Title: OT Sky+ boxes
Post by: Claw75 on February 21, 2007, 11:16:25 PM
well mine has finally given up the ghost.  It's fine for watching TV on but unless the box is tuned into the channel you are recording, the playback is unwatchable (sound cuts out every few seconds, picture jumping).  As it's no longer under warranty I presume I'll have to just stump up for a new one.  Had a look on Sky website and it's £99 for a new box, which is fair enough, but £60 for installation.  I have to say I'm not too happy at the prospect of paying someone £60 to unplug my old box and plug in the new one.  Does anyone know of anywhere where I can buy a new box and just 'install' it myself?

Phone sky and explain your box is faulty and see what they say.

If that gets you nowhere tell them you'll cancel as you can't afford it. They'll put you through to cancellations and they'll normally try to keep you.

You can buy boxes on ebay and probably in a shop near you too.

the installation is quoted in the price for replacing existing equipment.

I've found a website that sells apparently better boxes (Pace) for £139 so might get one of those

Do this worst case scenario you pay £65 for a service call and they will swap the box out for a refurbished one with a 3 month guarantee.

Phone them up and say you want to cancel, because you are having nothing but problems with old sky + box, tell them you have decided to go with cable.

They gave me the choice of an engineer coming round for £60 and then repair costs on top, or a new box for £129 I told them to shove it, cable will be fine. ;shitfanhit;

Mine was replaced and installed for £49.00 with twice the memory. ;goodluck;
