering down like id never seen before and we all thought '' just great , just our luck '' - the street lads were out selling umbrellas , the next day the sun was splitting the trees and they were out selling sunglasses !! even the weather amazed me. |
