Blood Diamond is decent.

Lacking in norks though. A flick that long should really have a bit more to keep the depraved gentleman going.

Has anyone ever read a book or watched documentary concerning the modern day problems in Africa?

That sort of thing is all I read, I find fact so much stronger & more compelling than fiction.

I am reading "Surviving the word" right now, story of the FEPOW's who were trapped in Singapore, Thailand & Burma, imprisoned, & who built the railway, & bridge over the River Kwai. I challenge anyone to read that & not be moved to tears. Fictional films & TV, well, each to their own, but they are not my cup of tea.

if you like non fiction there  is a good war film made in 1977 that would take your intrest think it goes by the name of star wars

I've heard reviews about this film, frankly three hours of kate winslet and leonardo de crappio on a boat doesnt sound very entertaining to me, plus what does a blood diamond have to do with the titanic sinking?

Theres such a vast array of African literature and expositions of social commentary available that i think it sad political apathy and social indifference maintain a climate of reactionary ignorance over deprived Africa, A political state intermittently interrupted only by expedient hollywood sensationalism that does nothing other than impart erroneous facts and convey surreptitious political bias, it concerns me that people formulate opinions about African Government based predominantly on information derived from these films.

Ive read a couple of cracking books recently pertaining to Africa's struggle of theology and how religion in wartorn Africa blankets an inherent system of sequested corruption.(I think in was called religion and war in Africa)

Theres a book called "African political and social thought" and it expounds upon all aspects of African transition throughout the early 20th century and gives one an informed platform from which one can intelligently postulate over future African events, very insightful, worth a look.
