Title: OT:BEWARE 0709 Mobile Phone SCAM Post by: BrumBilly on February 17, 2007, 04:03:26 PM 5mins ago my moblie rings and I don't recognise the number. I answer and a recorded message says they're trying to connect me. I'm thinking wtf, connect to what?
I hang up and google the number and it comes up with a scam that operates using mobile numbers beginning with: 0709 so I'm pretty sure I was right to end the call. I'll no doubt be charged a premium rate for it but others have been stung for A LOT! Title: Re: OT:BEWARE 0709 Mobile Phone SCAM Post by: BrumBilly on February 17, 2007, 04:15:16 PM I didn't ring the number. I answered an incoming call and was then being 'connected'.
So I'm warning against 'answering' the phone to these numbers! Title: Re: OT:BEWARE 0709 Mobile Phone SCAM Post by: Nem on February 17, 2007, 04:20:41 PM I didn't ring the number. Title: Re: OT:BEWARE 0709 Mobile Phone SCAM Post by: BrumBilly on February 17, 2007, 04:31:36 PM Yep mate I know but I was trying to clarify the situation as all the stuff I've just been reading refers to calling the number back whereas all I had done was hit the key on my mobile to answer the call. Atleast that's what I THOUGHT had happened.
As it turns out, I DID CALL THE NUMBER! Despite having the phone in my hand when it initially rang, by the time I'd hit the key to answer the 'one ringer' incoming call had ended so in effect I was now 'returning the call' while under the impression I was answering. That could turn out to be pretty expensive in some cases. Title: Re: OT:BEWARE 0709 Mobile Phone SCAM Post by: Nem on February 17, 2007, 04:35:53 PM Another 070 scam, this time sent to Tikay
