Title: Using a Lap-Top Overseas
Post by: Pommy on September 27, 2005, 08:17:54 AM
Hiya guys,

I am going on holiday for a while next month (Australia and Malaysia) and need to take my lap-top with me to continue a league tourney (there will be two games held when I am away, and don't want to miss out on valuable points).

I have never played O/L poker on the lap-top outside of this country, and have not got the first clue about obtaining high speed internet connections overseas.

My ISP provides a dial-in service but I feel that this would be too slow.

Can anyone shed some light on how I go about connecting to the interweb thingy from my laptop in another country?  I know most hotels now days have an internet connection in the roooms, is this expensive to use? are their cheaper alternatives?

Thanks in advance guys and gals.  :)up

Steve

I don't know much about Oz, but I was in Malaysia for a few months earlier this year. The cost of internet access depends on where you stay. If it's a Western chain of hotels you'll probably end up paying close to normal hotel rates for Internet access (£10-15 per day). Some places though may do you a deal if you're there for a while. In Malaysia they also use the same power outlets as the UK,  so your 3 pin plugs will be fine without any adapters.

If you are in Kuala Lumpur I can highly recommend the Beach Club Cafe, not far from the Petronas Towers. In my opinion it's the greatest bar in the world, and being single was an advantage. It's still a good night out though if you take your gf / wife.
